Numbers!

  1. I used to feature Numbers as a post all the time, but I've fallen off in the last maybe two years.
  2. This is post number 3,041. That's a lot of drivel; thanks for sticking around.
  3. According to an app on my phone, I am currently 28 weeks and five days pregnant. That would be 201 days pregnant and in my third trimester. In common parlance, I'm in my seventh month and the home stretch.
  4. Buddy is 3 months away from turning five! I feel like a five year old is a big girl. She'll start kindergarten soon.
  5. I am still 37 but many of my pals are now 38, which means I will be soon, too.
  6. I am having my whole family over for Easter Feaster so that means we'll have eight adults and four kids over.
  7. I have had eight meetings so far this week. I have one more to go today and one tomorrow.
  8. And here's our TBT from four years ago:

Driving

I'm thinking I may need to rethink my route to work. I'm not sure.

In order to avoid the 110, and I'll do a lot to avoid the 110, I drive the streets to get to DTLA from the 105. (HA! My usage of freeways is to amuse the east coasters who are reading. But it really is also how we talk here.)

Anyways, so you know about the homeless encampment I talked about last Friday, steps away from the billion dollar institution in which I work.

Then the day before yesterday I saw a young, latino man get pulled over and put into handcuffs. He was probably stoned. Whatever. It stunk.

Then this morning I saw a man toss around his lady friend while lots of people looked on at the bus stop.

Not to mention the wild dogs roaming.

Anyways, just thinking about it.

Business Trip

Sometimes, your husband goes on a business trip to San Antonio and then you facetime with him to say goodnight and he is wearing a blinkie st paddy's day necklace and looks a little tipsy.

Then you ask him what he's up to and he says taking Star Wars pictures and you just let that one go.

Until your text message pings and this is what you get.

Here's me and my sisters five years ago today. Funny right? Cuz same same belly.

What a nice weekend it was!

I don't have any pictures though.

haiku friday

homeless encampment.

two miles from work
and three or four blocks from campus.
peeps living outside.

i would think we could
find them supportive housing
because we are rich.

preschool day!

the preschool presentation went great. my power point was well received. ha! just kidding, i didn't do a powerpoint. it was cute though and they liked it and i loved doing it.

to start, i taught them how to say namaste. that was freaking adorable.

i passed around two spices, cardamom and garam masala and they all freaked out. haha. not fans of the smells.

i asked them who had heard of christopher columbus. (only a few had) and i said that a long, long time ago people didn't have refrigerators. and one of the kids said they didn't have cars either. i said you're right. anyways, without refrigerators people's food got kind of yucky and didn't taste very good. so, spices were a huge deal back then. so, that's what christopher columbus was doing - looking for spices. and he landed in america. and he thought he was in india. and he thought the native americans were indians, so thats how come native americans are called indians.

minds were blown, people. blown.

i showed them a bunch of saris and wrapped them around a bunch of the kids.

i brought coloring pages and they liked them a lot i could tell.

this morning before school, heated up a bunch of naan from trader joes (the samosas were way too spicy for kids!) and passed them out. almost everyone had a piece and most of them loved it!

what else?

i put buddy's little outfit her grandpa got her from india on her and the girls just about fell over from the awesomeness.

i told babe i might become a preschool teacher. except they make a fraction of what i make for working about ten times as hard as i do.

so! that's how you teach preschoolers about india.

the end.

Preschool

You guys!

I am so excited because tomorrow I am going to Buddy's class to teach her and her little school friends about India.

So, obviously I am obsessively lesson planning!

Here's what I think I am going to do. Are you ready? Any comments are welcome. Unless you think my ideas are stupid in which case I don't want you to comment because I am sensitive.

I thought I would try to hit all the five senses.

Here goes:

  • Hearing: Talk about India for a minute. Say Buddy's Granpa (and my dad) is from India.
  • Sight: Show a few pictures of India, like the taj majal. Bring some coloring pages for them to color in.
  • Touch: Bring a few saris in and let the peeps try them on and play with the fabric.
  • Smell: Bring spices in and let them smell them. I'm not sure about the best way to do this because I don't want anyone to accidentally drop cumin on the floor. Ha!
  • Taste: Bring in some Trader Joe's Samosas. I hope they aren't too spicy.

I'm so excited.

trimester number three

There it is, folks. That's the bump.

26 weeks and some change, or seven months if weeks don't make sense to you. And there is no reason they should.

The third trimester! The home stretch!

the good, the bad, the ugly

The Good

  • Not too hot, not too chilly - the weather has to be at the top of the list. It's so easy to be happy when it's gorgeous outside.
  • Buddy's new commitment to accessorizing. I'll post a picture momentarily.
  • These new pregnant lady pants I ordered online that are cute and comfortable.
  • My breakfast of strawberries and yogurt.
  • The new season of Survivor.
The Bad

Nah. I'm just gonna leave it at the good for today.

honing my craft, yo! i'm going to set up a booth at the farmers market. you'll see.

I got Buddy Tom's and they are so cute I'm going to eat them.

The pinata at the party on Saturday was clearly from my childhood in Oxnard in the 80s.

Buddy did great!
