Goodness!

My goodness my good people it sure is late in the day for a post!...I've been very busy at work preparing to move offices...I've also been busy working...Last night we went to the METS game which was a real treat...I had a foot-long hot dog which was so delicious I almost died...Needless to say the diet must start again soon!...Going to California on Saturday though so I won't be dieting very much when I'm home....My mom says we're going to make Indian Tacos...I say sounds good to me...It's still weird weather for NY in August...And what I mean by weird is not hot...Our cable is fixed...Did you even know it was broken?...I feel like August is slipping through my fingers...I've got to finish my thesis in the next two weeks...It's going to suck...I wish I had a chocolate chip cookie...Won't someone make one for me?

Bizarre

Do you guys know about these two, Theresa Duncan and Jeremy Blake? They are artists who killed themselves within a week of each other. She with pills and booze, he by walking into the Atlantic Ocean.

The story is so bizarre - they were totally in love and totally creative artists but they were incredibly paranoid that scientologists were after them. They made friends sign "loyalty oaths" and were convinced that they were being spied upon by the likes of Tom Cruise.

Here's the NY Mag article I read last night.

They've left her blog up.

Little Branch

This bar is simply wonderful. You feel like you are the only person who knows about it as you're walking up to it. There is a simple gold plaque on the front announcing its name - Little Branch - and you go straight downstairs. They have tiny booths for two people and the lighting is low (as are the ceilings).

I ordered a vodka tonic - they don't have the usual kind of vodka I order, they have two different kinds, both "handmade" whatever that means. They bring you your drink with a huge block of ice and a bottle of tonic for you to mix yourself. Babe ordered the Bartender's Special and they came out with one of the most delicious drinks I've ever tasted.

I'd been here before once and had a beautiful time, but Babe hadn't been yet. So we had a little anniversary drink. We also had tried to go one time on a Friday night but there was a line outside and I was furious. So we moved to Brooklyn.

August

I read recently somewhere that there are statistically more birthdays in August than any other month. Now I can't find where I read it, so I don't expect you of all people to believe me. You who freak out every time I throw a fact your way. HA!

But, I'd still like to use this space to shout out to a few August Birthdays that I know.

Happy Birthday Yesterday to Omar!
Happy Birthday a few days ago to Scooter, on the far left. Not in terms of politics, just in this picture.
And lovely Carissa who is actually in this country right now preparing to take Burning Man by storm. Thanks for hooking it up, Carissa!

BBC

Or Brookyn bar crawl. These pictures are all Michele's, so I'm really stealing them.

This is the cute rooftop of the Graziella's pizza down the street from my apartment. They have delicious pizza and this super cute rooftop! Love it.
This is a pic Michele took from our window (also featured on her site) which shows that in fact, our apartment does have a view of the Empire State Building. See it? In the corner there? At that top? Well, can ya? Can ya see it?
I've been talking this bar up for Ages, the Royale. And I still love it. It was kinda dead on Saturday night though. So we left and went to Commonwealth which had good service and a great backyard. The crowd was very Murray Hill though. Strange, right? For that far South in Park Slope.
Then we went to Bar Reis, but that is not what this picture is. Bar Reis - god I love that place! It's so cute and so fun and so ... whatever. This is a picture of where we ended the night, at The Gate. Great spot. Good beers, like Blind Tiger but not on Bleecker.

First Saturdays

Last Saturday, Babe and I hit up the Brooklyn Museum for their first Saturday party. We had a pretty great time - lots of people in the sculpture garden in the back hanging out chilling with a beer. Lots of people dancing to the off the hook DJ, lots of kids running around screaming. It was a great party and totally free. It's about a 20 minute walk from our house, so you gotta love that.

But we didn't just enjoy the outdoor party. We totally checked out the museum, too, for free, and open until 11pm. One of the coolest things I've ever seen in a museum was there. It was all these little houses & "period rooms" decorated with old furniture. I get a kick out of that stuff, you guys. And it was pretty fun and scary too because we were in there basically all by our selves - tripping out walking through these old houses and rooms from the 16th and 17th century. Check it out.

There was also a Feminism exhibit which was in parts dope, funny, and disgusting. Dope was that famous exhibit of the dinner party which is a triangular table with place settings for 39 woman throughout the ages who made a difference but who's contributions were largely ignored (Holla Sacagawea!). Funny was that famous pic (below) that was all over NYC a couple of years ago - I was glad I got to see it. And disgusting was a movie of a woman pulling duct tape off of her boobs. Nipples and all, girls. It was not easy to watch.

What's In A (Middle) Name

BFF tagged me. Ask and I shall deliver.

Here are the rules:

1. You have to post these rules before you give the facts.
2. Players, you must list one fact that is somehow relevant to your life for each letter of their middle name.
3. When you are tagged you need to write your own blog post containing your own middle name game facts.
4. At the end of your blog post, you need to choose one person for each letter of your middle name to tag. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged and to read your blog.

My middle name is Kumari.

K - Keeper. I'm totally a keeper. And not in the Harry Potter quidditch kind of way. (Snorts and pushes glasses up on her nose.)

U - Ubiquitous. I'm totally everywhere, all the time. So knowing. So trusting. So love...ed? (Name that movie, kids. Name it!)

M - Married. I am. It's true.

A - Able. I'm pretty good at stuff. You know. Gettin er done, so to speak.

R- Rad. I grew up in Southern California.

I - Interestin. I'd like to think I'm interesting, but I'm also generally interested in things going on around me and what my peeps are up to.

I won't tag anyone. But you should do it if you want to.

"the greatest city in the world"

at least thats what they say on Letterman. And yet, yet, the subway is broken because it rained this morning.

Subway. Broken. Due to rain.

Hilarious

interview with Beastie Boy Adam Horovitz on Gothamist.

Going, going back back to Cali Cali

Dude I love my ipod. I hear the most hilarious songs on my way to work. This morning it was Gold Digger by Kanye that cracked me up. You know what, though? I don't think there was a song that united us this summer. I'll never forget two summers ago Gnarls Barkley's CRAZY was on all the time and was the feel good song of the summer. I don't think there is one this summer - is there?

I miss that summer. We had a great time.

Speaking of summer it is the hottest day today. Ever. It's supposed to feel like 105. Nice!

Some August birthdays coming up. We'll shout out when the time is right.

Thirsty Thursday

I got nothing kids. I got a lot of work to do, August is here, it's hot outside, and I'm feeling 100% scatterbrained.

That feeling when you've got a lot of balls in the air. You probably know the one.

I'll tell you one thing, though. There might be nothing better in this world that VitaminWater.

dreams

Last night I dreamed I was with Solana and we were driving through a drive through. She kept leaving though, so I was driving the car. It was a stick shift and I was totally winging it. The night before I dreamed that I had been witness to a murder. The murderer saw me and saw that I saw. I went into hiding, and changed my identity. Five years passed and I was at a party. The murderer was there. He saw me. I do believe that I then faked my own death in order to escape being followed. Wild dreams.
