Happy Third Birthday Haiku Friday

Happy birthday, Sash!
Little buddy, three years old.
Such a big girl now.

Particularly
when she is crowding my bed
during the night time.

"I'm just a baby!"
That's what she always tells me.
Sounds okay to me.

Song

I listen to this song fourteen times a day, so you might as well, too.

Buddy can sing it, by the way.

Score one for the good guys - DOMA unconstitutional

From Justice Kennedy's opinion on DOMA:

DOMA’s principal effect is to identify a subset of state- sanctioned marriages and make them unequal. The principal purpose is to impose inequality, not for other reasons like governmental efficiency. Responsibilities, as well as rights, enhance the dignity and integrity of the person. And DOMA contrives to deprive some couples married under the laws of their State, but not other couples, of both rights and responsibilities...
By this dynamic DOMA under- mines both the public and private significance of state-sanctioned same-sex marriages; for it tells those couples and all the world, that their otherwise valid marriages are unworthy of federal recognition...
Under DOMA, same-sex married couples have their lives burdened, by reason of government decree, in visible and public ways. By its great reach, DOMA touches many aspects of married and family life, from the mundane to the profound....

DOMA singles out a class of persons deemed by a State entitled to recognition and protection to enhance their own liberty. It imposes a disability on the class by refusing to acknowledge a status the State finds to be dignified and proper. DOMA instructs all federal officials, and indeed all persons with whom same-sex couples interact, including their own children, that their marriage is less worthy than the marriages of others. The federal statute is invalid, for no legitimate purpose overcomes the purpose and effect to disparage and to injure those whom the State, by its marriage laws, sought to protect in personhood and dignity.

A few weekend pics

We had a great weekend, and very chill. Babe did a lot of yard work. I did a lot of cleaning and sorting. And playing, of course. We watched a movie. My parents came for a visit. Top notch.

Is that two year old, almost three, wearing lipsticks? You bet she is. Hahahahaha.
Lipsticks, plural.

Nope. Nothing I love more than pics of my dad and my baby. Nothing.

Here, they are planting some flowers that they grew from seeds a few weeks ago.

Haiku Friday

One week from today
Is my princess's birthday.
She'll be three years old.

She's the best person
I ever met. Sometimes I
can't breathe for the love.

I guess every mom
feels this way. Little buddy.
Getting so big fast.

On the art of being 2 (almost 3)

Thanks to JRL for the photos.

Whoa

Sorry for the blog silence people. This has been quite the week. Buddy caught a fever on Tuesday and so we had to do some serious juggling to make sure she was well taken care of at home. And she was.

It also *seems* like we might be buying a house? So, that fell into our lap and has left us completely scrambling.

And it does seem like work is only getting busier, not at all feeling like summer relaxation.

Of course, we're also having a big party in a week and a few days and my sweet girl has a birthday coming up.

Overall though, all of the above, except the fever, is incredibly good news. And the fever actually gave me an opportunity to take a nap with Buddy yesterday so how on earth could that be bad?

It couldn't be.

Amazing Weekend! Few Pictures.

We saw Little Luz get baptised on Saturday. That's what buddy calls her. Luz! Heeee. Anyways, the church had an awesome little garden on the side and so we took the opportunity to do a buddy photo shoot.

That same day, we went to see the Yankees lose their panties to the Angels. Unfortunate but true. Here's a pic of Ichiro, though.

And it was father's day! And we celebrated. But, I don't have proof of that with pictures.

Haiku Friday

Dad's day this weekend.
Happy father's day to dad.
I sure do love him.

When my dad smiles,
everybody else does, too.
His whole face crinkles.

My dad is quiet.
Unless he's talking about
hops. Just ask husband.

Question from a reader

"What's the coolest "perk" you've had at a job?"

Thank you for asking, Crust!

The coolest perk by far that I've ever had was going to Hawaii for work. My first job was working public relations in San Francisco in the dotcom era. Many of our clients were real, real dumb dot coms, but we also did pr for the tourism industry. One of our clients was the Hotel Hana Maui (which now has a new name, apparently, the Travaasa), but you can still see pictures here.

I got to stay for three or four days? I don't remember. I do remember that I had a jacuzzi on my deck and I took a two seater plane from Honolulu to Hana, Maui that was totally scary and ridiculously beautiful.

So, yeah. Free, all expense paid trip to paradise? Best perk.

So far.

Last night

Last night, I had a quintessential LA evening.

I drove to Hollywood to see a friend's screening of his film. In true LA form, traffic driving to Hollywood was unbelievable. I mean I literally sat for 10 minutes and didn't go anywhere. I cut out and took side streets, where my poor darling Subaru was beaten up by a crazy homeless dude.

When I got near Hollywood and Highland, I started to look for parking. I drove into a valet lot and the dude asked me where I was going. I told him which theater I was going to, he turned his nose up and said they didn't have any parking available for that theater. Bah! So, I found a five dollar lot and parked the 'ru. While putting on my new wedge sandals, a little mini cooper honked her tiny horn so I could get out of her way so she could pull in. Sigh.

I walked the three blocks to the dive bar I was meeting my girlfriend at for a beer prior to the show. Walking along Hollywood Blvd is genius and disgusting. Walking over all the stars with names on them, tourists EVERYWHERE and people trying to holler at you. Just like Times Square.

We met at a great dive bar that had booths open and good beer on tap. (As well as bad beer.)

We strolled over to catch the screening and the film...was short. Great to see my friend, though.

Then we had a $7.00 hot dog and I drove home.

A perfectly LA evening.

babies babies babies!!

Two of my pals who live in Brooklyn had babies today!!! What a wonderful day!

I wish we could go meet the babies. Maybe we will! In the fall! Why not?

We're thinking of taking a trip to Seattle in August then driving up to Vancouver. Did I already tell you that?

Sorry I'm so lame on my blog. I should really dig up a Blog Every Day in June exercise to help me through the rough patches.

Road Trip Weekend Pictures

We drove up to Fresno on Friday to see Dani graduate high school. We got there a little late, and squeezed in with Gabs and her whole family. We were a tad alarmed that it would take a long time for the names of the 560 graduates to be called, but it was a breeze and flew by in less than an hour. I can't believe Dani's all grown up! She looks beautiful and grown up.

It's possible that it flew by because these two little boys are who I spent the hour staring at. Gabby's nephews are unbelievably cute.

Then this happened.

And this.

And this.

We headed out after a nice pizza party and noticed it sure gets hot in Fresno!

Here's the view from the Ly's deck. Nice, huh?

And here's the two girls playing.

And drinking juice.

And playing.

And sharing.

Thank you, Lys!!!

Princess did so good the whole way. She slept on the way home after we put on her PeeJays. We got home in five hours from the  bay. Wow!

I wish we had one more day!!

Just Breathe

Some lyrics from one of my favorite songs, Just Breathe by Pearl Jam. Go ahead and listen to it here.

Last night, I was thinking about the part that I have bolded below.

Just Breathe Lyrics PJ

Yes I understand that every life must end,
As we sit alone, I know someday we must go,
I’m a lucky man to count on both hands
The ones I love

Some folks just have one,
Others they got none,

Stay with me
Let’s just breathe.

Practiced are my sins,
Never gonna let me win,
Under everything, just another human being,
Yeh, I don’t wanna hurt, there’s so much in this world
To make me bleed.

Stay with me
You’re all I see.

Did I say that I need you?
Did I say that I want you?
Oh, if I didn’t now I’m a fool you see
No one knows this more than me
As I come clean

I wonder everyday
as I look upon your face,
Everything you gave
And nothing you would take,
Nothing you would take
Everything you gave

Did I say that I need you?
Oh, Did I say that I want you?
Oh, if I didn’t now I’m a fool you see

No one know this more than me.
As I come clean

Nothing you would take everything you gave.
Hold me till I die
Meet you on the other side

Junio

Today being Tuesday, the fourth day of June seems like a nice time to look at the coming month and talk about some hopes, dreams, and aspirations.

It's an exciting time in the life of me. We're going to see the Yankees play next weekend. Nope. The weekend after.

Next weekend, we're going to go up to Fresno to see my oldest pal's baby graduate from high school. You heard me.

The end of the month will be Buddy's third birthday and the much anticipated return of the taco guy.

I thought work might slow down some, but that doesn't appear to be happening. That's okay though. I'm going to take some three day weekends here and there.

Scant Weekend Pics

We're getting buddy a new bed and thought about forgoing the "toddler bed" and just getting her a regular twin bed. But, this is how she sleeps so probably best to have a low bed with a few bars on the side.

(With apologies to Buddy when she is 14.)
