Twilight Zone

This morning (41 weeks today) I am making a few calls. Calling to schedule yet another sonogram and calling Aetna to try to get them to cover acupuncture.

So far, the following has occured. The sonogram place has a message playing: "Your call cannot go through. Please call back." Then a series of numbers. It sort of sounds like the french woman on LOST with the distress call repeating for sixteen years.

Then, I called AETNA one of the worst organizations on the planet and they keep disconnecting me because their office hours are from 8am until 6pm. Dudes. It's 10am.

Also, apparently it's not officially a heat wave because it has to reach 90 three days in a row. It was 87 yesterday with high, high humidity and will get to 90 today. Guess the buddy doesn't like the heat. Neither does his/her mama. I'm sort of trapped indoors at this point. Babe says that's what you're supposed to do with pregnant women. Keep em inside. Nice.

Misc. Items

  • BFF tells me it is Let It Go day. I'm telling that to my cervix. My body has a hard time letting things go. This is true. Talk to me about the 10 pounds I gained after I quit smoking 5 years ago.
  • I should turn on soccer so I can be patriotic.
  • Babe told me he's going to get a Vuvuzela for the labor and delivery room. If I ever go into labor that is.
  • Today I decided to take it easy. Not go anywhere (I mean I went to the doctor in Manhattan this morning), not try to do anything. I've tried being super active and that hasn't helped for anything. Maybe this baby wants me to chill.
  • I got The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo so I can read it, since everyone else has.
  • The good thing about waiting this long to go into labor is I'm no longer scared in any way. I mean I might be when it actually happens but I have no fear now. Let's just get her done people.

Either way, little buddy takes after his/her parents. I'm always late, and Babe is super mellow and not so much in a hurry.

So, as soon as you go over your due date you have to have a sonogram. Even if you just had one. They want to make sure everything is okay and that the buddy can hang out where s/he is for awhile longer.

So we went yesterday and saw the buddy. Chilling hard. We saw him/her take a giant yawn, toss us a wave, then go back to bed. Seriously. S/he had a beach blanket, a boom box and a cold beverage. Not. Going. Anywhere.

This weekend:
  1. I went to yoga twice.
  2. I went to Hot Bird twice. Once for a 30 year old birthday party, one for slightly older.
  3. I watched four episodes for Friday Night Lights my new favorite show.
  4. Answered about a million people's questions as to when my little buddy is going to make an appearance.
  5. Walked around quite a bit, even though it's like 90 degrees.
  6. Slept a total of about three hours last night.

Due Date!

Happy due date, people!

I feel like a million bucks today. I was sort of grouchy yesterday, you might have been able to tell. I feel great today though.
Yesterday after work, Babe and I went for a nice walk to the Black Swan over on Lafayette and Bedford. What a pretty bar. They had lots of beer on tap, I didn't have any, but what I did have was a kick ass burger with delicious grilled onions on it. A little expensive for Bedford and Lafayette, but really worth it. Watched the Yanks lose it to a 47 year old pitcher. 47?! I guess he knows what works. Plus AJ Burnett laid a goose egg.
My buddy is a little pumpkin today. It does look like I've swallowed a pumpkin.
We have a new computadora - a macbook! So now I can skype with you or do ichat with video. Then you can see my big giant tummy now and my baby soon.

Working from Home

I bet eventually I would get lonesome and tired of this, but for this week, for now, working from home is like the best thing that's ever happened to me. It's all breezy and nice outside, and it's coming in through the windows. I am working on budget and excel sheets - from my couch.

I've got my feet up and my Yankees cup full of water. It's really nice.

If I still haven't give birth by next week, though, I might be begging to go back!

Freakin out

Babe and I holding it together pretty well during this waiting game period. I mean pretty well. I now understand why they tell you not to tell anyone your due date, because people won't stop asking. I can no longer call, text, or even email my friends without them thinking it is some sort of birth announcement. Really? It's not even my due date. Anyways, that's not the point of this post. The point is that about a week ago, when we got real close, we both started quietly freaking out.

Like all of a sudden The Healthy Pregnancy was back off the book shelf as I started to read about the last few weeks of being pregnant. We started buying lots of things. Like a Mac computer. We almost bought a $400 vacuum. Our house couldn't be any cleaner. Anytime something happens (and lots of things happen in the end - I won't go into detail), Babe picks up a rag and starts cleaning another part of the house.

You can pretty much find us like that now, when we're home. I'll be reading something about pregnancy, he'll be cleaning, or we'll be shopping online.

Unless, of course, we're at the Hot Bird. Ha!

Monday, June 14, 2010

Since we last chatted, I:
  1. Decided to work from home for this last week, two weeks, one day, who knows, until I have my baby. It's really nice to not have to rush out of here in the morning all 39 1/2 weeks pregnant!
  2. Went to Hot Bird only one time.
  3. Went to Yoga twice.
  4. Watched several futbol matches on TV and one out at a bar. The whole of Brooklyn is watching soccer right now - might as well join in! Plus, those soccer players are incredibly good looking!
  5. Went to happy hour on Friday night at Amity Hall right on 3rd street. Nice spot, but has potential to be sort of douchey. Sorry about that word.
  6. Took it pretty easy yesterday afternoon. I sleep maybe one or two hours uninterrupted so I get sleepy. It's cuz I have a gigantic belly. Hee!
  7. Watched Babe decorate our "nursery" which is one wall in our bedroom. It's so cute, you guys! It has photos of all of our friends and family who don't live on this coast, so the baby can know all of you even though you won't be here.

Haiku Friday

Happy Friday, all.
Let's just take a minute here
to celebrate it.

It's the weekend, peeps.
You can sleep if you want to.
You can do laundry.

You can do yoga,
or go work out. Or just go.
Whatever you want.

Because of the sandwich porn on the NY Magazine website, we've been plotting a lunch time field trip to Brooklyn to check out Mile End for it's delicious sandwiches.

Our field trip plans were foiled because of work (as they so often are), but we decided to order in from Defonte's, which has just opened up a shop here in NYC.

Me and another person shared: #24 The Dino (a meatball sandwich) and #21 Potatoes and Eggs with Mozzarella and Ham.

I am happy. And full. And my baby is kickin like crazy.

Read this, it's funny
. It's about how a sandwich makes you it's bitch.

Conversation with Babe

  • Cod: Babe, our old neighbor Ilona was in the Look Book!
  • Babe: What is the Look Book?
  • Cod: Babe! It's in NY Magazine.
  • Babe: I don't read NY Magazine.
  • Cod: You should, Babe.
  • Babe: But, you hate it.
  • Cod: Oh. Well. That's true.

in stripes may appear larger than they actually are???

I was on the train yesterday reading over a woman's shoulder, when I saw a familiar face! Every week NY Magazine has a feature called the Look Book where they have a page size picture of some new yorker wearing a particularly interesting outfit.

Anyways! I saw my old upstairs neighbor, Ilona Smithkin!

When we used to live on W. 12th St., this tiny little lady lived right upstairs from Babe and me. She had lived in the building since the 50s, in this tiny little studio.

She was such a nice tiny neighbor! I'm so glad to see that she is still doing her thing, making art and teaching people all over the place.

Things I've Been Doing Lately

  • Going to Hot Bird.
  • Eating lots of cherries.
  • Working kind of a lot.
  • Enjoying the beautiful spring weather.
  • Watching Yankees baseball when they are on. Last night I watched the Phillies lose to the Padres. That was nice.
  • Making food for now and for when the BABY comes.
  • Lots of yoga.
  • Talking with my familials when possible.
  • Thinking about things I need to get done before the baby comes.
  • Waiting for the baby.
  • Thinking of girl's names because I think we figured out a boy name!!!!
  • Getting my office ready to move to a new building.
  • Drinking lots of water.
  • Making lots of lists.
  • Still doing thank you cards.
  • Buying lots of items. Is this nesting? If so, bring it.
  • Going pee. Sorry, but it's true.

This unseasonably hot weekend, I:
  1. Only went to Hot Bird one time, not two. We brought our own hot dogs to grill and they were freakin delicious.
  2. Went to this neat little spot for tacos called The Loading Dock. It's over on Tillary across the street from the McDonald's that's been shut down for a while. I had one carne asada taco and one tamale with cheese and chiles. Go there. It was good.
  3. Then, I stuck my feet in my friend's pool. The pool is a darling little lap pool, all covered in white and blue tiles and about four feet deep. I wish I had such a pool.
  4. I went to yoga twice which beats last weekend when I went only once!
  5. I went to brunch at General Greene with four of my girl friends and that was very fun, except the staff at the General Greene is super uptight. The food is good though.
  6. Watched the first Iron Man, which was pretty good. Now we can go see the second one. I'm exclusively watching movies that feature Robert Downy Jr. a

Haiku Friday

Beautiful summer
Here in New York City.
Not a lot of those.

Usually it gets
way too humid way too fast.
Thank God it's not though.

Watermelon is
current food of choice these days.
Come have some of mine.

Thursday, June 03, 2010

You'd think

  • I was leaving for the summer or something, that's how busy things are.
  • I'm super excited to meet my little buddy! Me and Babe nested yesterday.
  • I just have a small list of 18 things to do before I give birth. 18. As if. More than that.
  • What a random and somewhat boring week for the ole blog. I apologize people. I've just been sort of nonstop at work.
  • Oooh, but I have been doing acupuncture. That's interesting, right? Getting needles stuck into me to get my chi flowing. Holler. It works really well - I had a crazy hip pain that wouldn't quit, and has basically quit b/c of the acupuncture.

Numbers - many days later!

Geez. Since we last chatted, I:
  1. Have walked five hundred miles. Not really, but it sorta feels like that when you're 37 1/2 weeks pregnant. Went to the following four places: Franklin Park Beer Garden, Washington Commons, Hot Bird, and Mission Dolores.
  2. Went to Hot Bird twice! What a great spot. Right on my street, outdoors.
  3. Hung out with Babe for three workless days in a row. HOORAY.
  4. Watched one movie - Sherlock Holmes. What a terrific flick! Check it out if you haven't seen it already.
  5. Had a cheeseburger at a new spot on Franklin called Dutch Boy. That was delicious. Had one of the best milkshakes I've ever had in my life.
  6. I've been reading this article: The 101 Best Sandwiches in NYC. Go, click the link. You won't be sorry but you will be starving.
