Haiku Friday

Here's something funny,
something that doesn't happen
with city living.

This morning, Lila
was skunked. Who's Lila, you ask?
My sister's doggie.

And what does skunked mean?
The dog got sprayed by a skunk.
Everyone now stinks.

21. As we go into this holiday season, I realize how very thankful I am for butter. Delicious, full fat, full flavor butter.
22. I am equally thankful for hot coffee with half and half in it. More please!
23. I am thankful for the 8 minute commute today due to the fact that everyone is already on holiday. Holiday! I'm British.
24. I am thankful that I have 4 nieces, two nephews, three sisters, a mom and a dad, a MIL and a FIL, and no dog because Buddy fears them.
25. I am thankful for my new, burgundy, cardigan from Banana Republic and equally thankful for the 30% off coupon that made me feel okay about purchasing it. So warm!
26. Cease-fire? Thankful.
27. Obama as president? Thankful. Hillary as Secretary of State? Thankful.
28. My new Kindle Fire that I got for my beeday from my husband? Thanks!
29. I am thankful for my business card which is classy.
30. In general, I am thankful. My life is full of happiness and wonderful people. I have an adorable baby and a super nice husband. I have a safe, home with working heat, a fridge full of beer - I mean food, and a lot of friends and family. Plus a good job and terrific hair. Any complaints? Nope. I am often worried about losing five pounds - if that's my biggest problem then all I can be is thankful, thankful, thankful.

Happy Thanksgiving everybody.

13. I am thankful for my giant SIGG that keeps me hydrated during the day.
14. I am thankful for my bluetooth so I can call people while I'm driving and feel like Ari Gold just a little bit sometimes.
15. I am thankful for this job I had in college as a transcriber because now I can type super fast.
16. I am thankful for my stupid iphone because the battery lasts a long time.
17. I am thankful for the makers of both craft beer (Ballast Point, I'm looking at you!) and delicious red wine because I like to drink them.
18. I am thankful that we get off super early tomorrow!
19. I am thankful that I am able to spend Thanksgiving with my family and that I don't have to set foot in an airport to do it.
20. I am thankful for you, dear blog readers. You guys are the best!

Giving Thanks

I took zero pics this weekend, so I thought I would take a page from the Book of BFF and give some thanks. We've got three days til Thanksgiving, so what say we do 10 a day?

Here we go:

  1. I am thankful for my little family. For my Husband Babe and my sweet little Buddy.
  2. I am thankful for my peeps. We moved here to be closer to family and it worked. We are.
  3. I am thankful for my job dude. It's a good one and even though I don't *really* get it, I know that eventually I will. Ha!
  4. I am thankful for my little blue rental house. Yes, yes, there's no insulation, and sure, the floors creak and squeak, and yeah sometimes I look at the cracks in the wall and wonder just how long it's going t be standing, but it cozy and cute and I like it.
  5. I am beyond thankful for Buddy's daycare. They take such good care of her and she absolutely loves it there. They teach her stuff and just love her up good. I never worry about her when she is there.
  6. I am thankful for this oatmeal I am eating for breakfast because it is warm and delicious.
  7. I am thankful for my dear friends.
  8. I am thankful for my ridiculous view out of my window here on the 15th floor.
  9. I am thankful for my relatively short commute to work.
  10. I am thankful for living here, in the US of A, where it is safe and I have a ton of freedom to do just about whatever I want.

Haiku Friday

Hohos and twinkies,
orange-y cupcakes.

Zingers and sno balls,
coffee crumble cake, donettes,
and of course ding dongs.

Gone for good, bankrupt.
I think they are gross.

Hi Guys!

Hi Guys!

Sorry I missed you yesterday. I was laid up at home with a rotten cold. As such, I am back at work today and now trying to catch up.

We had our big event on Tuesday  night and it was pretty darn good, thanks for asking.

I'll check in later if I can.

Hope you're having a great day!

Haiku Friday

Here's to a great week.
Barack Obama wins it!
What could be better?

It's a gorgeous day.
Only a few clouds far off.
Sort of fall like out.

And by "fall-like" I
mean in the upper sixties.
Oh, SoCal Weather.

Punk Rock

Last night, Babe and I watched a documentary called "The Other F Word" about punk rockers who become fathers. (Father being the other F word. Get it?) I'll let the Variety review speak for me, because as you know, I'm no movie reviewer.

"The Other F Word is a raucous, eye-opening, sad and unexpectedly wise look at veteran punk rockers as they adapt to the challenges of fatherhood. To be sure, watching foul- mouthed, colorfully inked musicians attempt to fit themselves into Ward Cleaver's smoking jacket provides for some consistently hilarious situational comedy, but the film's deeper delving into a whole generation of artists clumsily making amends for their own absentee parents could strike a resonant note with anyone (punk or not) who's stumbled headfirst into family life."

- Andrew Barker, Variety

You know what it was? Sad. The music was so good and it was in a lot of parts funny. But it was also super sad to watch these guys be on the road 200 days out of the year, skyping with their kids, and just feeling so burnt out. But, more than that it revealed these guy's relationships with their own fathers and how those relationships led them to adapting their punk rock personas. Deep.

It focused on a lot of bands but in particular, Pennywise, which I have been a fan of  for 20 years now. I remember seeing them at the Ventura Theater in the early '90s. And then countless timez with Babe.

So, if you like punk rock, check it out.

There. That was my review.

Today has got to be my favorite day to listen to and read the news. I mean in ages!

Here's a nice line from the NY Times editorial:

African-Americans and Hispanics overwhelmingly supported Mr. Obama. White men voted for Mr. Romney; he won among those who said they opposed gay marriage, wanted to outlaw abortion, or favored mass deportation of illegal immigrants. None of those are majority positions in this country anymore.

My favorite line on facebook last night (okay, one of them), was after  President's acceptance speech:

"He shoulda dropped the mic."

Congrats, America! Congrats to all of us who are minorities or middle class or want to protect women's rights or feel like gay people should have the same rights as the rest of us or feel like immigrants should get a fair shake in this country. In the words of Dora, los hicimos! We did it!!

Now! Back to work!!

Four more years!

Haiku Friday

Buddy sang to me.
One: happy birthday to you!
But then, it all changed.

It's mama's birthday,
I said. She said, it's sasha's!
I said, no, mama's!

Then Auntie called up.
She said "it's auntie's birthday!!!!!!"
Geez. What about me?
