2 month doctor visit today

Off to the doctor today for Sasha's two month check up. Yeah cuz she's such a monkey. Anyone want to guess her weight? She was 9.5 lbs one month ago. I'm going with 12 pounds. Hee. She's a little turkey.

Vaccinations today. They're going to hurt her and make me cry. Poor little buddy. I wish we didn't have to do these, but not enough to actually not do them. Some people don't vaccinate their children, of course. These are the people who are relying on all the rest of us to do it for them.

I'm going back to work in three weeks. This is not something I am looking forward to. Don't get me wrong, I like my job. I mean I sort of love it, but I don't love it more than I love my then three month old buddy.

She's sleeping now, obviously. And Cecilia is here cleaning my apartment. Because I am bourgeoisie.

Got that? Bourgeoisie.

Yak Attack

Sasha was very brave when she met a yak today in the bedroom. Very brave indeed.

Numbers!

Here's the situation:
  1. Sasha turns 9 weeks today. My little buddy.
  2. She also had her two month birthday on Saturday.
  3. We went to 67 Burger on Saturday with some pals and ate a delicious burger and drank a delicious beer.
  4. We bought our tickets for our Christmas trip. I hope this is the last time we need to fly anywhere at Christmas. Set us back more than 1,000 dollars.
  5. Went to our pals house on Friday night. Stayed out til like 9:30 p.m. You got that right. 9:30! Late night.
  6. Watched two Yankee games.
  7. Went to the Hot Bird for Amy's last night in NY. She's been here for six years and is moving to London.
  8. Got four or five mosquito bites at a backyard BBQ on Sunday.
  9. Only talked to one member of my family. This is not the norm.

Haiku Friday

What a lovely week.
Weather: fall like and gentle,
rainy or sunny.

Walks around Brooklyn:
Solanasaurus, Amy,
and just my buddy.

She's a little sick,
my little buddy. She has
the sniffles. Poor thing.

Numbers

Well:
  1. Princess turns 8 weeks old today. My little buddy. She is such a good girl. She sorta has a routine now where she sleep for five hours at night, wakes up to have a snack, then sleeps for another three. I like this.
  2. Today is "unseasonably cool." It is in the 70s. I could almost cry I am so happy.
  3. This weekend, we went to a one year old birthday party. They said no presents, so we didn't bring any. Felt weird but when I say no presents, I really don't want presents. We brought beer. Happy birthday, kid.
  4. Played cornhole on the FC terrace and realized that our little baby girl is on a different team than me and her dad. She was born on the east coast, so plays for the east coast census region. What a trip. Her team won - but we only played one game. Need a rematch.
  5. Looks like I found childcare for two days a week. Now need to find it for another two.
  6. I finished my first book since having my baby - I read the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Terrific!
  7. Went to the pacific standard yesterday for an IPA or two. So delicious!

Sabra

I don't think you have this commercial out in California, do you? It makes me laugh so hard. Every day, Ms. Janet. Every day.

Haiku Friday

Going to yoga today.
Mommy and me though, of course.
Not such a work out.

A lot of fun, though.
Nice to be with other moms
and their wee babies.

No one cares when she
cries or when I breastfeed her.
And, I like to OM.

Unrelated Items

1) I cannot tell you how disgusted I am by people who clip their nails in public places. It literally makes me want to boot. I am waiting for the subway and no matter how far away I move I can hear the click on the nail clipper slicing her nails. Ugh.

2) I am now on two listserves for parents - the fortgreenebabies and parkslopeparents lists. They offer everything from classified ads (cribs, toys, you name it), to real estate, to parenting advice and debate. They also have lots of nanny listings which is why I signed up in the first place. Anyways, the best thing about it is that people sign all emails with their names and their child's name - ie, Coodence, mom to Sasha (7 weeks). I can tell you that there are no children in park slope named Andy or Mike or Sarah or Jane. The name that prompted this post: Paisley (3 months). Or how about Keppler (6 months) or Harris (2 years). Not to mention the scores of Jacksons and Charlies and Emmas.

Paisley. Seriously? Paisley.

3) On my way to get root canal. Babe is watching the buddy.

4) The G train really does come at 13 after the hour.

Fun

Yesterday was fun. Babe stayed home from work as our anniversary present. Sasha took a three hour nap in the morning. I went to the nail salon and did some maintenance. I put Sasha in a beautiful dress and we went out to lunch. She took the subway in her stroller for the first time. That was an experience. We went and had a beer. Got some provisions from Trader Joe's. Came home and chilled. Sasha let us eat dinner together. She took a bath and fell asleep. We put her down at 10, she woke up at 1:45. Babe took that shift, I got her on the next one at 4:30. It's all happening, people.

We have a cleaning lady coming for a second anniversary present. I hope she does a good job and doesn't take all day. It's very strange to have someone else clean our house, since Babe is the master cleaner. I have a feeling I will get over the strangeness very soon.

I am going to make a list of things I want to do before going back to work. As it is, the days are flying by. I found a daycare one block from where I work and am going to meet her on Friday. That would cover two days a week and I'd find a nanny to take care of the little buddy here on the other two days. It's not like the daycare is cheaper, it's just right by my work. Hopefully I could feed her at lunch during the day. "We'll see." It's all a bunch of "we'll see" at this point.

This blog sure has gotten more personal since I had a baby. I guess because it's more about me than about the places we go. Since we don't go too many places.

Anniversary

I don't have a lot of digital pictures from that day, but you get the idea. Seven years ago me and Babe got hitched over in the Berkeley hills. As far as I can remember it was a perfect day.

Numbers

Hello, Monday my old friend. Here's what's been going on:
  1. Sasha turns SEVEN weeks old today. How you like that? Little buddy smiles a lot and likes to grab on to things.
  2. She's, for the last two or three nights, slept for four hours in a row!
  3. This weekend, we went out with four or five friends to Washington Commons for a beer or two in their lovely backyard. That was really fun. Princess just had a bottle, no beer.
  4. Friday, I took the little buddy to Mommy and Me yoga at the Bend and Bloom. It was an hour and a half class and I probably got about 40 minutes of yoga on. Not bad, to be sure.
  5. We also went to Manhattan for happy hour at my work on the terrace. That's Buddy's fourth trip to Manhattan and I can probably stop counting them now.
  6. Last night, Babe and I watched a couple of innings of the Yankee game at the Black Swan over in Bed-Stuy. We lost 1-0 to the KC Royals. Look at us, getting out all over the place!

Happy Birthday Benny!

Here's Ben, co-chillin on my couch watching Scooby Doo. He's five years old today! Five! How's that for a big boy!!

Niagara Falls

My sibling is in Niagara Falls right now. Ever been? About five years ago, me and Babe were in a wedding in Buffalo, NY. We took that opportunity to drive over to Niagara with frequent blog commenter Solanasaurus. We ate at the spinning restaurant that overlooked Niagara. We also went into some shady mall/casino since we had nothing to do.

The falls are kind of awesome. The surrounding area is kind of a dump. These are my thoughts. You should probably go though, if you have a chance.

I always think of Scrooged, the movie, when the ghost of Christmas past is talking about someone seeing his past and in this crazy accent he says, about the guy crying, "Niagara Falls." You'd have to know the movie for that line to make any sense. Chances are, some of you do.

The system

One of the reasons I'm not totally wild-eyed and exhausted (just a little bit bleary-eyed and occasionally super-tired) is because of our little system.

The system.

Babe takes the first wake up in the night. He also puts her to the bed. So what this used to mean was that he held her from about 9 on, then fed her at midnite and put her to bed. Now, we put her in her bassinet around 9 or 10 pm (he does that) and then he takes the first feeding. If its before 2am.

It should technically be before 2am, because little buddy doesn't really go longer than 3 hours without eating. But what if she doesn't go down until 10:45 or 11:00? Then she could very likely get up at 2am the first time.

The other night it was 2:14 and I was like, Babe. Babe. Babe. She's awake. And he totally got up and fed her. And I knew in my heart of hearts that it was wrong! So wrong what I had done. Such a breech of the system.

But I still turned right over and fell back asleep.

Misc. Items

  • There is little Sasha loves more than laying on her changing table staring at her mobile, flailing her arms and legs wildly. She does it on the couch now, too.
  • I called about 15 day cares yesterday and only made connection with two of them. I'm going to visit one on Thursday. Wish me luck! She's only a few blocks from my work. Would be nice to get to see the buddy during the day.
  • Had lunch with my friend who is pregsies with twins. Twins! I can't imagine having two babies at the same time. One is quite the handful. Twins!
  • It's hot again. 95.
  • If you were going to live in Los Angeles, where would you live?
  • I'm now onto Season Four of the Wire. Just in case anyone is keeping track of what I'm watching while on maternity leave.
  • Also, did you see True Blood? That show is borderline porn. And I mean that in the nicest possible way.
  • A picture of the buddy you say? Well, I'll see what I can do.

Numeros

Well!
  1. Sasha turns six weeks today!
  2. I just learned there are 800 bridges in NYC. 800! That's a lot of bridges.
  3. We celebrated Ben's fifth birthday yesterday at Nina's place.
  4. That means Sasha had her third trip to Manhattan. It was fine, but we had to take the 7 instead of the E because there was no E service. I hate the subways on the weekend.
  5. It's going to be 90 degrees again today. Again. Do you feel like its groundhog day? Me too.
  6. I finished with the third season of Veronica Mars. What a nice little show that turned out to be. No vampires, either.

Haiku Friday

So many August birthdays:
Ranaldo, Benny, Omar,
Scootation Device.

Hopefully Randi's
buddy will make an August
appearance, also.

Anniversary,
also. Me and Babe, seven
years since we married.

Babies and TV and random stories, oh my.

All my stories are about my baby or about TV shows. I wonder how long this will last? Maybe forever?

Sasha eats like a champ now, so the next thing to worry/think about it sleep I guess.

I've been watching Veronica Mars as my new way to pass the time. It's a great show - ever seen it? Ever heard of it?! I hadn't. It was filmed in San Diego and features the gal who played Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell). Other than that, it's a teen drama mystery series. What else do you need to know?

Yesterday was my brother in law's birthday. Happy Birthday, Ranaldo! See you tomorrow.

In other news, it's super hot here again. Supposedly this won't last, but I know not to believe anything they say anymore.

I have a bum tooth that I have to get fixed. That sucks more than the usual amount because I have a newborn. Why does that make a difference you might ask? Because I am her food source and if I go away it will be complicated. But, some people go back to work at six weeks (can you imagine? I cannot.), so I think we should be okay.

I haven't read anything in weeks. I keep putting the NY magazine on my little table but have failed to get more than a few sentences in. I read about some kid named Jason Bieber who the teenyboppers are mobbing the streets for. Never heard of him.

My niece and nephew are watching The Wizard of Oz. Not right now. Last night, and they'll finish it tonight. What a classic! I've seen it about a hundred times. Probably more than that. Scary, though. Those flying monkeys freak me out. Not like my little tiny monkey, Sasha. She doesn't scare me at all.

Numbers

Here's the skinny!
  1. Sasha is five weeks old today! Which, as you know, means she turned one month old this past.
  2. My sister and her two kiddies just got here today. Hoorah for familials in town.
  3. My baby girl is sitting quietly letting my blog. She's able to chill in her bouncy chair for sometimes up to 30 minutes all by her self. What a treat.
  4. I am particularly tired today, as little missy thought 30 minute intervals were enough for her to snooze. Not enough! Not nearly enough!
  5. My five year old nephew is chilling on the couch watching Scooby Doo.
  6. Well, he turns five in just a few days.
  7. We celebrated (celebrated?) eight years in NYC on Sunday, August 1st. Eight years! We went and had a beer at a very special place. You'll never guess where. Okay, I'll tell you, it was the Hot Bird.
  8. Sasha met a bunch of new friends this past weekend: Ruby and Joaquin, the Bobers, and then today met her Auntie and two cousins.
  9. Tried many hot dogs at the Fifth annual Hot Dog Cookoff. I don't exactly know how many, but there were many, many hot dogs tried. I think my favorite was the "Sanchize" even though its named after Mark Sanchez.
