Haiku Friday

Work field trip today
To the Iron Triangle in Queens,
Out to Willets Point.
***
I was so happy
When Desmond and Penny
finally chatted.
***
It's so freezing cold.
It might just snow a little, too.
Warm things up a bit.

Barak Obama Paid Your Parking Ticket

Project Runway

Would've kept things interesting. Peeps around these parts have been saying for ages there was no way he was going to run. I really like him, though, and would've considering voting for him if my gal doesn't get the nomination. But, it does look like its going to be Obama and there will be a soda machine in every classroom and free dress every day, not just Fridays and not just for seniors.

BTW - Project Runway, so good. !

1,000 Posts

That last post was my thousandth post! How you like me now?
***
Finally caught the Survivor opener off the DVR last night - Fans vs. Favorites - hilarious! I wish Babe and I weren't the only people I know who watch the show, though. Ha!
***
I hope the news is wrong and this doesn't spell the end for Hillary Clinton.
***
I can't wait to read the NY magazine article about Chelsea Clinton. I mean I. can't. Wait.
***
Anything new with you guys? I'm going to a gala tonight. Last night I went to the gym - for the first time in my life I ran on the freaking treadmill.
***
I know its cheesy, but is anyone watching America's Best Dance Crew? Look, don't you judge me. DVR makes so many things possible. Anyways, its really freaking good - especially if you can fast forward commercials, Mario Lopez, and every time the guy from the boy band opens his mouth.

Monday licious

Well??? Did you watch the Oscars? I did. They were kind of boring, but overall the viewing was a good time. We had a little pool of course and I lost - of course.
***
A lot of the dresses looked the same - lots of beads and feathers (Ahem. Not dots and feathers - beads and feathers.) My favorites were the super hot Helen Mirren's red number and Hilary Swank's, too.
***
Too bad Johnny Depp will never win an Oscar! Man! I love him. I wish he'd win.
***
Otherwise it was just so so and fine and dandy. Jon Stewart is so cute and funny. I would've liked to hear a few more jokes and a few less stupid musical numbers. I feel like I saw every song from the movie enchanted - a movie I never even wanted to see in the first place!
***
Until next year I suppose.

Happy Monday!

Naked

I’m working on my scrap book from back when I went to London, last year! I’m trying to get it done before I go on my next European Vacay to Berlin & Prague! It’s basically all I’m looking forward to.

That and tonight’s episode of Lost, of course.

Works kinda suckin it, but I think that’s to be expected. February is always pretty hard.

I wonder when you guys will decide to leave me b/c my blog is boring you to tears?

Maybe I should put naked pictures of myself like BFF does. That should keep you interested. I’ll put a pretty picture of BFF instead. How bout that?

Better outfit, better day

I do think if you wear something cute, your day has the potential to go a bit better. That's my prediction. I'll tell you how it goes. I'm wearing my Solana outfit, which is a super cute top & skirt with brown boots. It just reminds me of Solana, even though she's 4 feet 5 inches tall (Ha! Not really, huh Solana?) and I'm almost six feet tall.

Do you guys read your horoscope? I have mine on my igoogle homepage. Today, it's:
"Reassess your current relationships and reconsider how they fit into your personal master plan. You are very aware of an unhealthy situation now and realize that it isn't just as you like it. But hard work is more crucial today than any intellectual leap you could make. Your task isn't innovation; it's being more efficient."

It's freezing cold in NY today.

What a strange and messed up post for today. We'll see how long this stays up.

Nancoi, we'll have to discuss Bloomsburg over drinks. Can't put it all in writing - I think the events brought me down yesterday and today is no time for that.

Busy

Gonna be busy today because its like a double Monday, what with Monday having disappeared from our line up. We need to discuss the following, and I suggest we put it on our agenda for this week. We could try to knock out one or two topics a day?
  • Middleburg & Bloomsburg, PA. - Racist or not: the politics of a bed and breakfast.
  • Lost - Man this show is so good I can't stop thinking about it. Need to keep up on my reading though.
  • Bars in Brooklyn - took some West Coasters out on a wee tour of the nabe, think they enjoyed it. Sure they did! Know they enjoyed it. Wouldn't mind telling you about it.
  • Berlin & Prague.
What's on your agenda this week?

Oxnard

My hometown is in turmoil because some asshole punk kid decided to shoot a boy in the head in a classroom full of junior high school students.

You can read about it here.

From the LA Times:

Bullying in schools has long been a problem. But recent studies show that a student who comes "out" as gay or lesbian is far more likely to suffer abuse than others, said Kevin Jennings, executive director of the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network based in New York.

A student thought to be gay was five times as likely to be threatened or injured by a weapon, a 2002 California Department of Education study said. Jennings said other studies have found similar results. His group advocates more teacher training on how to handle bullying and harassment, specifically of gay students.

"This Oxnard shooting is very upsetting but not surprising," Jennings said. "The real issue is not the kid coming out, but the kid sitting next to him. Schools must teach that we may not like one another, but we must respect one another."

Valentine's Day Fun

Your Candy Heart Says "Get Real"

You're a bit of a cynic when it comes to love.
You don't lose your head, and hardly anyone penetrates your heart.

Your ideal Valentine's Day date: is all about the person you're seeing (with no mentions of v-day!)

Your flirting style: honest and even slightly sarcastic

What turns you off: romantic expectations and "greeting card" holidays

Why you're hot: you don't just play hard to get - you are hard to get

Murakami

I’m such a fan of novels, I almost never read short stories. I’ve tried, you know. Some Flannery O’Connor, even Alice Adams. I’ve read Jeanette Winterson’s short stories, of course, because I love her. And Alice Walker’s and maybe a few others. I’ve never really been that stolked about them, to be honest with you. I just love novels. Oh! And I always read the fiction from the New Yorker. Anyways, all of that is to say, to recommend, to yell from the rooftops (or just this blog!) that I love this collection of short stories and it is the best I’ve ever read in my life. Holy Cow. Murakami has done it again.

Guess?

Of course the answer is just a google search away, but before you google it, who do you THINK is older? Tina Turner or Aretha Franklin? I ask, obviously, because of the Grammys!

I'm telling you, its not who you think it is!

One of them is 69, the other is 65.

Crazy!

FUERZABRUTA

We went and saw this on Friday and it was really excellent. It was like maybe the best show I've ever seen? Is that possible? I dont know but I loved it. It was fun and exciting and different and cute and silly and just plain dope. Beautiful ladies swimming in a plexiglass pool inches from yor noggin, people on cables flying around and running around the auditorium, a guy running for ages nowhere and crashing into walls. Tremendous! Well played, Fuerzabruta. Well played!

Haiku Facelift Friday

Do you like my look?
Maybe I'll change frequently
or just stick with green.

Did you guys watch LOST?
So intriguing! New people
came to the island.

How are you feeling?
I hope all is going well and
that you are happy.

Horoscope

Fighting a rising tide of resentment may seem appropriate, but it might make more sense to express what you are feeling. The problem is where to direct your anger, for aiming it at the obvious target could just make matters worse. Nevertheless, repression only feeds your emotions with more subconscious fuel. Share your unspoken dilemma with a trustworthy friend or send your deepest secrets in an email to yourself and then ritually delete it to release the unresolved tension.

Coincidence?

Daily Show

It was too hilarious for words, you guys! Oh, we laughed and laughed. We were in the front row, off to the side and it was just so freaking hilarious. Jon Stewart is quick and funny. Next stop - Colbert!

And how about that primary huh? The returns were like watching the superbowl all over again. So exciting! So hopeful! SO FREAKING CLOSE.

Today is super Tuesday! I'm off to vote in a few hours. Right before I go see the Daily Show!!!

These guys are TREMENDOUS

superbowl

Did you watch it? What fun! We watched it with a Giants fan, so that made it so much better. That and the five foot hogie that she bought for the three of us.

Me and Babe realized on the way home we've never lived in a city with a winner before. Like, when we were in Oakland, obviously the As and the Raiders never won, and I generally hate the Giants and the 49ers, but they never won either when we were living there. He grew up in San Diego and the Chargers never won. I had no team in Oxnard (of course). The whole time we've lived here, the Yankees haven't won the world series (or the Mets).

People were so excited! There were hundreds of people in the streets, shouting. AND! There will be a ticker tape parade. I want to go.
