Best Week Ever

I've stolen a picture from BFF's flickr photo stream for today's blog. Check it out, for a good time.

In any case, Indian people are having the best week ever. As Hung points out in the comment yesterday, with Slumdog cleaning up at the Oscar's and Bobby Jindal becoming a household name, Indians are on a roll. How many Indian friends do you have? Congratulate them! If you don't have any Indian friends you can count me as one. Or, just walk up to a random Indian on the street and pat them on the back!

Blah Blah Blah

I've been dreaming about being a bad bridesmaid - no make-up, falling on the way down the altar. Random, huh?
***
Jessicurl - are you over me? Why won't you call me back?
***
Bobby Jindal is the Republican Barack Obama, huh? Not all brown people are the same, guys.
***
It was so nice to watch the president's speech last night. It was the first time I've sat through an entire speech in eight years. I couldn't stomach Bush for longer than the first five minutes, or the first smirk, whichever came first. And the First Lady is one of my heroes.
***
Although I am not religious (in fact, I am actively not religious, by choice) I am giving up Candy and Beer for Lent this year. In solidarity with BFF, who is getting married in about three months. I like to be a hot bridesmaid, you know.

Sleep

Dude, I have been having a hard time sleeping of late. I couldn't sleep a wink on Sunday night and then last night I was awake from 12 - 2:30 am. Man oh man. Makes my coping skills low.
***
I'm behind on my TV shows.
***
Work is still super hard. I mean it's not terrible. It's just hard. I have too many things to do and too little time. Do you feel sorry for me? Thanks.
***
My nail polish is chipped and now I look trashy. I wish I could hit the reset button on this day.

Numbers

Well, since we last chatted, I:
  • Had fifteen people over to watch the Oscars. Served them five pounds of chicken, six cups of couscous, and a pound or two of broccoli rabe. Hahahaha. We went through four bottles of champagne, half of one cake and part of one cheesecake, two baguettes, one hot feta artichoke dip, and other edibles.
  • Took it pretty easy all the way around. Had a nice dinner at The Smoke Joint with Babe and two friends.
  • Slept late on Saturday. Took a walk with Babe. Had two (or three) beers at Rope on Saturday night. Six Point Sweet Action, you are going to be the death of my waistline!
  • Hosted a pool for the Oscar's, where the same gal who has won for three years in a row won again!

Haiku Friday

Sorry I'm late, guys.
Took some comp time this A.M.
For my sanity.

It's been a great month.
Lots of work to do, lots of
good stuff in the works.

Visitors coming,
Anniversaries, weddings,
All happening soon!

Frank Lupitas!

Man, LOST is so good. Last night was the best one all season long. No details, I promise. But it was so good, right?
***
Got mad peeps coming to visit this year. I'm so excited. It's been awhile.
***
Working with budgets and grant proposals today. Oh boy.
***
I had to have my husband measure me this morning for a bridesmaid dress that I need to order. He's so sweet. He said you have an hourglass figure, babe. Heehee. So cute. My giant hourglass.

Aw, man!

  • I think I might not have a chance to blog today as I've got meetings all day.
  • It snowed this morning.
  • I forgot to ask you what you did for Valentine's Day. Me and Babe made a funny and nice dinner at home. It was funny because we made filet mignon with a balsamic reduction sauce and the balsamic reduced to a candy like substance. And we burned the potatoes.
  • I have so much work to do but it all feels so great because I've not had a chance to just sit at my desk and work for the past several weeks.

Train Rage

This morning, I was late to a meeting. I took a new route to work b/c I had to get to 22nd and Park Ave. What a random location. Any-ways. Took the G to the L and had to wait for five yes five L trains to go by before I could get on one.

Furious, thy name is Codfish.

I'm back, by the way. The conference was amazing.

Numbers

I have, since the last time I saw you:
  • Slept a lot. Including today, day 3 of a 3 day weekend.
  • Gave out twenty transformers to my team at work, as a funny way of saying thank you for our conference. (Because the word transforming was in the title).
  • Read one book.
  • Watched two episodes of America's Best Dance Crew (Beat Freaks all the way), one episode of 30 Rock, and two of Big Love.
  • Checked out three bars in my neighborhood - the secret speakeasy one behind the Sushi place on DeKalb, the new one, Brooklyn Public House and Kif. The new one is nice, but was way too crowded.
  • Had a beautiful Valentine's dinner at home with Babe and Fondue for Two. Hee.
  • Got my life back, after being under water for the past two weeks.

Haiku What a Gorgeous Day Friday

So far, pretty great.
Except that my nail polish
Is starting to chip.

Otherwise, it's good.
High falutin speakers and
Sort of awesome guests.

Thank god for three days,
This weekend will be blissful.
Hope you enjoy yours.

Pins and Sensors

Today is day one of the two day conference. Wish me luck people!
***
Last night, there was a melee outside of my apartment. At 4:05 a.m. a group of what sounded like 20 men started shouting and yelling. Oh for crying out loud. I kept waiting to hear the police, but clearly so was everyone else! They never came. I found earplugs and fell back asleep.
***
Babe told me winds were supposed to reach 50 miles today. Today? Or yesterday? I don't know. Either way, it's hella windy.
***
I'm sure I should be making name tags or hauling boxes, but I'm snot. I'm just chilling. Drinking coffee and waiting.

Ipod

Babe got me an ipod, did I tell you? It looks just like this little fella on the right. Except cooler because it's real and not a picture.

It has changed my life. I used to have this ghetto tiny little ipod shuffle. Now, now I can choose my music. This morning I listened to Face to Face Live and Fiona Apple Extraordinary Machine. It's just so awesome to be able to choose my songs. I know, welcome to the 21st Century, right?

What did you listen to on your way to work this morning?

Things I thought of this morning on my way to work

"Recession, Babe!" is what Babe and I say to each other all the time now, when we're deciding what to do or talking about what to buy. We made a list of our various expenses coming up this year and I must say, those words came up quite a bit...I think He's Just Not That Into You looks funny and I think a lot of people secretly do, too...I've been working on a shower for one of the weddings this year (in June in PA) and one of the women suggested a International themed tea party. She said, "So tea & tea cakes (England and other former Eng colonies, like India)." That struck me as kind of funny - isn't India more than just a former English colony? Wasn't it a colony for say maybe 200 years and a country for at least a couple thousand? I'm just asking the questions here people. And didn't Indian people drink tea way before English people did? Wikipedia says yes....I feel pretty good about myself. I've been working my ass off and been keeping in touch with my familials and also having a good time. I haven't been to the gym in ages, though...That's all I could fit into thirty-five minutes.

Monday, February 09, 2009

Numbers

Since I last saw you, I:
  • Had dinner at the new ethernopian place on Fulton, and waited one hour to eat there.
  • Had brunch at Apt. 138 on Smith St.
  • Had drinks out at Puffy's at 81 Hudson.
  • Read two books.
  • Saw a friend I've known for fifteen years but hadn't seen in almost one.
  • Went to Walgreen's and saved five dollars.
  • Made a pot roast in my crock pot. It took eight hours.
  • Stayed out til four am, like I haven't done in a long time.
  • Went to Trader Joe's and got two bags of groceries.
  • Sent six Valentines.

Haiku Sorry I'm Late Friday

I had a meeting.
But now I'm back at my desk.
Thinking about lunch.

Have to show you guys
a video from dance crew
Randi, you'll love it.

They had a Britney
show. They all did Britney moves.
Even the boy crews.

SAVED

Got on the train this AM ready to read my little book and chill. Of course, I noticed my IPOD was out of juice too late and so I was music-less. Crazy preacher dude was shouting all the way to work this AM. All the way. Such little gems as: "Hey rich man! You on the train? Rich man, you're going to die." or "Ohhhhhhhh Miiiiiigggghhhhttttttyyyyyyy Goooooooodddddddddddddddd, I'm ready! I'm ready! I'm ready to die. Anyone on the train with a gun? Bring out your gun? I'm not afraid."

This is one of the first times I've heard people really assault the preacher right back. People (all women, I might add) were shouting back - "This car has already been saved, why don't you go to another fucking car!" or "Go fuck yourself, preacher man."

Good morning!

Cold feet

This is the first day of the year I decided to wear my converse to work. I was tired of my boots and there isn't any rain to justify galoshes. I'm wearing jeans, too, so no heels. So I wore my converse and it felt like I might as well have not been wearing shoes. What kind of sentence construction is that?
***
Tonight is LOST. I can't wait!
***
I haven't been sleeping well. At all. Like sometimes only four hours a night. It's rough and I don't look pretty. I hate that.
***
We're having the biggest conference we've ever planned here next Thursday and Friday. That's why I've been so absent lately. It's not that I don't love you. Cuz I do. Each and every one of you.

You're Welcome, America

Last night, Babe and I saw You're Welcome, America on Broadway. Will Ferrell is the funniest man alive. The show was just too good to be true - seriously. I want to say so many things but I have a meeting in five minutes.

Go see it. Seriously.

25 things about me

Forgive me, Facebook friends. You've already seen this. But BFF isn't on Facebook, so I can't tag her, so I have to post this here, too.

1. I love my apartment more than is reasonable. Really, it's just an apartment but I freaking love it. The view, the second bedroom, all of it. I call it a palatial estate.

2. I have a tendency to repeat myself.

3. I'm pretty OCD about certain things - books, for example. If I read one by an author I like, I immediately have to read all of them by that author. More often in not, in order.

4. Speaking of reading, I just finished the Twilight books for the third time. I am officially an adolescent.

5. When I was growing up, in Oxnard, California, I was the only Indian person I knew. Except my sisters. There was this other Indian chick, who I never met, called Johanna Lalama. People used to ask me if I was related to her. I'm not.

6. I have seen Pearl Jam in concert eleven times: in San Francisco, San Jose, Mountainview, Denver, Camden NJ and NYC. In 2008, I sat in the second row at Madison Square Garden and can still cry just thinking about it.

7. I dream a lot. And usually remember them.

8. I got married when I was 25 years old.

9. I've never been to New Orleans, but want to go. I've been to lots and lots of states in the U.S., though. Thanks mom and dad!

10. I wish I had a fur coat to wear this winter. I know, huh? I'm a monster.

11. My first concert was Lisa Lisa and the Cult Jam at the Ventura County Fair. I loved the song All Cried Out.

12. My first job was at Kinney shoe store in the mall. I couldn't hack it. Two weeks later, I started at Pizza Hut where I worked with a forty year old homie named Carmen who once threatened to kick my ass. Oh Carmen. You crazy bitch.

13. I can't believe how poorly the Cardinals are playing.

14. I love cooking.

15. I've never been on a cruise.

16. When I was a teenager, I drank a bottle of Southern Comfort with Kristina M. and will never drink it again. Ever. Not that anyone would ask me to.

17. I'm Indian and Indian. That means I've definitely seen Slumdog Millionaire. While eating Indian tacos.

18. I have a tendency to repeat things.

19. Every semester, I give a lecture about Bride's magazines to a bunch of undergraduates in Communications at NYU. None of them are ever married.

20. I used to be real religious. Taught Confirmation and everything. Thank you Nietzsche & Anne Rice.

21. I love DVR. Anything that allows me to fast forward through JC on America's Best Dance Crew is a genius invention.

22. I love Wisconsin. If you've never been, you should check it out.

23. I've had my blog for four years and think it's super fun.

24. Over the course of Jr. High, I smoked a carton of my Dad's 555 cigarettes, which he'd brought back from India, at the park around the corner. Me and Gabby, that is.

25. I'm going to see Will Ferrell's show on Broadway tomorrow and can't wait.

BFF: Go.
