Pearl Jam!

Tonight Babe and I are going to see Pearl Jam at MSG! Holler!

I was trying to count the times I've seen them and thought, why do that alone?
  1. June 24, 1995, San Francisco, CA Polo Fields: Me and Randi drove up after graduating high school. Harrowing trip, somewhat life changing. Eddie Vedder had food poisoning, sang a few songs, and left the state. That was the Vs. tour.
  2. November 4, 1995, San Jose CA: Krystee was up for her 16th birthday. Me, Jojo, Krystee and Nathan went to this show. Spent a considerable amount of time in the Rock Doctors tent. That was the Vitatology tour.
  3. October 19 or 20, 1996, Mountainview CA: Babe and I borrowed my roomate Rachel's car and drove to Shoreline Amphitheater for my first of many Bridge School concerts.
  4. Babe, did we go see them in 1997 in Oakland at the Colliseum?
  5. July 16, 1998, Sacramento, CA: Babe, Samoi, Sashi and I headed up to Sactown to watch them play. Awesome.
  6. October 30, 1999, Mountainview CA: Another Bridge School Benefit.
  7. October 31, 2000, Mountainview CA: On Halloween night!!! This one was so crazy. I sat in the 12th row.
  8. October 21, 2001: Mountainview CA: Another Bridge School Benefit. Keep on rocking in the free world.
  9. July 8, 2003, New York, NY: Madison Square Garden
  10. June 27, 2006, Camden, NJ: Almost missed this one due to a rain storm.
  11. July 3, 2006, Denver, CO: With Tom Petty, such a good show!
  12. June 25, 2008, New York, NY: Madison Square Garden. I can't hardly wait.

A Hole in the Earth

I just finished this book. A Hole in the Earth by Robert Bausch. It's about a 40 year old man whose estranged teenage daughter comes home to live with him for a summer. On the same day she shows up at his door step, his girlfriend tells him she's pregnant. Also? He loves nothing more than going to the races and betting on horses. The book, well, it didn't stink. I feel like it might be more appreciated by people who are living with a lot of Catholic angst, who at the age of 40 still worry about telling their father that their girlfriend is pregnant, but otherwise I thought it was a good book.

Tiny Sisi turns 1 year old!

Happy Birthday Little Girl!

THANKS to all of you who've donated!! Wow! You guys rock my world!!

I'm back!

What a journey! We totally made it and Babe's ear didn't explode coming home! Thank God.

I'm so glad to be back in NYC. It's so muggy here.

My work was in the NY Times twice this weekend! Wow! We're so awesome.

Wisconsin was beautiful. I got a speeding ticket. As far as trips go, it wasn't the best. But we're back.

some women

It occurs to me that some women, some people, would spend their morning differently. I am sitting on the shore of lake michigan, it is absolutely gorgeous, maybe 80 degrees and not humid. There are walking trails, bikes to rent, a gym, a swimming pool, and all sorts of people to get to know. What have I chosen to do, you may wonder. Well, I've got a screwdriver, a glass of water, a book and a lawn chair. I am actively soaking up the sun, rotting my brain with crap literature and drinking before noon.

So many people have already donated to my Boob Walk in just a few short days!! You guys Rock the House!! THANK YOU!

A few things I like:
  • Plain clothes police officers.
  • The subway.
  • Baseball season.
  • Going on vacay.
  • All different types of weather, from super hot to totally raining and snowing.
  • Annie's Goddess Dressing.
A few things I don't like:
  • Coldplay.
  • The posters in the subway for Tori Spelling's new show.
  • Feet that aren't pedicured.
  • That one of our star pitchers is out til September.
  • Being tired.
  • Cats.

My horoscope for today

Today it seems as if everyone is as emotionally charged as you are, and that can be quite unsettling. It's one thing for you to have intense feelings; you are used to it. But being confronted with other people's unresolved issues can be all too much. Instead of thinking you must be totally available for everyone, don't hesitate to establish solid boundaries to protect your peace of mind.

Last night I watched a documentary on debate teams. Took me back to high school when I was in the speech and debate team for four years. Nerd alert!! Yay!! Just about every other weekend in high school I was in some nearby City standing up in front of a (small) room and giving speeches. Oh, Mr. Crow. Thank you for caring.
I also read a book called About a Boy which they made into a movie starring Hugh Grant. Very cute book! Laugh out loud funny.
I made a simple dinner - salad, sauteed spinach, and leftover pea soup since Babe is sickie.
Thanks a million to all my blog readers who have already donated to my Boob walk!! I'm doing so good so far!!

Monday, Monday

Did you guys get caught in the deluge on Saturday? I did. In the middle of the east river on a boat. Holding drinking a 22 out of a paper bag wearing a party dress. I'll explain. But not now.

Went to the best restaurant I've been to in ages: Graffiti Food and Wine Bar in the East Village. Review to follow but I'll say this now - thumbs way up.

Went to a great cocktail bar, Death + Company - very chic, good drinks, nice service.

I'll holla back later. I've got to get some work done.

Haiku Friday

Heard a funny line
walking home from work last night.
Woman on the phone.

"He needs to be man
enough to break up with her.
He can't just string her

along. She is a
woman. Not a bead necklace!"
When she's right, she's right.

Dark and Seedy Thursday?

I'm actually not sure Dark and Seedy Thursday is such a good idea, but I totally like the name. What if I just talked about pomegrates? Wouldn't that be annoying? (Get it? Cuz they are dark and seedy? Thanks, folks, I'll be here all week.)
We went to Back Forty last night to try their burgers. The place was so awesome. It looked brand new, it's totally huge with three big rooms and a back yard. The back yard was necessary as the place seemingly was not air conditioned. Either way, dope space for parties, because the tables are so big.

The burger was good. I have to say not amazing. Maggie Brown's around the corner from our pad does a better burger and for much less. The bun was perfection, lightly toasted and covered in sesame seeds. The cow was apparently grass fed, a nice eco plus, but didn't really change the taste. The cheese (at $2 a slice) was too mild for such a big burger. The spicy ketchup was homemade and delicious and the fries were sort of ruined by being covered in rosemary, an herb that I killed whilst on the Sonoma diet. They had great beer on tap, though, like Captain Lawrence Pale Ale, and the company was terrific, so although the burger wasn't one of my top five it was a super fun night.

Wow indeed

I need more themes. Haiku Friday makes my life so easy. Every Friday I get to my computer and know all I have to churn out is a haiku.

Some people do Love Thursday or Half Nekkid Thursday. I never really understood Love Thursday. Half Nekkid - pretty easy to understand. Throw T&A pictures of yourself on the web so people can leave comments like "MMM Yummy" or "Nice Ass." Makes me kind of ill. Love Thursday - maybe you say something nice about something you love?

BFF does TMI Tuesday - that's very cute. I usually just hop on her blog to fill that in.

I'm thinking of doing a politics Wednesday - thus ensuring that those of you who don't want to talk about politics on my blog (Jessicurl) know when to skip the post. But I am not yet invested in the race. Politics Wednesday may have to wait.

I was thinking of doing a weekly post where I tell you some sort of dark and seedy story from times long ago. This may be the winner. Winner winner! Chicken dinner! But I don't have one for today. Not yet anyways.

Any ideas? I could do book reviews one day a week. But is that interesting? I read so much crap why would anyone care what I thought of it?

Happy Birthday, Tootsie!

Misc. Items

For some reason, this morning, I was remembering that in Junior High I wore my pants inside out to school one day...I read NY Metro this morning on the train and I'm wondering if I'm actually stupider for it...There was a feature on sunglasses. No, seriously. Sunglasses...I left my phone charger at home today. I hate that...For reals? Not to be so typical and always talk about the weather, but it's fucking burning up hot dudes. Sorry had to drop an F bomb but it's that hot. There's no two ways about it. Good thing we're going to a METS game tonight. I hope we roast...We're running a bed and breakfast this summer at the crib. Just hop online and see if you can book a reservation.

Monday Monday

Darlings! How are you? What did you do this weekend? I went to a wedding in Vermont - so lovely! So hot! I'll share pictures. I still owe you pictures from last week.

What did you do? See any new places? Find any cool spots? Install your AC? We did!

Sad when the mind goes. The other day, in a comment on BFF's blog, I noted my first kiss as Jonathan B. It was actually Josh Y.

Haiku Steamy Apple Friday

Nineties and humid

FYI - in case you need something, in my office, right now, I have:
  • two pairs of flip flops, one brown, one black
  • a pair of black sandals
  • brown flats
  • my doc martins
  • work out clothes
  • three cardigans, one black, two brown
  • a suit jacket
  • a regular light weight spring jacket.
  • my rain boots
Yeah, that's it.

Man, it kills me. I totally come up with the best blog ideas when I'm trying to fall asleep. Last night I had the perfect one - totally wrote it in my head and thought there is no way I'll forget this for tomorrow morning.

Wiped out.

Busy, man

Summer is kind of busy, right? This week certainly has been so far.
It's only Wednesday!
The New Yorker this week is full to brim with delicious short stories - read them!
I went to Quiz Night at Rope last night. That was super fun. Nice to go our randomly on a Tuesday. Tonight I have a work gala. LAME.
I'm working on my tan, every day, on the roof. Not today though because it is raining.
I've been reading about a book a week. Just finished The Lady Killers, an old Japanese novel. If I can find a link to it, I shall put it up here.
Oh, shoot. I keep forgetting to put my pictures of the Tetrascope up.

The race

Dear Senator Clinton,

Thanks for running for president! I'm sorry to see you go. I think today is the day you're going to step down from the campaign. It makes me really sad. I wish things could have been different and you could have been the democratic presidential nominee. You did open up a lot of people's eyes, though, and that is incredibly important, too.

Anyways, this doesn't really capture everything I want to say. I just feel sad and disappointed but I hope that one day soon we'll elect a female president to lead this country and or rule the world.

Yours truly,

Cod the fish

Busy Weekend

Totally busy and fun weekend. Some tidbits?

Isn't tidbit kind of a gross word?
  • Saw Pennywise at Irving Plaza. Dude, I saw these guys for the first time when I was fifteen years old. At the Mayfair in Ventura, Ca. I kissed this guy named Jonah, with long blond hair and a steamroller. Babe and I have seen them together about 10 times. This was a rockin show, with a crazy ass mosh pit. Scary!
  • Went to a gal pal's bachelorette party. It was so much fun I almost died. Ate at Avenue A sushi, which I totally recommend for its festive atmosphere, good DJ, and great drinks. The food was good, too! Also took a class at the S. Factor - totally the best idea ever.
  • Went to the Habana Outpost on Sunday for some lounging and $2.50 beers in the sun, along with the rest of our neighborhood. We'll be seeing a lot of that place this summer, I can tell.
  • Checked out a fancy outdoor brunch spot, Five Front, which I'd recommend. A little pricey but really good food and a good atmosphere. Plus its right underneath the Brooklyn Bridge - how chic!
  • Also, went to the coolest dive bar on the planet, or at least in East Village, after the show on Saturday night. Holla. I almost hesitate to link to it, because I doubt they want lots of people to know about it. But you guys are all dope, and would love it, so check the link!
  • Happy Monday!
