Buddy Update

Hey guys!

I'll toss out some weekend pics soon. Buddy is doing so much better you guys. The doc said she can go back to school manana. I am of course freaking out.

He won't call it asthma, it could be an isolated incident. But, we'll have to wait and see how she does over the impending cold season. So, that's what I know.

Pics to come.

Haiku Friday

My worst week ever.
Absolutely horrible.
Buddy got so sick.

First urgent care, then
ER, then the hospital.
A hard time breathing.

My poor sweet buddy.
Fighting so hard to get air.
They took good care though.

Doctors and nurses.
She is at home now with me.
She is breathing good.

Like baby asthma.
She caught a really bad cold.
Hope its only once.

Misc. Items

  • Here's a link to 30 pieces of wisdom you can find in Haruki Murakami's books. You will enjoy!
  • It's the beginning of cold season. I can tell because Buddy is home from school today and I can hear one of my coworkers hacking up a lung. Awesome.
  • Hosting a wee baby shower for a friend on Sunday. What's your favorite shower game? There are only about 8 women, so nothing too elaborate. Nothing with measuring either, please!
  • Hosting a national conference on Veterans' Affairs in the first week of October. Have 300 attendees so far and the mayor will give an address.
  • Had lunch with Nate Silver on Friday. Ya' heard.

Haiku Friday

Interesting week.
The school year started again,
so lots of events.

Still getting used to
my new house, which I adore.
Not quite a month, yet.

Still thinking of Gran.
But work is so busy, I
think of mostly work.

Trip to Wisconsin

Some photos from the last several days:

My gran was a poet. They had printed and framed some of her poems at the services.

Pic of my Ma and her cousins and siblings in front of my Granny's old house.

Pic of a little building out behind my Gran's old house.

Standing around talking in my Gran's old backyard.

Me and my funny 2nd cousin.

Covered bridge park in Wisconsin.

Last covered bridge in Wisconsin

The whole inside of the bridge was covered with stuff like this. I hope Greg and Margie are still together.

Chicago deep-dish pizza.

I'm Back

I made it back, people. And I'm ready to update you with photos of family I haven't seen in ages, and covered bridges in Wisconsin. I owe you a haiku, too, so be looking for that. It was sad and it was a super arduous journey. But, I did it with my sisters and we had a lot of laughs. We sent Granny off with style and celebrated her life. Lots of people loved her and were there to see her off. Just wanted you to know I am here and I'll be giving you updates soon.

My Grama passed away yesterday. She was 97 years old. Born in April 1916.

I'm very lucky that I saw her a lot when I was a kid, but I am glad I was able to see her often I lived in New York City. One of the benefits of being so close! Here are some nice pics.

Grama meeting Buddy when she was about 2 months old.

Grama and Buddy when Buddy was more like 9 months old.

One of my favorite pics.

Wonder woman

Been watching a lot of wonder woman lately. It's Buddy's new name. She likes to be called Baby Wonder Woman, in fact. She tells me every day.

Turns out, wonder woman is a lot like the women in my family!
Amazon-woman who are smart, sexy, ass kickers.

I spent most of my weekend driving. Ha! I drove Ang to her Boob Walk in Santa Barbara on Saturday morning. Then drove back to LA, stopping in Oxnard to see BFF on the way. Here's Ang! Saturday evening we had our second set of visitors to our new place. They liked it!!

Sunday around noon, me and Buddy were in Carpinteria. We got this awesome seat right open to the walkers going by. So we cheered for them and I drank this delicous IPA.

This is my little buddy. She's so good.

Buddy being emo after Ang got through the finish line!

I did the last time.

I like it you guys.
It's busy and smart and fun.
A lot like you all.

Scenes from the past week and a half, or so

These are completely out of order, but who cares.
Here's some of the stuff I've been doing.

Scooter was in town and we took Buddy to lunch. She's studying the menu here.

Auntie was in town and took buddy swinging. This picture is 100% perfect.

I wish I could crop this, but whatever. Here's Buddy jumping on the new bed in my new room.

Here's Scooter and Buddy in the backyard. My backyard already looks totally different than this, because that wheelbarow has been put away, the tree has been trimmed, and those big ole bushes on the right hve been removed.

Here's Buddy playing in Manhattan Beach. (Bro.)

Babe and I did go on one date and that was to this RAD restaurant called Eureka Tasting Room at the Hawthorne Airport. If you come to visit me, I will take you there. Cross my heart. You can watch the planes land. It is sick.

Get a load of this! There are food trucks down the block from me on the last Friday of every month. So, we went to there. Buddy is being a flamingo in front of the Korean food truck. It was good, dude.

New library, also within walking distance of my pad.

Besties at supper club.

Misc. Items

  • It took my an hour and five minutes to get to work today. I kid you not. I'm going to have to figure out this commute thing.
  • My identity got stolen and someone stole a grand out of my bank account from a freaking 7-11 atm yesterday. How the heck do you even do that?
  • Two gigantic events at work in the next five weeks. Then, I go on vacay. Just kidding.
  • Buddy went all day at daycare in her chones - no accidents! She was at home with me for 10 days so we were totally practicing.

Tuesday, September 03, 2013

I am back after a brief hiatus. A glorious, restful vacation where I spent much time away from computers, lounging in the sun and drinking umbrella drinks.

Haha, just kidding.

I mostly worked several hours a day, unpacked boxes and played with the buddy.

But I'm back now at work, and we're all moved in to our new house, and buddy is happy as a clam to be back at escuela.

I owe you:

  • Weekend pics
  • Pics during the week of buddy playing
  • New house pics
You'll get your pictures. Probably tomorrow.
