Looking back

I love to do the year in review! Especially focused on stupid minutiae that no one would ever care about.

With that introduction, I give you my top three in the category of super random media.

Best vampire book I read in 2012

  • Out of the fifteen or so vampire books I read in 2012, I'd have to say the best one was probably "Lover Reborn" from the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series. Go ahead, folks. Judge away.
Best book not about vampires that I read in 2012

  • This had to be The Alchemist, by Paolo Coehlo. This is the book that inspired me to talk about my personal journey and to understand that as long as I'm on my personal journey, I will experience happiness.
Best KROQ song of 2012

  • If you listen to KROQ, and I do, then you know they only play about 15 songs on their rotation, and this changes about quarterly. So, all told you've got about 60 songs to choose from. I'd say my favorite this year was Macklemore and Ryan Lewis Thrift Shop. A very close second is the Mumford and Sons song I Will Wait. Let's not forget Gotye, but I won't link to it because we don't want to get that stuck in our heads, do we?
Best movie on Netflix streaming

  • I watched Super 8 on Netflix streaming and it was definitely one of the best movies I watched in 2012. Please remember that I probably only watched about a dozen movies in total this year.
Stay tuned for another completely random list of bests of 2012. Enjoy!

Wknd pics in a random order

Few things are more lovely than a drive down or up the PCH. Yesterday did not disappoint. The sky was stormy and the sea was grey. Get it socal winter!

Oh Christmas Cookies. Just stop it already.
Seriously?
These are from BFF's mom's ornament party, which I attended on Saturday night.

Buddy and Queso running running running running running.

Queso opening his drill set. He loved it!

Buddy opening her Dora Pillow pet. She LOVES it.

My ornament!
Here's the scene stealer. The show stopper. Buddy eating a toffee bar. I just love her. That is all.

My thoughts

Sometimes, I have to get my thoughts out on current issues,  as you all know. And I don’t want to do it on Facebook, so you will bear the brunt of it here.

I've never been sadder by anything that has happened in our lifetime. Except maybe Katrina. But even that I could think about without crying uncontrollably after a short time. Not this.

On the issue of gun control – yes. Let’s ban more assault weapons and crazy machine guns. As someone on Facebook put it, there are already so many out there it won’t make that much of a difference. Well, I say it another way, there are already enough out there so let’s stop making and selling them. I don’t care about the 2nd amendment, to be honest, and even if you ban crazy machine guns all those “gun enthusiasts” will still have plenty of guns with which to shoot birds and people.

Another thing I read was: I wish access to mental health care was as easy to come by as access to ak47s. I agree. Let’s work on that as a nation.

But here’s the other thing I can’t get out of my head. When I thought of all of those sweet babies and their devastated parents and community my mind kept turning to the drone attacks our country routinely launches against the middle east and all of those children’s deaths for whom we are responsible. And how is there not more outrage against that? Look, I’m just saying it’s worth examining our foreign policy a little bit if we’re thinking through these domestic issues.

Another thing – people say they don’t want to politicize this event. It is political. Talking about and thinking through difficult issues about rights and freedoms and public health and safety especially at a time when our failings as a society are staring at us in the face and searing us through the heart is exactly the time to do so.

Good morning. Weekend pictures to follow.

Love
Cod.

haiku friday

here's a thought for you.
let's have some peace on this earth.
and goodwill to men.

lets round up the guns.
and throw them in the ocean.
and the crazies, too.

let's hug our babies.
and our friends and families.
and yeah, pray some too.

Ta-da! Weekend pics

My niece is the one in the middle in the red. She did so good!

My nephew is the blurry second kid from the right. He was SO CUTE on stage dude.

Lots of children.

Look at who was in my back seat!! I love driving him around.
While I was in San Diego, Buddy was sliding.

Sunday morning we strolled around the promenade. Rough living in socal this time of year, I tell you. No coats! It's December people.
I stinkin love my house you guys. It just looks so old timey. I mean cuz it is. Old timey. I thought this was neat because of the juxtaposition of the christmas decorations and the palm tree. Juxtaposition. Yeah, I said it.
Here's a nice picture of Buddy dressed like a princess sort of scoping out the decorations in someone else's yard.

She sure does clean up nice though, huh?

Stop it.I can't with the coat.
She got dressed up for Babe's Christmas party.

Where we wore masks.

And shared our toys.

And jumped off the furniture.

Buddy and Dada.

Haiku Friday

Work christmas party.
It's during the daytime which
is a little weird.

It's school wide though, not
just my little department.
Should be a good time.

Took me forty five
minutes to get dressed for it.
Need a festive top!

The Good, the Bad, the Ugly: Holiday Edition

The Good

The Bad

  • We decided to do something different for Christmas Cards this year and I'm not sure how smart it was. So, every year for the past like 5 or 6 years Babe and I have handmade our cards. It's fun, we like it. Then, we had her Buddiness and started getting those picture cards made of her. Do a little photo shoot, order the cards, badabing! This year, apparently, I cannot stand my real camera as I have literally not taken any pictures with a real camera this entire year. True? Yeah, I didn't even take it to NYC for vacay. Anyways, so we decided to use her school picture and slip it into cards that we purchase from the store. I'm not gonna lie, that makes me very uncomfortable. Here's why:
    1. Do we have cards to put them in? No.
    2. Do I know where to get good cards? No. You know, like nice cards on good paper that don't cost an arm and a leg.
    3. Do I have enough Buddy pictures? Not really.
    4. Should I have just stuck with the old way? Yes.
The Ugly

  • Butter consumption and usage is at all an all time high at the Bhallagrass compound. That's all I am going to say. Draw your own conclusions.

Ornaments

My MIL gave me all these handmade incredible ornaments that I love very deeply. What I need is a separate tree to hang them on. What I want is an EverGleam tree from the 60s. They don't make them anymore and no matter where you look it costs between $200 and $300 to buy one

So, I made an arrangement in a large, white bowl and made that my centerpiece for my table.

Isn't it neat?

Next year, I'm getting the tree though.

Tis the season

  • For Christmas Cookies
  • Cards
  • Packages arriving in the mail
  • Lines at the post office
  • Being thankful
  • Being nice
  • Being naughty
  • Playing with ornaments
  • Listening to Christmas music

  • Wearing Santa pajamas
  • Looking at Christmas lights
  • Eating appetizers

Weekend Pics

Good ole Husband Mike spent all Saturday making our house look super awesome and festive to passers by! Thanks Chach!

He asked me if I took a good picture of the house for weekend pics.
And I said no, but I took this super creepy one of Buddy who looks like an alien standing in front of our Frosty!
Ha!
Next time, guys!

Guess who freaking loves Christmas?
Buddy.
LOOK MAMA!
Every time we opened an ornament she said: Oh My Goodness!!

This is pretty much how it is now. In my house.

Despite the rain, we also played in the park on Saturday. Here's Buddy with one of her friends.

And here's Brave Buddy climbing a ladder.

I just think she's so neat.

Here's how we ended the weekend. With Buddy wearing her grandparent's stockings on her feet, while pretending to drink beer out of a pretend beer mug ornament, wearing ornaments as bracelets.

And here's the tree.

Oh. So last week, I forgot to include pictures of Buddy and GUS. Here:
