Buddy Day!

Today, I am going to:
  • work on fattening up the buddy.
  • take her to the doctor for her nine month check up
  • do a little work
  • clean up the pad some
  • get a couple groceries
  • upload march photos and send them out
  • watch the home opener yankee game!! at least part of it!
  • make something good for dinner because i finally feel good enough to eat something.

Today, yesterday, tomorrow

  • is going to be a better day. I got more than three hours of sleep (five? six?). Buddy is a little bit perkier today. I have a lot of work to do that will be both fun and easy (like someone we know!). I have a gatorade and a coffee.
  • was a terrible day. I hadn't slept well, my baby was still sick. When the nanny walked in she said "she looks so skinny!" and I basically cried all day. My stomach was a total mess. I couldn't get any work done. Everything I tried to do that I thought was going to be fun and easy was hard.
  • will be an even better day than today is. I have buddy's 9 month check up at 1pm. I think I'll feel better when I talk to a doctor, even though I've talked to a doctor almost every day since this happened. For those of you who don't know, buddy has a stomach virus and it fucking sucks.

Nine months old

Published with Blogger-droid v1.6.7

  1. Buddy is nine months old today. Picture to follow.
  2. She got her first real sickness this past weekend. I mean, Buddy has been sick before (twice in fact) and she has coughed and sneezed and felt poopie, but she has never had a fever! She had a stomach bug that was terrible and I was so sad and she was so sad and it was so hard to take care of her. I felt so bad and she felt so bad and it was so hard. She is on the up and up now. She hasn't had a fever since Saturday.
  3. Ang is here, she came on Thursday. We took a walk around the nabe on Friday and then went to Manhattan to stay at Auntie Nine's since she has a two bedroom. It ended up being where we took care of sick buddy for two days. Definitely the worst weekend of my life.
  4. Today I stayed home from work to keep watching buddy. Ang is here to help and we'll take a walk later, bundle buddy up and go outside. It's 28 degrees outside. Where oh where is the Spring?

Haiku Friday

Angela is here.
Banj to me, Bang to Hodie.
Buddy just loves her.

We are going to
staycation at Auntie Nine's
in Manhattan. Yay!

Laundry first, though. A
mama's work is never done.
So dramatic, right?

Buddy day was yesterday!!

Shoot! I didn't write yesterday.

But, I did a few things:

1) Made dinner for the family.
2) Welcomed my sibling from California.
3) Went to babies and beer.
4) Didn't do the work I was supposed to do.
5) Took a nap with buddy.
6) Delivered a present to my coworker who was "doored" on his bike last week.

Bobby McGee

The Dr. Seuss book, The Thinks you can Think is one our list of frequent reads in the household. (Oh the thinks you can think up if only you try!)

But this post is about the songs I can sing. Oh the songs that I sing to Princess Buddy, if only you knew.

From most recent to longest ago (to name a few!):
  • Bobby McGee (Janis Joplin)
  • Anything from Sound of Music, especially So Long Farewell and Do Re Mi
  • Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
  • Pearl Jam: Alive & Elderly Woman
  • The Weeds soundtrack, Little Boxes (Little Sasha on the hillside, Little Sasha made of Cod & Babe)
  • Mr. Sandman
  • Anything by Tom Petty (Why? I don't know!)
  • 10 Little Monkeys
  • Happy Birthday (desperate times...)

A few of my favorite things, reprise

  • I just read a book called "Winner of the National Book Award" that was absolutely hilarious and I recommend it to all who want a good read and a laugh.
  • I still love Amazing Race, Survivor and Ellen. Really that is all I watch on TV, and I barely watch Ellen.
  • I made a new white bean, green chili chicken the other day that I think will be a new favorite in my household. Recipe to follow.
  • One of my dear friends and frequent blog commenter Jessicurl just had a baby who is now one of my favorite babies.
  • My own baby is getting so close to crawling and watching her maneuver all over the house is one of my favorite things.
  • Our sleeping arrangements are ridiculous right now but enable us both to get at least half a night of uninterrupted sleep. Uninterrupted sleep? One of my favorite things.
  • Coffee.
  • Cadbury mini eggs are clearly one of my favorite things but I gave up candy for lent and let me tell you giving up candy for lent is one of my favorite things. The only time I miss candy is around 2pm at my desk and I have a handy pack of gum ready for those moments. Don't get me wrong, I am looking forward to Buddy's Easter Basket so I can eat all her candy on Easter but for now, happy as a clam.
  • Clams? Not one of my favorite things.
  • Routines. We have such a nice routine going right now with the buddy's night time bath/story/bottle/bed that I am full of joy just thinking about it.
  • Springtime.
  • My new jeans.

Numbers! Post 1,963

  1. It was seventy degrees on Friday! We enjoyed some sangria at happy hour before taking princess home.
  2. Princess, by the way, is eight months and four weeks. What a little nugget of buddiness. She's working on her fifth tooth by the way. Boy was she howling when she woke up last night. Poor little mama.
  3. We took it pretty easy this weekend. Went and saw Nina for a while on Saturday, that was lovely. Princess cheered her up, which was nice. For once the G was running so we got into the City real, real easily.
  4. We had a couple beers at the Black Swan on Saturday evening/early afternoon. That was also nice and very moderate.
  5. Sunday we saw the twinsies! Two babies! And took a bunch of walks. It was beautiful, about the 40s or 50s so cold for the rest of the world but downright springlike for us.
  6. Raining, pouring, old man? Snoring. Saw it snow while I was in my nine am meeting. For reals. Seventy on Friday, snowflakes on Monday. Solomon Grundie.

Haiku Friday

Breakfast? Not so good.
Chocolate yogurt sounded
better than it is.

Need some more coffee.
Tired of the spots 'round here.
Someone needs a change!

That someone is me.
In case you're bad at hinting.
I will spell it out.

Waiting for the subway (and one at home).

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

The Good
  • Life is good. Babe is awesome, Buddy is so cute I can't hardly stand it. She's getting cuter and funnier every day.
  • Spring is near! Near I say
The Bad
  • Tsunami? Massive nuclear meltdown? You know, all that jazz.
The Ugly
  • I dreamt that buddy was kidnapped yesterday. That was UGLY bad. I hated it. Hated it.

Tuesday, March 15, 2011

Buddy started by the kitchen, where I always set her while I'm getting my lunch ready, etc. in the morning, and ended up way over there. All by scooching/sliding backwards. Ha!

Monday, March 14, 2011

  1. Princess is eight and a half months old! What a dreamy little buddy she is, too!
  2. Had brunch at a friend's place and six of the eight of us showed up in weekend casual, jeans, zippy and sneakers. Buddy had on her overalls.
  3. Had a nice weekend in general. Too bad about that one hour of sleep we we lost! I could really use it back. It must be somewhere else with all of the other hours of sleep I have lost.
  4. Went to Roman's for brunch on Saturday with two pals. Buddy is getting so good at sitting in a high chair eating breakfast with us.
  5. Took care of a lot of things on my long long long list. Still have many to do, but its nice to make progress. Oops, need a number. Got done with half of the stuff I intended to do this past weekend.
  6. Can't believe this disaster in Japan. Have you seen these photographs? You can slide the picture and see before and after. You can send $10 by texting REDCROSS to 90999.

Haiku Friday

Earthquake in Japan!
Terrifying tsunami.
Damage looks awful.

My thoughts with them all.
Reminds me of Katrina,
May it be better.

My mom learned how to send picture texts.
It was snowing when I talked to her and she was wondering how she was going to "dig out" her car.
So, she called her brother to do it.

Ages ago, BFF used to do Lent and I used to mock her relentlessly as was my way. Now, I try not to mock her. Anyways, that's another story for another day. But, I have decided to pick up the torch where she left off and conduct a secular Lent, myself. I will be giving up candy this lent. I toyed with the idea of giving up beer, too, but as yet haven't decided.

Wish me luck!

  1. Babe and I had a nice three day weekend, with the buddy of course. Just the three of us!
  2. We went to Wisconsin, took a two hour flight and a two and a half hour drive. Buddy was terrific on all modes of transportation. I sure did sing a lot though.
  3. Got to see Grama and Great Grama. That was very nice. Stayed at the Casino and Babe won twenty dollars. WHOA.
  4. Oh! Buddy is eight months and two weeks old today.
  5. She still doesn't sleep through the night but she is waking up less frequently. Like two times or three times but not five times.
  6. It was freezing in Wisconsin, but it's nice here in NYC. By nice I mean in the 40s, for you Californians out there. Yup. 40s is nice. That's how we roll out here.
  7. Digging March so far. I think it's a good month for being in the swing of things. My March list is really long though, for both work and life. It's only the 2nd week, but I hope I can pull everything off.

Numbers will return tomorrow.

We are still in the winter wonderland that is Wisconsin! Talk about tundra. Long expanses of white snow-covered fields as far as the eye can see. Totally pretty though.

We have spent quite a bit of time in the car, and have listened to a lot of hair bands. Skid row, Metallica and GNR. Also, Wisconsin loves Bush.

Got to see my Grama and Buddy's Grama. Took it easy. Saw some cousins, second cousins and uncles.

And now we are headed to the airport!

Haiku Friday

I won't talk about
my neighbor who kept me up
last night, drunk-booting.

Instead, I'll tell you
that we're off to Wisconsin
to see Great Grama.

And Grama, also!
Buddy will be so happy,
and so super cute.

My story.

So, two moms walk into a bar.
It's Thursday at 4:30 in the afternoon.
The bar is empty, except for three people and a bartender.
Everyone looks to see who is coming through the door, as people do when there are only a few in the bar.
So one of the moms (ME!) says, "Oh hey! We're bringing our babies into this bar. Is that okay with you guys?!"
And the bartender says,
"Well, yeah, but I mean, if your baby starts crying, then you know."
and I looked at her and said:
and she said, "You know."
And I said, "What? Should I put her outside?"
And she said, "No, I mean don't put her outside, but you know, if she starts crying, you should, um you know, stop her from crying."
And so I said, "Are you sure? Are you sure I shouldn't just let her cry?"
And she said, "Um..ha?ha?"
And that's when my friend and I noticed that one of the three patrons at Washington Commons had his pug sitting at the bar. And I said:
"If your pug barks do you have to put him outside?"
And he said:
"No, only if its over 32 degrees!"
And I said:
"ME TOO! When it's warm enough, I just put her outside."

Besides being a mom, I also have a lot of friends and spend a lot of times and bars in Brooklyn and you should be nice and also? There were only three people in your bar. And also? My buddy never cried not once. UGH.

Buddy Day!

In addition to taking it easy, I am:
  • doing laundry
  • doing some work: a budget for WWC, editing a two pager (really six!) for the SOC, working on my March list
  • packing for Wisconsin this weekend?
  • watching princess buddy get cuter and cuter and cuter and cuter
  • meeting Nads at 4pm for babies and beer?
  • passing the keys off to landlord for the open house this weekend
  • making something good for dinner.
by the way, I was looking forward to taking a couple of walks today and I still will, but it is TWENTY degrees outside. TWENTY.

Yesterday when I got to daycare to pick up buddy she was picking out a book. I got watch her make her selection before she noticed me.

Typos in my blog

Sorry about all the typos of late in the old blog here. I appreciate your continuing to come back even though the copy editing is horrendous.

I will do better.

The Zoo

Our little family went to the zoo in February. It was super snowy and very quiet. There weren't many people there so it sort of felt like we had rented out the zoo for ourselves. I had never been to the Bronx Zoo and it is incredible. It's like a giant park with twisty, turny pathways and little mini-bamboo forests.
Luckily, they didn't notice these two monkeys were trying to escape!
Big kitty loves the snow.

Buddy fell asleep right before we got to the bears, which was good because then she couldn't attract their attention, tasty morsel that she is, but bad because it would have been nice for her to see her kin. Little bear.
This one is a heartbreaker for mama.

Shepherd's Pie, a cute salad and some bread

Last night we had the lovely G over for a bit to play with the buddy and hang out. Instead of ordering in from one of the five places we can order from in our neighborhood, I decided to make a shepherd's pie. What to know how? Here goes!

You'll need:
Veggies, like peas and carrots, frozen does the trick
Ground beef
Butta (say it like Paula Deen)

Preheat the oven to 375.

First, boil the potatoes.
While those are boiling, you heat up the onion in a little bit of butter & evoo. Then brown the meat, add salt and pepper and a little wocherstershire sauce. Add the frozen veggies. Cook until heated then turn off.

After about 15 minutes your potatoes will be soft. Mash them with some milk and sour cream and a little bit of butta.

Put the meat filling on the bottom of a casserole dish, then spread the mashed potatoes over the top.

Cook at 375 for 20 minutes, then broil for about 8 minutes til the top looks awesome.

Search with some nice greens like baby lettuces and a little vinaigrette, (EVOO, white wine vinegar, dijon mustard, salt and pepper). Yum!
