I love this picture of sleepy buddy on our recent road trip, clutching all of her things. Heeeee.

  1. Princess buddy is eight months old today! How do you like that, guys?!
  2. I have thirteen weeks of work left and we have seventeen weeks left in New York City!
  3. This weekend, we drove four hours one way and three and a half the other to see my sister and her family up in Glens Falls. They had no less than three feet of snow on the ground.
  4. It's the first time in about five years that we didn't watch the oscars at someone's house and have a little party. In fact, I recorded them and went to bed at 10pm! Dang.
  5. I have my second cold since the princess buddy was born. That's more than I got in the several years before she was born. Oh well, I'm sure it's the lack of sleep. It's not as bad as last time though!
  6. A new month tomorrow! How I love the first of the month.

Haiku Friday

What are you doing,
crazy rain storm in winter?
Not complaining, me.

Just haven't seen you.
In such a very long time.
Maybe November?

Torrential downpour!
At least the buddy is home
with Gladda today.

Black Swan

Babe and I saw a movie on Monday - our second since Princess Buddy was born. Black Swan featuring Ms. Natalie Portman was directed by the guy who directed Requiem for a Dream. I mention this because Requiem was one of the most effed up movies I've seen, ever. Black Swan is about a pretty little ballerina who goes a little bit crazy trying to land the role of a lifetime. Like a little bit batshit crazy.

Anywho, this movie has:
A lot of good things: Mila Kunis, great, scary NYC scenes, Winona Ryder
A lot of scary things: Winona Ryder stabbing herself in the face, scary mirror scenes, and a freak out scene with a bunch of paintings that come to life

Do I recommend it? Sure, but I will tell you I have had a hard time not thinking about it when its dark and I am trying to fall asleep. Will Natalie Portman win an Oscar for it? Maybe because she hasn't won one yet, but I'm not sure if it was Oscar worthy.

Numbers, one day late

  1. Princess is almost eight months old! Next Monday.
  2. We had a wonderful three day weekend. Friday night we took it easy, me and Babe. Had a beer or two on the terrace at work, went home and made dinner and hung out. Saturday, Princess Buddy took a three hour nap, thus enabling Mom and Dad to have lunch together at Smoke Joint and a couple of beers at the Pacific Standard. Saturday night we played video games and ate pizza. Yah. It was perfect.
  3. We had brunch with our two pals up from DC on Sunday. That was a treat. Princess Howler Monkey doesn't brunch often but she loves it. She even ate her little yogurt at the restaurant. SO CUTE.
  4. Sunday we went to a new spot called Fulton Grand for a beer or two and just hung out.
  5. Yesterday we had a date, just the two of us. We got a "breakfast melt" from Murray's - whatever you do don't call it an egg and cheese on a roll! Whatever you call it though it was amazing. We had Joe's coffee. We strolled through the village. We went to a movie. We went to the Blind Tiger. It was a perfect day.
  6. Last night, Princess only woke up twice! Wow!

Haiku Night Out Friday

Night out for us guys.
We saw Merchant of Venice.
With Al Pacino.

Why not go real big?
It was truly amazing.
I was awe/star struck.

Portia? Breathtaking.
Pacino? Unparalleled.
Babysitters? Best.

  • Pal and soon to be papa DB sent me this link this morning about a restaurant that we used to frequent when I was able to go places instead of not go places. Graffiti is a terrific restaurant in the village and the chef (Jehangir Mehta) was apparently on the next iron chef, which I hope they put on re-runs soon on the Food Network because I love the chef, too. Anyways, peep the article. Best line from the article? " Mehta's PR would like to mention that Pop Rocks aren't really the point."
  • Good thing I checked out The Facebook this morning (I don't always get a chance to look until my late afternoon pump brake) because Lo! I found this clip from Crusty for the recent PJ performance broadcast last night on PBS.
  • Tina Fey has an article in The New Yorker on being a working mother called "Confessions of a Juggler." Read an excerpt here.
  • And, it doesn't really seem fair that Watson can click faster than everyone else, right? He is a machine after all. Seems like they should have built some human delay into it.

Good, bad and ugly

  • It's kind of pretty out. It's freezing but it's supposed to be all the way in the 60s on Friday. You have no idea what that would mean to us out here.
  • I got a mani/pedi yesterday for the first time in quite some time. File that also under the ugly.
  • My attitude isn't great. I am tired and work is hard and blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. On the upside, though, I only have 15 more weeks of work until I am done! What do you think of that?!
  • How ugly should I be? My stomach got super messed up from the indian food we had yesterday at lunch. That's why I don't eat Indian out, yo! Just my pop's and mine. That was ugly.

Numbers, Valentime's Addition

(That's not a typo, people. That's how I spell and say Valentimes. Just like I say "mines" instead of "mine." Example: I haven't received mines yet. )
  1. Today is my first valentine's day with a buddy. She's dressed in pink today! She's also seven months and three weeks old. She's got two more teeth coming in at the top, she wakes up at least four times a night, and I love her to pieces. She's also eating a good meal at least twice a day, so that's nice. Also means if one more person tells me once she starts eating more she's going to sleep better I am going to ... well, walk away. That's what I'm going to do.
  2. We went to the zoo this weekend! For the first time! It was so much fun. I think I will tell you about it later in the week. It was so lovely and romantic, all snowy and quiet. I loved it.
  3. We had a car for two days, so in addition to going to the zoo we also went out to the island of long to do some shopping. Get the princess her umbrella stroller (though if its costs $220 is it really an umbrella stroller?) as well as other items.
  4. Went to bed early every night and didn't do any partying, really at all. I think I had two beers the whole weekend. Maybe that's why I'm so tired. Ha!
  5. Did a little bit of work on Saturday. Maybe an hour or two? Was that Sunday? Who knows.
  6. Saw Nina, who's been our friend for years and years and years and years. Like a couple of years longer than we've lived in NYC. (That number is 8 and a half, by the way.)

July 1, 2011

Spend my days with a woman unkind
Smoked my stuff and drank all my wine
Made up my mind, make a new start
Goin' to California with an achin' in my heart
Someone told me there's a girl out there
With love in her eyes and flowers in her hair

Took my chances on a big jet-plane
Never let 'em tell ya that they're aw-ooh-all the same
Hoh, the sea was red and the sky was grey
I wonder how tomorrow could ever follow today-hee
Mountains and the canyons start to tremble and shake
The children of the sun begin to awake
Watch out

It seems that the wrath of the gods got a punch on the nose
And it's startin' to flow, I think I might be sinkin'
Throw me a line, if I reach it in time
Meet you up there where the path runs straight and high

Find a queen without a king
They say she plays guitar and cries and sings, la-la-la-la
Ride a white mare in the footsteps of dawn
Tryin' to find a woman who's never, never, never been born
Standin' on a hill in the mountain of dreams
Tellin' myself it's not as hard, hard, hard as it seems
It's all happening, people.

  • February has no choice to be a short month after the walloping that January usually packs. This year was no exception.
  • I don't have a problem with valentime's day, but I don't care too much about it. This year, Babe and I have a new valentime! Hooray! (It's buddy, in case you guys were wondering if we were becoming polygamists. We're not.)
  • At NYU, we get a wee holiday for the president's day. That's a February plus.
  • We're taking a little trip up to Glens Falls this month to see the familials. That'll be nice and probably snowy.
  • That big event we had was over at the beginning of the month so hopefully work will be more manageable now.

  1. What a game, huh guys?! WOW! That was a heart stopper. My pops called it on Saturday, he said this is the fifth time the Packers are in the superbowl and their fourth win. Good call pops!
  2. My little buddy is seven months and a week old today. Or something like that. She's ankle deep in her seventh month to be sure. And, she's working on her third tooth! No wonder she never sleeps through the night. Yeah, that's it!
  3. On Friday night, I came home early and went to bed early. Hung out with the Chach and the Bud and was in bed before ten.
  4. Saturday, we braved the rain to go have lunch and a beer or two over at the Black Swan. Buddy took a two hour siesta so me and her papa had a chance to chat it up. That was super nice.
  5. Saturday noche, two pals came over and we played Guitar Hero. That was only the second time the wii has been operational in the seven months the buddy has been in our lives.
  6. Sunday of course we watched the superbowl. We also took advantage of the forty plus degree weather and went for a stroll and went to Trader Joe's and the bookstore. What a beauty of a weekend!

Things I love about NYC

  • The sirens. JUST KIDDING. That's one thing I don't love about NYC and look forward to one day living in a place where sirens do not go by at odd hours of the night every night without fail.
  • The health care. I have the best doctors for both me and the buddy and for this I am very very thankful.
  • The bagels from J&B, right next door. Small and crispy on the outside and light on the inside.
  • Any one of the fifteen delicious pizza spots in my vicinity (except for the gross ones, you know who you are.)
  • My incredible office that is larger than some of the apartments I've lived in.
  • The icy sleet falling from the sky. (wait a tick...)

Current fave.

I feel like

I woke up, finally, after a long time underground. What with birthing the buddy and then being home for three months, then diving head first back into work, then being subjected to the holidays (and by that I just mean the constant having something to do that goes with it being the holidays), now things are starting to be more normal.

I mean, I still work like a crazy person - when I am here, I am focused like a laser beam (I must shout out to Jessicurl for saying that and I adopted it.) It really is how I feel. If I'm not in a meeting I am frantically trying to get an ounce or two work done. And then at five pm I am out the door either to pick up the buddy or to rush home to her.

Anyways, all this is to say that I've started to read the news again, and interact with the world at large and I am quite glad about it. Glad to be back with my New Yorker in hand.
