Funny, funny, funny

Barack Obama's first 100 days in office according to his facebook status.

Killed it.

Taught a class this morning - a four hour seminar - on making effective presentations and I totally killed it. It's dead. People loved it, I loved it, and my faith in a potential career as a teacher/consultant/professor is back on top.

Now, I'm going to eat my veggie delight before I fall over.

My Very Own MeMe

You know, I've been thinking about these things lately and I've decided to write my own MeMe based on questions I usually ask people. Here goes. If you like it, answer the questions yourself.

1. How did you sleep last night?
I slept pretty good, but not enough of it. I woke up way before my alarm and couldn't go back to sleep.
2. How are you feeling today?
I'm okay, really, a little bit tired and I have a tiny headache.
3. What else is going on?
Not much, really. Just working and working and working and working and working and working.
4. How are your folks?
Mine are good, I just saw my Ma so that was nice but I haven't seen my dad since September and I really miss him.
5. What are you having for dinner tonight?
If Fresh Direct comes on time I'm going to make something good. If not, I'm going to eat canned green beans.
6. Who's your best friend?
7. Where are you from?
Oxnard, California

Hahaha, now I don't know about you guys, but that just cracks me up.

Dude, Babe and I headed out to Keshena, Wisconsin this past weekend to see my peeps. We got to check out a pow-wow whilst we were there and it was great. I'd like share a few videos with you but I'll need to tech support to figure out how to get them off of kodak share and into google video. Tech support? Are you out there?

Good Lord, it's beautiful here. I mean absolutely gorgeous. Yesterday was nice, too. today takes the cake. Skirt and bare legs out to the world. No tights. The hell you say!

Sat outside and drank a beer last night. I was going to give up beer until these various weddings I'm in, since I have to stand up in front of loads of people in form fitting dresses and a beer belly does not a good bridesmaid make. Yesterday, though, yesterday there was no denying a beer. No denying it.

Happy birthday to Nancy! Happy birthday to Joaquin, too!!!

What's going on here, people? I leave for one weekend and swine flu kills twenty people and the Yankees get swept by the Boston Red Sox! Jeeez!

Since I last saw you, I:
  • Took one much needed day off work, my first in five months.
  • Flew with Babe to see my Grama in Wisconsin, about three hours away.
  • Saw my Ma who I hadn't seen since September, seven months ago. I don't usually go that long without seeing my mother and I'll never do it again.
  • Gambled about ten dollars a day and lost them all.
  • Saw two uncles, two cousins, thee second cousins, one Grama, and several people to whom I am connected but not necessarily related.
  • Read two books.
  • Had all four of my flights depart on time or close to on time and got home on time. Go figure.
  • Missed the eighty degree weather in favor of the forty degree weather in Wisconsin. Yay.

Haiku Friday

Off to Wisconsin!
Gonna hang with my peeps, yo.
See ma and Grama.

Beautiful weekend.
Should be gorgeous in Brooklyn.
Same in the midwest?

Hope your days are great.
That you go outside and drink
lots and lots of beer.

Babe and I are off to see Grama this weekend. And my ma will be there, too. I'm really looking forward to it, as I haven't seen my mother since September. I do believe that is the longest I've ever gone. Too long.
Then its a wedding every weekend until June 10 basically.
I've got a variety of dresses being shipped to my work. I'm hoping each one of them fits perfectly and that the perfect shoes for each dress fall magically into my lap.
I'll need to book a hair cut, too.
And I'm teaching a class next week and doing a presentation out in Princeton New Jersery the day after.
Slept like a baby last night. Even if it was only for six hours it was still magical.
I'm hoping for magical sleep time in Wisconsin. It's a pretty magical place.
The Yankees won yesterday. That pleases me.

Every day!

I tell you, you learn something new every day. You really do. I just learned how to text blog. I'm telling you - we are going to have some fun.

What's new, you guys? I've been busy. Busy hanging out with old friends! One of my college roommates is in town with his lovely wife, also a friend of mine. She's going to be performing this week at the Joyce Theater. We're going on Thursday! Here's a link to her show. You should go. Apparently, if you can prove you are unemployed, tickets are only $19.00.

Lucky for me, I'm not unemployed.

I'd rather pay full price for a ticket.
Testing! Testing! Can I now blog from my blackberry via text message?

Numbers: Birthday Edition

Happy Birthday to Katherine, Solana, and some of the people I work with!
Now, on with the show! Since I last talked to you, I:
  • Went to the Brooklyn Wine Club on 119th Street in Harlem. Yah, you heard me.
  • Played a lot of two-player Guitar Hero.
  • Traveled by foot, MTA subway, and NJ Transit for three hours to get to a shower in Hawthorne, NJ.
  • On said trip, I carried with me: forty plates, napkins, and glasses. Four blocks of cheese, one jar of tapenade, one jar of fig spread, three baguettes, and two boxes of crackers. Did I mention it was seventy-five degrees?
  • Got one amazing blister.
  • Signed a new lease for move in on July 1st, 2009. The new apartment is on the 10th floor, just three blocks down from where I currently reside.
  • Finished one book and then re-read it.
  • Watched the Yankees finally win one, and was luckily out of town when they lost that terribly big one.

Happy Birthday Katherine!

Happy Birthday little Katherine!!
Isn't she getting so grown up??

Hey, Kid, are you mad at me?

Yesterday, I got a text that said that from a friend I haven't spoken to in a year (give or take). I hate moments like that because why? Why would I be mad?

I quickly logged onto my hotmail, which I don't use and never check, to see if maybe he had written me a few emails that I didn't respond to. Nein. No emails in the hotmail. Searched the gmail - maybe it had gone to spam? Nope.

Of course I texted back immediately - What?! No! Why?!

But this has happened to me before. I sometimes don't talk to people for a long time, but I'm almost never mad at them. I'm almost never mad at anybody. If I was mad at cha I'd definitely be talking to you, naamsayin?

Being that I live so far away from everyone, I try to keep in touch through the interweb and the ole facebook situation. Also, this blog, of course! It might not be good enough for some peeps.

I don't have a point to this story, really, just sharing.

I had this one friend for a long time when I was in college that I used to call Quinby. That was not his name. He was very cool and we had a really good time hanging out and working at the library together. We sort of lost touch and then re-connected at some point over the telephone. When I talked to him, he was furious with me! Thought that I was a no good friend who had left him out in the cold. I had no idea.

I hope that's not what's gonna happen with this fella who sent me that text.

(In case you think I'm a crazy passive aggresive person, he doesn't read this blog, so it's not like I'm talking to him w/o talking to him.)

Here we go again. I know it is to many a Californian's chagrin that I love the Yankees. And maybe other people, too. I know a few co-workers/New Yorkers who feel that way. But it's my blog and therefore you hear about the Yankees.

Last night we got home from Nina's around 10:30, turned on the game and the new first baseman Nick Swisher was pitching the game. And the score was 15-5. Oh, no. I wanted to turn it off but it was like a train wreck. I couldn't look away. Anyways, he was the best pitcher we had on the mound yesterday.

I never will understand Chien-Ming Wang.

Numbers: Easter Feaster edition

Since I last talked to you, I (along with Babe for many):
  • Had a dinner party for thirteen for Easter Feaster.
  • Made one ham.
  • Made sixteen deviled eggs.
  • Had thirty eggs decorated.
  • Slept about three hours last night - not because I stayed up late, just woke at five am and couldn't go back to sleep. Grrr!
  • Read one book.
  • Finished forty invitations for my mom and dad's fortieth. (That's really all Babe right there, but I stuck the stamps and a few other things.)
  • Talked to Jojo for her birthday on April 11.
  • Sent a birthday card to my Grama who is going to be ninety-four.
  • Played two-player guitar hero.

Haiku Friday

Happy Good Friday.
Lent is almost over, dudes!
Forty days - not bad.

Never ate candy -
Except for one time on Sunday.
Slipped more on the beer.

Felt good about it.
It wasn't too hard, really.
But I miss candy.

Tursty Tursday!

Sorry I'm so late, guys! I had a meeting up in the Bronx this a.m. Holler! It was so far. An hour on the D train, but such a nice ride!

I was a little under the weather earlier this week, but am feeling better now. I know how worried you must have been.

Easter Feaster at my house this Sunday! Egg decorating, candy eating, and all around malarkey. Yay for springtime!

Got a new Wii game - Legends of Rock Guitar Hero. It's so fun!! Rock you like a hurricane?! OKAY!

What a scattered blog post. Sometimes it might be better just to skip a day, but really? Disappoint all my fans?! No way!

It's snowing!

How can it be snowing? It's April.
Speaking of April, it's Babe's and my 13th anniversary today!

April 8, 1996 me and Babe started going out!

That was my overall and doc martin phase, with quite a bit of stripey tights and dark make-up thrown it.

It was his billabong hat and still somewhat short hair + braces and airwalks. Hee.

My thoughts on Gwen Stefani

As I was playing Guitar Hero last night, I got to thinking about Gwen Stefani. I knew you'd be very interested to hear my thoughts, so here they are:
  • Overall, I like her.
  • I think she's hot but not pretty.
  • I like her fashion sense but also think sometimes her clothes are terrible.
  • I like that she is tall.
  • I like that she was the girl in a band full of boys.
  • I like her make up and that she is always done up.
  • I like that she writes her own songs.
  • I like that she wrote a whole album about getting dumped by her boyfriend, and he was in the band so had to play them all.
  • I don't think she can sing.

Monday, April 06, 2009

Since we last chatted, I:
  • Went to Otto for dinner. Which in Italian means eight.
  • Had my first baseball hot dog of the season. It was a foot long. Twelve inches of hotdog and 500 calories. Totally delicious. Was at the new Mets stadium and it was freezing. They got killed by the hated Red Sox.
  • Watched some of the Final Four at Frank's Lounge. Rad.
  • Went to a beautiful bridal shower about one and a half hours south on the Jersey shore.
  • Read one book! Yay! I'm back!
  • Have a bunch of Six Points again. I think I've invoked the Sunday rule at least three weeks in a row, and each time a different day of the week.

Haiku Friday

Michelle touched the queen.
Off with her head! Oh, the horror!
Maybe she's poison?

Rainy April day.
So happy to be busy.
Lots of work to do.

Bed and breakfast closed?
Where are my out of towners?
Guest room is empty.

Other people's pictures

Sick picture Sashie took of the bridge from the bridge.
Me and Babe at Barcade. We were briefly the most photographed couple in Brooklyn.
Babe and Sashie. Awwww.
Going out or coming in?

Thanks Sashie for letting me steal your images for the purpose of my blog. Heyy!

Check out my scope for today:
You can see around corners now by using your intuition, instead of your logic. But you'll need to also look backward in order to more clearly visualize what's ahead. Your previous experiences are invaluable as long as you don't place others in the position of having to defend their own personal history. Remember, everyone's perspective adds to the mix and you are best served by taking multiple points of view into your consideration.

I like it.
