It's all happening over here.

The nanny started Monday and this week I have been preparing myself to re enter the workforce. You know, get out of elastic waist bands.

I really like her so far, the nanny. She and Buddy get along great and Joze has been taking bottles like a champ. I have only cried once! One time.

I am getting some make up today.  And groceries.

The thing is, people, my job is all about polish. You gotta look profesh.

Anywho, that's where we are. Buddy is doing great in kindergarten and Joze is getting used to the nanny.

And life it just keeps on moving!

Weekend pics

On Friday we went to the Californa Science Center. It was air conditioned, free and nearly empty.

We had a good time.

We took it easy this weekend.
Put Josie in a stupid outfit and she cried about it.

Watched Cal win. Again.

Played outside.

Haiku Friday

It's finally fall.
It's still one hundred degrees.
Sooooo over it, bro.

Buddy's school is closed.
First of many of these days.
Glad i am still home!

We baked scones, set up
A trainset, ate breakfast and
Now we'll go somewhere.

In honor of the Pope's visit I thought I would throw it back to when JP2 was here and I took a wee pilgrimage with a bunch of peeps to see the pope. We walked like 20 miles. I was likely the only one wearing docs.

Haiku Friday

First night with both kids
With babe gone the whole night long.
I did pretty well.

They both were up late,
But whatever. We slept in
Til seven fifteen.

Joze is getting big
And Buddy is practically
A tiny grown up.

Monday! I think Josie has the same eyebrows and shape eyes as my mom. Little native american baby.

Someone put on Facebook the other day: what's the best and worst thing about having kids?

What is this? Family Feud? Survey says - adorable family photos for the best and interrupted sleep for the worst.

Obviously the best thing about having children is the presents. Here, I thought we were done with that part and lo! I got a box of diapers left on my doorstep (thanks, paumbergs!) and this cute card (thanks mattandsam):

And the worst is going back to work:

Haiku Friday

I was the only one
Going into the City
From Oakland on Bart.

Except this one guy.
He said what happened? I said
A plane attacked us.

He said, then why are
We here? I didn't know what
Else to do. I went.

My Grama passed away 2 years ago today. I think about her often.

It was almost exactly five years ago that I took an eleven week old Sash on her first plane ride to meet Grama. I like these pics because I look very proud of Sasha, but I am also very proud of my beautiful Granny.

Job Stuff

I've been at my job for 3 years! My work anniversary is Sept. 6, so 3 years and 3 days. This job is so different from the job I did for nearly ten years at NYU that I am constantly rethinking it. Usually every six months or so, and that tends to fall in September and February. Why? I don't know.

I gave myself a reprieve from re-thinking my career because I'm on maternity leave and often sleep deprived.

But, despite the reprieve it seems my cycle is just that - September and February I start thinking about my job.

Last night when I was falling asleep I was trying to think about what else I would want to do. I don't mind fundraising and I really love certain aspects of my job, but I don't feel so settled in my job. I often feel like I'm trying to prove something to folks when I talk to them about what I do. Like that my job is not"just fundraising." (It's not, by the way, I do a ton of program development and alumni relations.) (See?) As if fundraising isn't good enough?

Anyways, I was thinking what other job would be cool?

And I thought what about a high school teacher? I could teach communications, or non profit management or fundraising even. Then I could have summers off and be like the cool teacher where everyone stands on their desks to see things from a different perspective.

I mean I did originally want to be a professor, remember? And I did teach at NYU for a couple semesters, right?

Stand and Deliver, man.

What do you think? I'm probably not cut out for it, huh?

Three months today!

Little Josie is 3 months old today! I'll get you a photo later. Obviously.

I was just reading about when Buddy turned 3 months old. I learned a few things. I went back to work when Buddy was 12 weeks old. I always thought it was 13 weeks. Anyways I had a terrible time of it and it looks like I spent a lot of time crying. I do remember that.

So, Josie is three months old. She coos a lot and smiles all the time. I think she's learning to laugh? It's a funny noise. She eats like a champ and will take a bottle now from her dad and her auntie. She is a tall girl. She has blue/grey eyeballs. Her hair is sorta brown and seems straight but its still a pixie cut. She catnaps in the morning then takes a solid afternoon nap. She goes to sleep around 8pm and sleeps until 2am, sometimes 4am. One time 6. Ha! It sure is nice to have a baby.

I owe you weekend pics!

Here is Josie's 3 month pic, followed by Buddy's.

Haiku Friday

Setting an alarm
For the first time since Josie.
Sash and I be like...

Kindergarten. Man.
You got to be right on time.
Running to the gate.

Sash seems to like it
Not enough playing, she says.
All downhill from here.

Lots of peeps are out on the playa this week for Burning Man!
It's been 12 years since I have been, and that was my honeymoon where Mike and I got married again!

Tuesday Updates

  • Today was the first real day of kindergarten. Dropped off Buddy and there she went! I didn't cry. Yesterday there was a woman choking back tears and that almost set me off but today was just very sweet. I really cried my face off when I dropped Buddy at pre-k a year ago. She was in a classroom, with a lot of kids. I think that was the big break for me. But, I did TRIP OUT when I got home because I realized for the first time, ever, I couldn't just call and see how she was doing. I've always called the first couple of days after drop off to check in. With school-school you can't do that. I'd like to figure out a way to help out in the classroom at least a couple of times a month. Let's see what the Bossman says about that!
  • So, September, huh? I've got the whole month ahead of me and it is my last month before I return to work. This pains me, so we won't talk about it. We can talk about the fact that I love September because it is going to be a relatively chill month chalk full of routine. Kindergarten and "after care" for Buddy, me and Joze spending our last month together doing whatever we need to do. No more trips! They were fun, but it's good to be home.
  • I hired a nanny. She's nice. Whatever. She has been a nanny for like 30 years. She knows everyone in my neighborhood. It's fine. She's going to drop Buddy off for me at kindergarten (I'm pretty sure Buddy is going to be a latebird, meaning she'll start school around 10am) and she'll pick her up and take her to the park, or the library, or home. She'll take care of Joze and feed her and change her and hug her. I'm going to try to take my time easing into things for the fall. We have holidays. It's fine. What's my alternative? I'm not cut out to be a stay at home mom, and I do like to work. In a perfect world, I'd have six months or a year of leave or I'd work part time. Eventually, perhaps. Right now I have September and I'm easing into the Fall. Right? Right.
  • Wow, that got heavy. I still owe you a Portland update. I also want to tell you about all the breweries we've been visiting.
  • I'll update you at 3 months (Josie is 12 weeks and a day today) as to how she is doing. Spoiler alert: she's doing great! She is so cute, eats like a champ, naps frequently, smiles all the time, poops regularly, takes a bottle once a day, and her eyes are still blue. She doesn't sleep through the night but she does sleeps for long stretches at a time. She's a little baby and I want to eat her thighs.
  • Newsy, huh? Have a good day peeps.
