Libros
You might wonder why I put the cover of the books I read on my blog. I always try to find a picture of the exact book that I've read, too, even though there are usually several for the same book. It's because I often judge a book by its cover. That's also how I judge people. Just kidding.Read On Beauty. You'll like it. It's long, and takes a couple (40?) pages to get into but once it rolls, it's rollin.
Somebody in my building has great taste in books and always leaves stacks of them on this little table where people leave things for other people to take. Example? There was a box of clothes down there yesterday morning, along with some random shoes. Anyways, used clothes aren't my bag, but used books are. I read sometimes up to 2 or 3 books a week so don't really care to buy them new so I usually buy used books anyways. And now I get them for free, too!Strangers by Yamada Taichi was sitting there the other day. Totally a ghost story. Totally scary and totally easy to read. Dug that one, too. I am now reading the new one by Taichi and will tell you how it is. You can be sure of that people.

Release
Released the report we've been working on for ages today! This is my fourth year as an author and let me tell you, it is trying, ya'all.

Short History
I'd seen this book around a bit so decided to give it a shot. At first, I totally didn't dig it - what do I care about Ukrainian tractors? As it turns out though, it ended up being really funny and had a great ending which is more than I can say for a lot of books - even ones that I like (White Teeth by Zadie Smith, for example. Excellent book, terrible ending.)In the spirit of reading recommendations, and given that today is the biggest primary like ever, this is also a thought-provoking article about politics and feminism. Because this is New York Magazine don't expect any incredible reporting but I do think the article offers good points.

Prague
Have you been to Prague? If so, where did you stay? Would you recommend it? I'm trying to find a reasonably priced and awesome hotel to stay at so if you have one, let me know would you?
I found this cool place and it's pretty cheap but you have to share a bathroom. I don't know if I can hack it, you guys? We'll see. I'm still thinking about it.

Ritual
Dude, I've been listening to the Singles Soundtrack for a couple of weeks now. If you haven't listened lately, you ought to. It will crack you up. Nothing is more funny than Chris Cornell screaming RITUAAALLLLL in your ears in the morning.
Well maybe some things are more funny. But that is pretty funny.
Oh yeah. And too bad this book:
stunk. I thought it would be funny and or interesting. But it just sort of stunk most of the way through. I never saw the movie, I hope it was better than the book. Carrie Fisher ought to stick to acting.

Tax Day
Did you guys turn in your taxes, yo?
Were they done weeks ago?
We sent our a couple of months back.
Along with a big check. Totally whack.
Long lines today at the P.O.
Why do peeps wait so long? I don't know.
Paying taxes doesn't make me mad.
But they spend it all on the war. That's bad.
Man, my poetic skills are off the hook!
I'm just waiting for an offer to publish my book.
Don't mock me until you've done it, see?

Apartment
I was thinking about my last apartment this morning.
The one in Hell's Kitchen. It was so clean and nice on the inside - brand new everything. The floors were the best. So shiny and beautiful and clean. That place was small though. So tiny. We had this tiny love seat that was our couch and one other chair.
At night, we were so close to the people next door I could hear the dude light his cigarette. And he did - every morning at 6 am the guy would have a smoke. How freaking disgusting is that?
The super lived below us. He was a real mess, dudes. A real mess. Anyways, he totally used to smoke and light incense to cover it up. I noticed one morning that my apartment was rapidly filling with smoke so I called him. He came upstairs and I said look at this - my apartment is full of smoke from your incense. He looked surprised - so that was good - it's not like he had any idea that he was filling my apartment with smoke when he fired up his incense. So he apologized - but before he left said "Yes, but it's nice right? Smells good?" I was like, dude, no. Get out of my apartment.
That place also had mice. Not mouse. Multiple mice. One morning, a dead mouse lay on my living room floor just outside the bathroom. I still can't believe that - what if I stepped on it with my bare feet you guys?
Anyways, I don't know what got me to thinking about that apartment except maybe the usual bliss I feel when I look around my new apartment. I love it.

Circ. vs. Stacks
There's this kind of cool looking guy who works at the NYU library circulation desk. He's sort of a femme, and has great jewels and make-up on most of the time, but in a very subtle way. Anyways, I saw him this morning getting off the train and got to remembering the Great Divide of my college days work experience.
I always had like ten jobs in college - I worked at a restaurant, a head shop, I was a transcriber, a clerk, and most of all I worked at the library.
I think libraries are the greatest invention in modern day life and I absolutely love them.
I worked at the UC Berkeley library for 3 years, in various capacities. But most of all, I worked in the Stacks, which means I was a book shelver, sorter, and maintainer. There were like 20 of us and the job was just hilarious - a little boring, but fun because you sat around the back of the library with other students and put books in alphabetical order. Work study, baby!
Anyways, the other side of things at the library was the Circulation Desk. Or Circ. The people who worked in Circ were all hipsters before hipsters were really called that. I mean vintage-wearing, indie-rock listening, poetry-majoring, pretty-people types. They looked upon the Stacks workers with disdain and we saw them for what they were - a bunch of assholes.
The divide was never breached - if you worked in Stacks, you worked in Stacks. If you worked in Circ, well, who knows what their rules were. I was never one of them.
I wonder if it's like that here?

- John McCain voted against establishing a national holiday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Now he says his position has "evolved," yet he's continued to oppose key civil rights laws.1
- According to Bloomberg News, McCain is more hawkish than Bush on Iraq, Russia and China. Conservative columnist Pat Buchanan says McCain "will make Cheney look like Gandhi."2
- His reputation is built on his opposition to torture, but McCain voted against a bill to ban waterboarding, and then applauded President Bush for vetoing that ban.3
- McCain opposes a woman's right to choose. He said, "I do not support Roe versus Wade. It should be overturned."4

- McCain talks a lot about taking on special interests, but his campaign manager and top advisers are actually lobbyists. The government watchdog group Public Citizen says McCain has 59 lobbyists raising money for his campaign, more than any of the other presidential candidates.8
- McCain has sought closer ties to the extreme religious right in recent years. The pastor McCain calls his "spiritual guide," Rod Parsley, believes America's founding mission is to destroy Islam, which he calls a "false religion." McCain sought the political support of right-wing preacher John Hagee, who believes Hurricane Katrina was God's punishment for gay rights and called the Catholic Church "the Antichrist" and a "false cult."9

Morandi
Dude, dig the name! Had a breakfast meeting at this huge new restaurant (new? maybe not) in the west village called Morandi (which I like b/c it incorporates BFF's name and so I say it Mo Randi). It's huge. I know the village, used to live there, and generally can find my way around with ease. Go figure I couldn't find this restaurant on 7th Avenue South and Waverly Place. I was walking around for 20 minutes before I called Stretch to find out where it was - only to realize I was standing in front of it.

When Ang and I were kids, the local radio station in Oxnard, then called Q105, now called Q104.7, pulled a hoax on us listeners and told us that the New Kids on the Block were going to play a concert on the top of the Union Bank building in Oxnard, California.
Didn't fool us, though. I mean maybe for a second.
Remember that it's April Fools Day today so if you're coworker tells you she heard you're getting the boot, or your best friend tells you she's marrying a guy she just met, it may be a trick. Then again, it may just be a very bad day.
