This morning (41 weeks today) I am making a few calls. Calling to schedule yet another sonogram and calling Aetna to try to get them to cover acupuncture.
So far, the following has occured. The sonogram place has a message playing: "Your call cannot go through. Please call back." Then a series of numbers. It sort of sounds like the french woman on LOST with the distress call repeating for sixteen years.
Then, I called AETNA one of the worst organizations on the planet and they keep disconnecting me because their office hours are from 8am until 6pm. Dudes. It's 10am.
Also, apparently it's not officially a heat wave because it has to reach 90 three days in a row. It was 87 yesterday with high, high humidity and will get to 90 today. Guess the buddy doesn't like the heat. Neither does his/her mama. I'm sort of trapped indoors at this point. Babe says that's what you're supposed to do with pregnant women. Keep em inside. Nice.
BFF tells me it is Let It Go day. I'm telling that to my cervix. My body has a hard time letting things go. This is true. Talk to me about the 10 pounds I gained after I quit smoking 5 years ago.
I should turn on soccer so I can be patriotic.
Babe told me he's going to get a Vuvuzela for the labor and delivery room. If I ever go into labor that is.
Today I decided to take it easy. Not go anywhere (I mean I went to the doctor in Manhattan this morning), not try to do anything. I've tried being super active and that hasn't helped for anything. Maybe this baby wants me to chill.
Either way, little buddy takes after his/her parents. I'm always late, and Babe is super mellow and not so much in a hurry.
So, as soon as you go over your due date you have to have a sonogram. Even if you just had one. They want to make sure everything is okay and that the buddy can hang out where s/he is for awhile longer.
So we went yesterday and saw the buddy. Chilling hard. We saw him/her take a giant yawn, toss us a wave, then go back to bed. Seriously. S/he had a beach blanket, a boom box and a cold beverage. Not. Going. Anywhere.
Dear ole Dad! Have a good father's day! I wish I could be there with you to hopefully make you laugh like this. I hope you have a great day!! I'll see you soon enough, though, and then you'll be able to meet my BABY. I mean she/he has to get here by then!!
Happy almost father's day to Babe, too!!!! We're so close buddy!!!
I feel like a million bucks today. I was sort of grouchy yesterday, you might have been able to tell. I feel great today though. *** Yesterday after work, Babe and I went for a nice walk to the Black Swan over on Lafayette and Bedford. What a pretty bar. They had lots of beer on tap, I didn't have any, but what I did have was a kick ass burger with delicious grilled onions on it. A little expensive for Bedford and Lafayette, but really worth it. Watched the Yanks lose it to a 47 year old pitcher. 47?! I guess he knows what works. Plus AJ Burnett laid a goose egg. *** My buddy is a little pumpkin today. It does look like I've swallowed a pumpkin. *** We have a new computadora - a macbook! So now I can skype with you or do ichat with video. Then you can see my big giant tummy now and my baby soon. *** Newsy!
I bet eventually I would get lonesome and tired of this, but for this week, for now, working from home is like the best thing that's ever happened to me. It's all breezy and nice outside, and it's coming in through the windows. I am working on budget and excel sheets - from my couch.
I've got my feet up and my Yankees cup full of water. It's really nice.
If I still haven't give birth by next week, though, I might be begging to go back!
Babe and I holding it together pretty well during this waiting game period. I mean pretty well. I now understand why they tell you not to tell anyone your due date, because people won't stop asking. I can no longer call, text, or even email my friends without them thinking it is some sort of birth announcement. Really? It's not even my due date. Anyways, that's not the point of this post. The point is that about a week ago, when we got real close, we both started quietly freaking out.
Like all of a sudden The Healthy Pregnancy was back off the book shelf as I started to read about the last few weeks of being pregnant. We started buying lots of things. Like a Mac computer. We almost bought a $400 vacuum. Our house couldn't be any cleaner. Anytime something happens (and lots of things happen in the end - I won't go into detail), Babe picks up a rag and starts cleaning another part of the house.
You can pretty much find us like that now, when we're home. I'll be reading something about pregnancy, he'll be cleaning, or we'll be shopping online.
Decided to work from home for this last week, two weeks, one day, who knows, until I have my baby. It's really nice to not have to rush out of here in the morning all 39 1/2 weeks pregnant!
Went to Hot Bird only one time.
Went to Yoga twice.
Watched several futbol matches on TV and one out at a bar. The whole of Brooklyn is watching soccer right now - might as well join in! Plus, those soccer players are incredibly good looking!
Went to happy hour on Friday night at Amity Hall right on 3rd street. Nice spot, but has potential to be sort of douchey. Sorry about that word.
Took it pretty easy yesterday afternoon. I sleep maybe one or two hours uninterrupted so I get sleepy. It's cuz I have a gigantic belly. Hee!
Watched Babe decorate our "nursery" which is one wall in our bedroom. It's so cute, you guys! It has photos of all of our friends and family who don't live on this coast, so the baby can know all of you even though you won't be here.
I was on the train yesterday reading over a woman's shoulder, when I saw a familiar face! Every week NY Magazine has a feature called the Look Book where they have a page size picture of some new yorker wearing a particularly interesting outfit.
Only went to Hot Birdone time, not two. We brought our own hot dogs to grill and they were freakin delicious.
Went to this neat little spot for tacos called The Loading Dock. It's over on Tillary across the street from the McDonald's that's been shut down for a while. I had one carne asada taco and one tamale with cheese and chiles. Go there. It was good.
Then, I stuck my feet in my friend's pool. The pool is a darling little lap pool, all covered in white and blue tiles and about four feet deep. I wish I had such a pool.
I went to yoga twice which beats last weekend when I went only once!
I went to brunch at General Greene with four of my girl friends and that was very fun, except the staff at the General Greene is super uptight. The food is good though.
Watched the first Iron Man, which was pretty good. Now we can go see the second one. I'm exclusively watching movies that feature Robert Downy Jr. a
I was leaving for the summer or something, that's how busy things are.
I'm super excited to meet my little buddy! Me and Babe nested yesterday.
I just have a small list of 18 things to do before I give birth. 18. As if. More than that.
What a random and somewhat boring week for the ole blog. I apologize people. I've just been sort of nonstop at work.
Oooh, but I have been doing acupuncture. That's interesting, right? Getting needles stuck into me to get my chi flowing. Holler. It works really well - I had a crazy hip pain that wouldn't quit, and has basically quit b/c of the acupuncture.
