End of May Haiku Friday

Hoorah! Well done, you have made it through the month. How was it for you? Did you learn anything? What did you enjoy? What did you dislike? Sum it all up!

I learned not that much.
I already knew I was
a total hater.

Maybe I should make
my own blog each day in June.
With better questions.

I probably won't.
I don't care enough, really.
You inspire me.

Blog Every Day in May - Catching Up

Let's be honest, I suck at this blog every day in May thing. But, I'm going to make up for it.

Just you watch.

Who inspires you? Are they close to you? Somebody famous? Or even somebody infamous?
You do. Because you are beautiful. And funny and smart.

What is the worst advice you have ever received?
Follow your dreams. Wait, what? What kind of a question is this?

What are you good at that nobody knows about? Tell us all about it.
Singing. My voice is magnificent.

Tell us about what you do every morning to help you get ready for the day ahead.
Blah blah blah. Now I know why I'm not participating in this thing. Because it sucks. What do you care about my drinking coffee and taking a shower?

Dinner party time - Who would you invite? What music is playing? What are you eating? Is there entertainment? Let your imagination go wild!
 Seriously?

What are your top 5 favourite albums and why?
No.

Tell us about the best compliment you have ever received.

Sigh.

Wknd Pics - one day late but worth it.

This past weekend was definitely brought to you by the "selfie." Buddy decided to put her footie in this one, last minute.

We took a walk to Tanners.

This is what buddy thought of her nap on Monday.

She pushed dada on the swing at the nieghbor's bbq.

We walked to Tanners.

She fed these crazy fish.

She grinned.

She drove a car.

We played with street art.

Fed the fish, yes. we're out of order.

Lounged.

Me and Chach.

Selfie.

Funny selfie with buddy on my shoulders.

Family Selfie.

Wknd Pics - just a taste

I'm running a bit behind today but don't want to leave you high and dry.

Here are just three pics of Buddy playing bar games at a local brewery. Oh, what we do with our 2 year old.

Haven't been to the Golden Road Brewery, but love child friendly places that brew their own delicious beer? You are missing out!!!

Haiku Friday: What's in your fridge

Always in my fridge:
half and half, babybell cheese,
coffee from starbucks.

Usually in there:
hard-boiled, free-range, brown eggs,
fresh fruit in a bowl.

Mainstays on the side:
many types of vinegar,
lots of condiments.

Velvet Hat

Following my blog post yesterday, my parents kindly scanned this photo of me in my velvet hat. For all the world to see. Ha! Thanks ma and dad.

13 year old you

If you could talk to your 13 year old self, what would you say?

IT GETS BETTER.

Mostly, though, I wouldn't say too much because I probably wouldn't believe myself anyways. I made some pretty dumb choices when I was a teenager, but also some really good ones, and I wouldn't be the person I was today without going through all that. So, I think I'd just leave myself alone. Maybe try to talk 13 year old me out of some of those velvet hats?

Dream Job

If you could do anything in the world to make a living what would it be?

Good question - and I'm not too sure of the answer. I like my job fine and have liked my previous jobs just fine.

I suppose I like to help people and learn new things.

I would like to work more like three days a week, have another day or two with buddy and one day on my own to do the things I like to do - reading/writing/cooking/cleaning/walking.

Other ideas -

A professional traveler maybe?

A Yankee?

A personal trainer at the gym?

A gardener!

A cook/chef/bartender.

Weekend pics - not this weekend!

I left my phone in my bag apparently, as I was enjoying the heck out of this weekend. So, I'll take a page from the book of BFF and hit up some of the topics I missed when I wasn't really paying attention to "blog every day in May"

Sunday the 5th "Fit and Healthy"
What do you do to stay fit or be a healthy individual? Share any useful tips and advice. Or tell us about your plans to get healthier.
I drink as much water as is humanly possible, try to eat vegetables with every meal, and try to curtail the beer drinking.

Wednesday the 8th "First Job"Tell us about your first job. Did you love it or was it horrendous?
My first job was a month long stint at Kinny's shoe store in the mall. But, that didn't work out so I worked at Pizza Hut for my senior year. It was all right. The characters there were definitely shady. But free pizza! Who can complain?!

Thursday the 9th "Favorite Social Media Channel"
Are you a Twitter-lover? Or maybe you can't get enough of Pinterest? Do you need to share every meal on Instagram? Do you waste away the hours watching Youtube? Or Facebook is your comfort zone? Tell us about your favourite social media channel and why.
I like instagram, love to hate facebook, and can't really figure out twitter. My favorite social media is probably amazon, reading book reviews and deciding what to download next.

Saturday the 11th "Book Love"
Tell us about your favourite book. Or maybe give us a top 5 of the books that changed your life.

I'm gonna go with life changing because favorite is whatever I'm reading at the moment, really.
  1. East of Eden - I love this book and it loves California. It's nearly a perfect book.
  2. Song of Solomon - again, nearly a perfect book. Made me learn a lot about families, history, and life.
  3. Jeanette Winterson's The Passion was a life changer. It's because it's a crazy unbelievably awesome book. It's written like a poem, spare with words, rich with description. You get smarter when you read it. Promise.
  4. That book I borrowed from Cindy about the personal journey, that was a life changer because it reminded me to constantly rethink what I'm doing and where I'm headed - challenging me to push myself to keep working on my own personal journey. The Alchemist!
  5. The fourth book in the vampire Anne Rice books was a life changer. Too long of a story to share here, but let's just say I never was the same after reading it.

Sunday the 12th "Collecting"
Are you a collector? Maybe a bit of a hoarder? Tell us about something you like to collect. Or if you favour minimalism, perhaps tell us why?
I collect Pearl Jam CDs because I love them.

Monday the 13th "Go Green"
Talk about being green, eco-friendly or ethical. What do you do to make a difference?
I took the train to work today! Take that carbon footprint!

Pampering: What is your ideal way to pamper yourself and relax?

Well, this blog question feels a little personal for my tastes! Nosy, nosy!

Sort of like: describe your ideal date or something.

I guess, for me, I felt pretty relaxed on Mother's Day - poolside with a beer and lots of people happily playing with my Buddy.

As for pampering - get my hair done by my hairdresser in NYC. That's easy.

Today's topic: Life's a Lesson

I read the other day, if you tell your kid something 1,000 times and they still don't get it, they're not the one who has trouble learning. I thought that was a good life lesson.

Every day with Buddy I learn something. Lots of times, it's as simple as I can't believe a  person so little could bring so much joy into the world. Sometimes I learn a new word. The other day, on our Trader Joe's we rode the alligator down to the first floor. She teaches me how to fly like a bird.

Not everything I learn every day is so good. I'm learning a lot in listening to Barbara Kingsolver's Animal, Vegetable, Miracle and much of it has left me reeling.

I also learn often how poorly people drive.

Food Glorious Food

That's the topic of the day. So far, I've been using this "Blog Once A Day in May" to my advantage by checking for topics during the week so I am prompted to write about something without having to do any thinking. So, that's working well for me.

What an apt topic, too!

I've been thinking a lot about food - where it comes from, what it's doing for me and my family as well as the environment. So much so that Babe has asked me to return the book "Animal Vegetable Miracle" to the library and stick to my cheesy romance novels.

No way, Jose!

I've been trying to incorporate more veggies in my life - a no brainer, I know, but something I fell off from sometime over the last six months.

My Tuesday tradition (starting last week, mind you) is to take Buddy to the Farmer's Market and buy veggies and fruit for the week. We also joined a CSA and will do our first pick up on Sunday.

We're also doing "Meatless Monday" by skipping the meat on Monday nights. Word!

Today's topic: Pets

I just looked for a while for a pic of my dog when I was growing up, Candy. She was a half Labrador  part Akita and she was awesome. Such a nice girl. I took her to dog training class. Incidentally, I met BFF and Crust there, even before we all went to school together. (Speaking of Crusty, I unintentionally left her off of my top five blog list - she definitely is one of my top five! Sorry, Crust.)

We don't have a pet now and I'm super duper glad. I think dogs are cute but I don't want one. I think the walking would be nice, but I think I can also just take a walk.

Besides Buddy is terrified of them.

Blog Once a Day in May - Bank Holiday Fun

Because I have no idea what "Bank Holiday" means I will use this opportunity to wish my sister JOY a very happy beeday. Any many happy returns of the day.

XXO

Wknd Picture

You'd never know from this one lonely picture what a busy and fun weekend we had. We had Sammy Oi over on Friday, the lenscirrun over on Saturday, BON y JASON visiting from NYC, Cin's beeday party in the LBC, farmers market and supper club.

But, I guess I was too busy having fun to snap any photos. I'll see if I can make up for it later in the week.

Haiku Friday - A Day in the Life

So far, I love hoy.
I woke up, got out of bed,
dragged a comb across...

Oh, wait a second.
That's not me, that's the Beatles.
I did wake up, though!

And traffic was light.
And my iced coffee is good.
I can catch up now.

Spring is here!

The theme for today in blog every day in May is Spring is here!
***
Spring has sprung in California - weeks ago in fact. But, I'll tell you what Spring means here at my little house.

The tomato plants are starting to grow and grow and grow. The bougainvillea are going wild! The azalea we planted last year is bright pink. And I'm thinking about joining a CSA. If my pal Chutney does all the work and signs me up.

Spring also means the school year will be winding down soon and I hope this affords me just a tiny bit of breathing room.

Oh and baseball is in full swing. I've already watched more Yankee games this year than I think I did all of last year. Get it!

Blog a day in May

  1. I've been so busy that I decided to take some help for my blog this month.
  2. So I decided to join a group called "Blog Every Day in May".
  3. I have literally no idea who these people are, or what they are all about.
  4. This came up when I did a google search for "Blog Every Day in May" and I joined.
  5. Now, I have things I need to do every day in May. Today's instructions were: 5 Lines.
