After we got married at Burning Man. Swinging in a hammock and sleeping.

Nancoi regulated on my non-bloggin bootie and has offered me suggestions about what to blog about.

Here goes:

Coolies -

Well this one I had to look up. I thought this was a derogatory term for some type of Ethnic Group (which it apparently used to be) but if it's coming from Nancoi I figure it means cigarettes. And my thoughts on cigarettes are still often. But, its been nearly two years so it's time to admit that that ship may have sailed.

Feet season is here in NYC - time for pedicures and flip flops. Maintain those toes people. Maintain them. Everyone has enough money to get a pedi or to give yourself one.

Rich mommies in NYC

I'll never be a rich mommy in NYC - not because I won't be a mommy, I very likely will, and not because I will not be a mommy in NYC, though I can't say I'm planning to do that. But Me + Babies + NYC does not equal Rich.

How much you love me

Dude, I stinkin love Nancy. If I were to have moved here and not met Nancy I would have been...well up shit's creek without a paddle to put it in nice terms.

You favorite date with Babe

When Babe and I celebrated our one year anniversary, we were 19 years old and decided to have dinner at the Carnillian Room in San Francisco. We were by far the youngest people there and we had so much fun and such a beautiful dinner. I was so impressed - I'd never had anyone come and take the crumbs off the table with one of those little crumb remover things.

Places you wish you were right now

Bloomingdales. I just had my hair done and would love to be shopping right now. Or on a beach. Or at home watching Ellen.

You favorite names

Simon & Zoe.

Restaurant Week

Went to restaurant week in Brooklyn last night and ate at this place, Tempo Restaurant. Had a gourmet meal for a fraction of the price.

Polenta Emilia Romagna Style
sweet & hot fennel sausage
with tomato & asiago

Bucatini with Sicilian Pistachio Nut Pesto
fagiolini beans, toasted breadcrumbs, pecorino

Daily Selection of Gelati and Sorbetti
made in-house daily from all natural ingredients
(Mine was a lime, mint Sorbetti)

PLUS: we all shared these two sides:
Sautéed Escarole
garlic, pepperoncini flakes
Roasted Butternut Squash
rosemary honey

Dudes, seriously? YUM. Restaurant Week? Totally where it is at!

ten miles

Because the weather is finally better, Babe and I can resume our walking ridiculous distances on the weekend for no apparent reason.

This weekend we did ten miles as planned. And then went as follows:

On Friday night, we did two miles as we walked from our place on 44th and 9th to Lincoln Center to check out the Opera. We saw Madama Butterfly at the NYC Opera. Pretty neat stuff, and the opera house is beautiful and the opera was sad and sad.

Then we walked home. Stopped at a few great places on the way, such as the Hudson Hotel for a fancy drink then Vintage and the Film Center Cafe for a couple more. Oh yeah and Lucky Burger which we can talk more about later.

That was two miles.

Saturday, we walked up to 77 (44 - 77 = 1.5 miles) then watched Zodiac at the Upper West Side theater. Then walked home.

That was three miles.

Yesterday we had to do five miles in one day so opted to walk to the Lower East Side/Chinatown to check out Fried Dumpling, where two people can have lunch for five dollars. That was about 4 miles, then we walked back up to Astor Place and took the subway home.

That was five miles.

Haiku WooHoo We Made it Friday

Warm summery rain,
melting dirty snow piles
revealing dog poop.

At last, spring is here.
We can put away the coats,
super scarf, and gloves.

Daffodils blooming
on my windowsill. I hope
I don't kill my plant.

Two things

One gross, one good.

Which first? The gross, I spose. Don't read it if you don't want to.

Here goes: My fingers always crack in the winter when they get dry. At the corners of my nails, you know? Ouch! Does it ever hurt to type! Well yesterday I got a paper cut in one of the cracks in my funger. EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.

The good? Last night at 11:30 PM when I got home from work (yup, 11:30 PM), I was going into my apartment building and so was someone else, in front of me. And that person had a chocolate labrador who I got to pet named Peanut or something like that. Whatever his name was that little dogie was so perfectly sweet and cute he just made my day.

Man I am tired!

Guess what? According to my department, I am bilingual at the intermediate level. In any case, as true or false as that may be, I can pass a test translating a paragraph from Spanish to English with the help of a huge dictionary!

Que Bueno!

As promised

Babe, WeakLeg, Shoot-Z, Solomon-Strikes-Curious-Poses, and I all decided it would be a good idea/fun to head out to Woodside & Sunnyside Queens to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

And celebrate we did.

We started the day at P.J. Horgan's Pub in Sunnyside, touted as "Queen's Most Authentic Irish Pub." The Guinness was flowing, shamrocks were blinking, and Irish tunes were blaring. And the french fries were delicious.

We then headed to a really fantastic Irish pub on Skillman called Mickey John's. That was a real family spot with firefighters behind the bar and Smithwicks on tap. Super! It's definitely worth a visit!

Post firefighter bar, we headed to what can only be called the most Irish spot on the planet - Donovan's. There was a 30 minute wait for the cheeseburgers but who cares? While we waited we just drank a little more, ravaged a bag of Kettle Chips, and listened to awesome Irish Bagpipes. Though supposedly an official burger tasting in our quest to find the most perfect burger, we were all a little too tipsy to adequately score this offering. Still, "This is the most effing delicious burger I've ever eaten, dude, I'm dying!" has to count for something.
Satiated and drunk, we then headed out to catch live Irish music at Saints and Sinners. Yeah, the five of us and the rest of Woodside, apparently. We quickly Oh Hell No'd that one to roll across the street to hit up Sean Ogs Tavern to grab some tunes and more beers. Everyone who wasn't at Saints and Sinners was there - know why? Cuz the music was off the hook. But the crowd was just too much for me, and when the fights started to outnumber the good times, Babe and I decided it was time to roll. Our trip to Queens for St. Paddies was officially complete. Thumbs up all the way around. And if you don't believe me, just see for yourself.

St. Paddie's Day

Dude, we headed out to Sunnyside and Woodside Queens on Saturday to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. And I want to tell you all about it. But I can't yet because work beckons. But I will...soon.

Haiku Friday

Checked out the Blind
Tiger yesterday, about
time it re-opened.

Had a beer, well two.
Then had a slice at Bleecker
Street Pizza. The best!

Chilly out, but, so?
It doesn't change the fact that
Friday is now here.

  • This is my seven hundred and first post. Congratulations to me! And to you for making it this far with me!
  • It's been a year and 10 months since I quit smoking. Again, congratulations to me! And to Babe for being so nice in the face of such bitchiness.
  • Today is the ides of March, which is the 15th day in March and the day that Caesar was killed by Brutus.
  • I like to have less than fifteen emails in my inbox at a time, because it keeps me organized. Right now I have 173.
  • I had three drinks at a fantastic bar last night called Little Branch. Highly recommend!!
  • I made it home four minutes after 10, just in time to catch LOST, the best show of all time.

On Sunday, Babe and I saw Michael Imperioli in our neighborhood of Hell's Kitchen. Talk about unassuming, this guy really does look just like any other New Yorker. Our friends who came over later had just seen Queen Latifah at the gym. Sorta cooler, I think.

Also, finally got to see American Idol last night - so good! So good, dawg!

Nada Tuesday

Nada to report today!

Someone hates me for hating on Gil Mantera's Party Dream. Don't be mad, guys! From what I understand the act really lost something in such a big room.

Maybe they should stick to smaller venues? Like your sister's basement...

Scissor Sisters

Member how I told you guys Babe and I went to see the Scissor Sisters at Madison Square Garden Theatre? Well, they were very good. Really campy and wild!

But the opening acts were a certain type of torture. As techno music blasted and kids on ecstasy jumped around in front of the stage, Babe and I found ourselves in the 3rd layer of hell. The layer reserved for horrible music and drugged out New Yorkers.

I've included here a video of one of the opening acts, Gil Mantera's Party Dream. I know I saw people taping them at the Garden, but haven't found the video on youtube yet. This will have to suffice. Enjoy.

Fortune Cookie Philosophy from the Desk of Coodence

You know I save the heck out of these things. So, another installment of fortune cookie philosophy is here! Forgive the repeats, but some are just that important. Besides, now they may mean more to you than they have in the past.
  • A new friendship will bring unexpected joy.
  • The night life is for you.
  • It tastes sweet.
  • Grasp opportunities you will win.
  • Try not to stand on your own side during an argument.
  • Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off the goal.
  • Your ideals are well within your reach.
  • Your family is young gifted and attractive.
  • Rest has a peaceful effect on your physical and emotional health.
  • Be indifferent to snide remarks.
  • You are one of the people who "goes places in life."
And, my favorite, and one that I really live by:
  • Pray for what you want but work for the things you need.

Mana Mana

Mana Mana - The funniest videos are a click away

  • Remember when all it took was a Jodeci song on the radio to make the day all better?
  • Things are going well these days, ya'all. I have a lot of work to do but that's not a bad thing.
  • March ought to be a pretty good month I think. Lotsa fun work to do (what?!), spring break so some chillin time here at work, and generally just working out and eating right.
  • God this is one of the most boring posts I've ever done. I wonder if I should give up the blog for a while?

Poor Monday

No update. Unloved.
I've got not a lot of time for thee, little blog of mine. I'll try to write tonight.

Will need to tell you about the Scissor Sisters concert I saw on Saturday. And I watched a movie - Inside Man - on Sunday night. That was pretty darn good. Next on the netflix queue is Inconvenient Truth. I'm so ready to be told.

Watched Karate Kid II this weekend - or KKII as Ang and I used to call it - and man oh man! That movie is super ... um whats the word? Racist? Like people in Japan still live like that and do tea ceremonies and have young women named Makiko who make tea and where kimonos for American boys like Ralph Macchio. Man I used to love that movie. Sato!

And Pat Morita is dead. What is this world coming to?
