Wknd Pics

My weekend started early because I took Friday off because I wanted to. Here's me and Buddy playing hide and seek at an outdoor mall near my house.

Doesn't husband look nice in this picture?

This one is pretty good, too.

On Saturday, we went to this totally weird museum of Jurassic technology on Venice. We went with a bunch of friends but especially with VINCENT. It was full of strange oddities. Anyways, no pictures where allowed so you'll just have to go. I did sneak this one on the roof though:

Then we went to lunch, where Ang took buddy to see the dancing lion by request.

We sort of randomly went out through the good grace of my sister and ended up watching karaoke at a bar. It was so much I'm so glad we went.

Important picture of me and VINCENT.

Here's all of us enjoying some tunes. In the middle there is VINCENT.

Buddy looks so Santa Monica here I had to take her picture. Because Santa Monica is full of homeless people and rich people who look like homeless people.

Haiku Friday

Taking care of stuff
of stuff today and also chilling.
A vacation day.

Just gave our notice.
I love this little blue house.
And enormous yard.

A homeowner, though.
It's the right time for that change.
Putting down some roots.

Things that make me laugh

I think this will shape up to be a regular feature on the old Coodence's World, but we'll see.

Here are a few things that have made me laugh lately:

1) I am doing some research for a gift for a donor who took us on their boat (yup). And one of the reviews of a product says: "I would recommend this gift to anyone who loves anything."

Not sure if this a good review? Does it  means if you have no taste get this! Or, if you're surprisingly easy-going this is the basket for you.

2) Funny conversation between me and my boss:

My Boss: Oh! I really like your bracelet!
Me: Thanks! My sister...
My Boss: Made it?!
Me: No, she accidentally left it at my house.

3) Funny conversation between me and Babe (in the car, flipping stations):

Me: UGH Red Hot Chili Peppers is always on the radio
Babe: Since when do you hate the chili peppers?
Me: Since we moved here and now they are on the radio like every third song.
Babe: I'd rather listen to the Red Hot Chili Peppers than that Stupid Fun Song or whatever.

One of my good friends, Courtesy, is riding her bike from Vancouver to TJ to raise money to fight MS. You should donate! But, you should also check out their blog, which is featured on my sidebar: Tretre and SeaWolf's Big Adventure. I can't imagine doing what they are doing, because I am simply out of shape and not very at things, but it looks so cool and like so much fun!

I'm telling you, I think I need a vacay. Not because I'm so overworked or anything, but I just feel like seeing some new things and being all blown away by some sights.

I talked to a guy in the elevator this morning who was planning a trip to New Orleans for a week. The girl who works next to me is going to the Dominican Republic for ten days. These women I was speaking with on Monday are going to China and Japan. Not sure where I would go, but still thinking the Pacific Northwest would be nice. Hawaii. Somewhere chill.

The Blimp

I do believe it was my sibling Sunny who once said being a blimp pilot sounded like the easiest and most stress free job. Maybe I made that up. Anyways, my pal Jason did a story on the new blimp. So watch it. You'll be happier than you were a few minutes ago. I promise.

Hey Guys!

Sorry I have been out of touch.

It's been busy.

But not bad.

Anyways, I also sort of feel like I should address some of the big stuff that's going on in the world, but I don't want to. Instead, I bring you these things that are supposed to make you happy or laugh. Remember, Coodence's World is a place to relax on the web. Enjoy!

Weekend Photographs

We were, as a family, epic in our laziness this weekend. Saturday morning was spent largely like this:

Which  makes me laugh and laugh and laugh.
We did get dolled up and go to a wedding reception, though on Saturday evening. And we took the above family photographs.

Sunday was another lazy day. We went to the farmers market in the morning, then took a long nap. This is buddy after just waking up.

She took her first drive though. She was thrilled as you can see.

Then, she and I picked all the tomatoes and a lot of the basil from the yard and made a fresh delicious pizza sauce.

Then, we drove to Bellflower to watch a marching band competition! Dani was in it. See her? Just up there.

And this happened. With the handholding.

Yeah. You see it.

Haiku Friday

I spent this morning
learning about homelessness.
And ways to end it.

Doesn't seem likely.
But, good people are trying.
And making some wins.

I can't imagine
an LA without people
residing outside.

Two years!

I noticed this morning that our two year moving to Los Angeles anniversary (July 1) passed by with zero mention. In NYC, we used to have margaritas on August 1st, our move to NYC date.

So, it's been two years!

Things have changed since we got here - buddy's gotten two years bigger, we both have full-time, permanent jobs, and we are buying a house.

I still miss NYC, though. Not living there really. But sometimes. I miss the people and the energy and my old neighborhood. The food.

We spend a lot of time in our backyard. We walk almost nowhere. We go to the movies more. Hang out at bars less. See our families more. I think we work about the same amount, but I'm not sure.

Two years. I definitely feel much more removed from my old job now that this amount of time has passed, but I still really miss it! It's probably what I miss the most about NYC.

Anyways, I'm sure glad we're here. It's very, very nice.

I've probably talked about this before, but I always remember going to the dentist when I was a kid and then my mom or dad taking me to McDonald's after on my way to school.

Anyways, so today was Buddy's 3rd year doctor checkup so I took a few hours off of work and took her to the doc. She's perfect (which I knew), still 95% in height and 50% in weight and 100% in CUTE.

After the doctor visit, we walked over to the coffee shop next door. We sat down and ordered eggs and toast and fruit and ate and chatted and stacked up creamers and those little things of jam they have at diners. And maybe I cried a little bit because it was the cutest best date ever.

Then I took her to daycare, and when we pulled up all the kids ran up to the gate and said BUDDY IS HERE! Except they used her real name. And before I knew it, she was off and playing with her friends.

Potato Salad

I got this recipe from Sunset and have modified it a bit and will now make it for the rest of my life.

Spring Bounty Potato Salad
• 2 pounds small Yukon Gold potatoes
• 1 cup shelled fresh peas (who has the time, really? I use frozen.)
• 2 tablespoons white wine vinegar (a little more, I think. But, because I don't really measure I suppose we'll never know).
• 1 cup mayonnaise
• 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
• 4 spring onions* or green onions, thinly sliced
• 5 hard-cooked large eggs*, peeled and roughly chopped

• About 3 tbsp. chopped tarragon
**I add two tablespoons of Stone Ground Dijon Mustard

Bring 1 in. water to a boil in a large saucepan. Set potatoes in a steamer basket and steam in pan, covered, until tender, about 20 minutes. Cool in ice water, then pat dry. Cut potatoes into chunks and put in a large bowl. I DONT COOL IN ICE WATER, BUT I DO STEAM THE POTATOES AND I THINK IT MAKES THIS EVEN BETTER. TRY IT!
Meanwhile, bring some water to a boil in a saucepan. Add peas; cook until tender, 3 minutes. Drain and transfer to ice water, then drain again. I DONT DO THE ICE THING, JUST RINSE THEM OFF.
Whisk together vinegar, mayonnaise, and salt AND DIJON in a small bowl to combine. Add onions, peas, and half the dressing to potatoes and gently stir to coat. Add eggs and 3 tbsp. tarragon and gently stir to coat.
Spread remaining dressing on bottom of a wide bowl, add salad, and sprinkle with more tarragon if you like.

Long weekend, scant pictures

Who needs a lot of pictures, when these are the two you have to share?!

Haiku friday

Should be a good month.
Already, the fun has begun!
Yesterday was grand.

Today was a date.
Babe and I snuck off to play.
Went to see a flick.

And now? The weekend!
Stretching ahead, lazily.
Very casual.

A good party

In recent years, I've noticed that a good gathering can be counted by the number of children's shoes left at my house after a party. It would appear that list is growing to encompass other items, as well.
