Snow Pics

Babe took this one of Fifth Avenue this afternoon.
This is the view outside my window about 30 minutes ago.

Haiku Friday

Another snow day.
Old man winter, I love you!
Bring it on, baby!

Too bad Babe's work hates
to let people stay home warm.
Instead, they love cold.

My list for today
is long and awesome. Laundry,
buffy, work emails.

Christopher Walken

Babe and I went to see Christopher Walken on Broadway last Friday, in A Behanding in Spokane. It was written by Irish playwright Martin McDonagh, his first play set in America.

The NY Times focuses on Walken's role in the play and it's a quick and good read. If you love Christopher Walken like I do. He looks kinda old and beat up in this play, and his character is kind of old and beat up by life. He's a man in his sixties, who years ago had his hand cut off by a bunch of hillbillies, and has spent the last 47 years searching for it.

It's vulgar, and the language is SO BAD, but Babe and I laughed so hard for literally the whole time. It was well worth the money for the ticket.

Things I noticed

Watch with Kristin

Claire's lost it people. Lost it.

I never watch Family Guy, so I only hear about these things from other people, but this is kind of hilarious dude. Especially if you love the AHA video it features.

Numbers - for real this time!

Since we last chatted, I:
  1. Went and saw a hilarious play on Broadway. A Behanding in Spokane with Christopher Walken. I'll tell you more about it later in the week. I've seen about a million concerts and at least twenty Broadway shows, but only two plays in NYC. This one was incredible!
  2. Went to dinner at one of our favorite spots, from when we used to live in Hell's Kitchen. Afghan Kebab House on 9th Avenue is just totally delicious.
  3. Went to pregnant lady yoga on Fifth and Sackett in Park Slope.
  4. Went to brunch at Taqueria De Los Muertos - yah, that's the 2nd time in two weeks.
  5. Yesterday, hosted three events for work. One - a speech by the mayor. Two - a roundtable of 75 people. Three - a reception. Everything went great.
  6. Reread a couple more Sookie Stackhouse books.
  7. Yesterday, went with work peeps to the Blind Tiger Ale House and witnessed something I'd never seen before - a Double Sixpoint Sweet Action. Sixpoint came up with this to celebrate their fifth anniversary. Obviously, I didn't partake. Just witnessed and salivated over.

Numbers ...

Will have to wait! Doing a big conference at work today - well little conference, but the mayor will be here in a little bit so I have no time to tell you about my beautiful weekend. Boo!

See you in a bit.

Haiku Friday

Forgot to tell you,
I lost a bet last weekend.
A foolhardy bet.

Celeb trivia
against Ruby? You crazy.
Lost a whole dollar.

How many times were
Rob & Amber on the Race?
I got it wrong, yo.

Also, it continues to blow me away that our first apartment, Babe's and Mine, in NYC, is continually featured in the gossip mags as a site of interest! Look guys! A lot of you have been there.

(Thanks for the forward, DB.)

Have you guys been watching? We have! Babe hearts the olympics, as you know from years past. Thank god for DVR b/c then I can fast forward Bob Costas. There are so many commercials, too! Last night was the best night so far, with Shaun White being totally ridiculous at snowboarding and blowing everyone on the planet's minds.

Did you watch it?

Also, we watched the women's downhill skiing which is death defying.

Some people have a shit load of time on their hands. Scuse my french. This girl from high school, who I don't even really know, is scanning the entire yearbook and putting it on facebook. Why? Seriously. Why? Doesn't everyone have a yearbook?

Granted, my yearbook is in my parent's garage so I haven't seen it in years, though I flipped through BFF's probably about .... however many years since she lived in Northridge!

In any case, I thought you'd get a kick out of this. I was voted "most individualistic" in high school, along with Brian Christian, and here's the photo. Also featured on facebook. WTF.

Since we last chatted, I:
  1. Booked a trip on the BoltBus to Phillie. It will be Babe's and my 3rd trip to Phillie.
  2. Checked out two new spots to eat - spent my winnings from the superbowl pool! One was Mike's Coffee Shop on Dekalb. This hole in the wall usually has a line out the door. We went early enough to avoid the line - and to make the breakfast special, which was griddle cakes, plus sausage and the smallest glass of OJ I've ever seen for about $6.00. Yum. We also checked out Taqueria de Los Muertos, which was delicious. I mean really really excellent. You guys know I'm always on a quest for good Mexican food and this place delivered. Let's go!
  3. We had a fun ol game night/pot luck where about 10 of us played celebrity and pass the pigs. 10 person pass the pigs!! Tremendous!
  4. Took the day off yesterday and had myself a wee Buffy marathon where I watched about 4 or 5 episodes.
  5. Reread one or two Sookie Stackhouse books.
  6. Watched a lot of Winter 2010 Olympics on our giant flatscreen.

Haiku Friday

I love survivor.
Twenty seasons. It doesn't
get old, just better.

Rough day/week at work.
Nothing some mindless TV
won't happily cure.

Three day weekend. YAY!
Friends in town from DC, plus
Valentine's Day. Neat.

Coffee, Giant Apple Pancakes, and LOST

I think I used to title posts like this "Misc. Items" which makes a little bit more sense.
I've been thinking about coffee lately b/c I stopped drinking it when I found out I was WITH CHILD. One does not have to stop drinking coffee when they find out they are WITH CHILD, so if you still drink it and you are knocked up don't worry, I am not judging you. But I stopped drinking it because I figured it's a drug and why not use this opportunity to quit yet another drug? In any case, I don't drink caffeine anymore and I sleep much better. I probably sleep much better anyways because I am WITH CHILD and growing that baby takes a lot of energy.

Man, I digress.

Sometimes on Saturday, I have a cup of coffee. Just one cup. And then, guess what? I can't sleep Saturday night and feel like I have a hangover on Sunday. Can you believe it? I guess I never knew what I was doing to myself with the coffee in general, though surely I had built up a tolerance level that is now gone (as is my tolerance for everything, I imagine. How hard I worked building that up!)

So no more Saturday cups of joe for me either. Because then I can't sleep on Saturday night. And I feel all sad and mushy on Sunday.
The other day BON made an Apple Crisp to bring over to watch the superbowl. The apple crumg wasn't watching the superbowl, it was for us to eat while we watched the superbowl. She used a recipe I found on Mona's site. Thank's Mona!

Anyways, since then, and since my CSA filled my kitchen with apples, that is all I want to eat.

So yesterday, I decided I wanted to make a Giant Apple Pancake for dinner. Google Giant Apple Pancake and here is what you get. I made that guys recipe and it was totally delicious. Mine was way poofier than his picture shows and really quite complex and delicious. We still have some, so if you want leftovers, come on over.
How good is LOST? Though this last episode super pissed me off b/c those new other others don't say much do they? Anyways, here's some reading material for you if you'd like to get some inside skinny:

Hangover Movie

I've been singing this song since Saturday. This movie is just too hilarious for me. If you haven't seen it, it's gross. But funny.

Monday, February 08, 2010

Since we last chatted, I:
  • Went out to dinner with pals to Snack Taverna on Bedford and Seventh Avenue South. The space was darling, the company was excellent and the food was pretty good. I particularly enjoyed the spanakopita which was fresh and limey and delicious.
  • Took my first prenatal yoga class on Saturday. It was a 25 minute walk from my house, on 5th and Sackett in Park Slope. It was super awesome and I loved it and I want to do it every day.
  • Went out to Sushi D on Dekalb for the first time, with Husband Babe, on Saturday night. Had a nice ramen soup.
  • Went for a walk on Sunday. It was beautiful outside but probably about 10 degrees. Literally walked into Walgreen's just to warm up.
  • Had a couple people over for the superbowl. Made two different kinds of wings - one hot, one not. They were both well received. Ate a delicious Apple Crumb Cake that contained five pounds of apples. YUM.
  • Oh yah! And I watched The Hangover which is one of the funniest movies ever.

Haiku Friday

Salon yesterday -
Marco: "Don't want to keep you
waiting - miss happy

hour." To which I
answered back, "I got Knocked up!"
Everyone: "Hooray!"

Went home, watched Twilight.
Used to go out after my
haircuts. Show it off.

Old Standby

Dude, we used to eat this when I was a kid. It has no name, but for now we'll call it:

The Sausage Casserole
  • Macaroni (but truth be told, you an use any kind of shaped pasta. Penne, fusili. Wheat, white, doesn't matter)
  • Sausage (breakfast sausage, italian hot sausage, any kind of sausage really)
  • Cheese (cheddar is the old standby, but you can also use any kind you have in the fridge)
  • Tomato Soup (when I was a kid, this was Campbell's, now I use Amy's Organic)
Make the noodles, heat up the sausage. Mix everything together and toss it in a covered casserole for 20 or 25 minutes at 375.

My coworker

is obsessed with this show. He thinks this video is pretty funny. What do you think? Incidentally, it's the most popular TV show in the world.

(I beg to differ, seeing as LOST started last night. Amazing. We'll talk later.)

Tuesday, February 02, 2010

Finally, you guys! It's all happening. I'm pretty stolked on it and hope it's good. This episode is called LAX part I - what does that mean?! Will Jack's little trick have worked? Were they blown back into the past and no crash ever occurred?

This is the last season, so all of you who don't watch LOST you only have to live with it for a few more months. Then, you'll never have to hear about smoke monsters, body snatchers, or Jack and Kate and Sawyer ever again.

Since we last chatted, I:
  1. Went out after work with my work peeps to one of my favorite bars - The Stoned Crow. I was encouraging my friends to drink Six Point Sweet Action, even though I do not partake myself. Why, you might ask? Because I fear they will go out of business without my support! Ha!
  2. Took two long walks, one on Sat and one on Sunday. It was so cold on Saturday, so it was only about 45 minutes, but the on one Sunday was twice as long.
  3. Watched two movies on TV: He's Just Not that into You and Yes Men. Both pretty dang funny.
  4. Took it super duper easy. I mean really. Watched TV, played Wii, read a new book. Made one item - blueberry dessert!
  5. Talked for at least three hours on the phone.
  6. Worked for about two hours.
  7. Finished season two of Mad Men. That show is SO GOOD.
