Monday, Monday

How was your weekend? Mine was lovely - very easy but also fun. Didn't go to many new places but did check out brunch at the spot - Sette on Seventh Avenue in Park Slope. Park Slope - also called BabyTown. There were no less than six babies at brunch at the same time as us. Of course their parents were there, too, in case you were picturing a circle table with all high chairs. I know where to bring Jojo next week when she brings her little tiny. I thought the place was great - my breakfast wasn't very good but that's my fault not theirs. I should know by now that I really don't like eggs that much. Ha!
Unlimited mimosas, though, that was nice.
I'm beginning to get to know Brooklyn better and can now almost always figure out where I am in relation to either a) my apartment or b) Target on Atlantic, but not yet both.

Guest in town - should be fun. Went to Maggie Brown's for dinner last night. One of the three restaurants in my neighborhood. Oh just kidding. We have more than three. We have seven.

Obsessed

Poor, obsessed Codfish. I'm really stuck on this HBO series, In Treatment, and I kind of watch it all the time and can't stop thinking about it. It makes me want to be a therapist, be in therapy, be Gabriel Byrne, be Sophie, be Laura, but definitely not Jake and Amy.

Easter Feaster

This is the egg decorating station in the guest room. So much fun.

We ate a lot of food.

There was: Ham of course, Chicken a la Ruthie - also called Rachel's chicken because I made it special for Rachel, Cindy's mom's cheesy potatoes, dill roasted potatoes, green salad, deviled eggs, steamed vegetables, pimento dip and crudite, black olives, these little phyllo pastry spinach spirals and dinner rolls.

And easter candy.

Peeps brought all kinds of good stuff - like tofu & raita, quinoa salad, brownies, pies, pasta salad with little blueberries and goat cheese, and lots and lots and lots of wine!

Yay!

Totally successful dinner party yesterday, I can't wait to tell you all about it and show you the pictures. I'm going to have to, though, because I've got a lot of work to do and Spring Break is over and all the students are back!

This blog is called Stuff White People Like - and it seems to be pretty funny. I can't of course speak to the veracity of the claims. I do notice, however, that it doesn't list Pirates and I think that people of Caucasian descent do like Pirates.

I went to two decidedly un-St. Paddy's locations. The first was a great wee cafe on Bleecker and Broadway that I will definitely be checking out again. Good happy hour, buy one get one free at the tables, and delicious snacks!

We also went to Frank's Lounge here in my nabe (closer to Fort Greene) and it is seriously is the best bar in my hood.

Motherless Brooklyn

My first Jonathan Lethem book, Motherless Brooklyn was a great find! Thanks BFF for sending it my way. (Be careful clicking that link - BFF is half naked on her blog with another girl in bed. And what I mean by be careful is click right away!) This book is about a mafioso detective who has tourette's syndrome, a real true to life murder mystery.

Here's my fave quote:

Rustik Tavern

Babe and I checked out the Rustik Tavern on Friday night because it got a good review from Clinton Hill Blog and its new and in our neighborhood. (471 Dekalb Ave.)

Well cute it is, that's for sure. The space is really lovely and the people seem nice. The service was so bad, I can't even begin to explain it. Not like they weren't really friendly people. They were! Our server was lovely.

I went online beforehand to check the menu and was so stolked to see they have Sierra Nevada on tap. MMM Pale Ale. So we asked for it and they didn't have it. I asked her what wines they had by the glass and she didn't know. We ordered a plate of nachos and some sliders and after an hour wondered what was going on. Until I saw the people who had just sit down next to us dive into a plate of nachos and some sliders. She was apologetic, of course!, but then we still waited 20 minutes for our food after that. She gave us a free round which was very nice, but also the least they could do considering it was 10 pm when we finally got our food, and we'd sat down at 8:30. Too bad, man! Too bad. The nabe is so small and really needs good place to catch a meal. I guess this will just be a spot for the occasional beer on tap (another thing lacking in our neighborhood) and that is okay with me too.

I've been reading a lot since I finished my Master's! YAY!

So many books are complete garbage, I might add. But not this one:


Haruki Murakami's After the Quake: This tiny, tiny book is full of delicious stories that are strange but not too strange. They all wrap around the theme of the earthquake, which is sometimes the point of the story and sometimes just an aside.
Sue Miller's The World Below was pretty good - it wasn't stupendous and it included some old people sex which isn't always what you're dying to read but I think good for everyone to think about. It sheds some light on the sanatoriums people were sent to when they were expected of having TB. Interestin.

corporate America

As I was coming to work today, I was remembering what it was like to work in corporate America, in Public Relations in San Francisco.

If you were going to be late to work, your coworkers would sometimes turn on your computer and drape a sweater over the back of your chair so it looked like you were there, but had just run out to get coffee or a bagel. Silly shenanigans. Who were we fooling??
