Haiku I love NY Friday

Watched I am Legend
last night in Brooklyn, with Babe.
Terribly sad flick.

It was so far out
to see the City empty.
Poor Will Smith and Sam.

I love this City.
Don't want it to be alone.

Wino

I think we're going to go see I am Legend tonight...So excited!!!...Watched it being filmed for basically a whole summer...Washington Square Park was covered in debris and there were burned out cars everywhere...I'm so excited to go to California this weekend!!!...I haven't seen my niece and nephew since August...That's the longest I've ever gone I think...Babe hasn't been to San Diego since January...Work is so busy right now...I think because everyone is trying to get everything done before the end of the year...It's almost time for New Year's Resolutions...I've got to check in on what I said I was going to do this year...I know finish my master's thesis was one of them...so close!!!...I think it will be done by mid-January...

Sup, G?!

Lucky me and Babe. We moved to Brooklyn and have a huge apartment with a Christmas Tree and views of Manhattan's skyline.

Lucky, lucky, lucky.

Know what train we rely on? The freaking G train. Know what happened last night? We left Nina's at 10:30 - totally reasonable! Took the 7 train to Long Island City/Court Square to switch to a G. That was 11:04. Okay, not great but not too shabby. We waiting for 20 minutes then Lo! A train approaches! Except it was the freaking TRASH train! So the G train finally got there at 1145. GRRRR. We got on, there were two drunk guys singing behind us and a homeless dude stinkin in front of us. Fine. They're allowed to sing and he's allowed to stink.

So, I watch rats scurry by on the platform, waiting for the G train to leave. It leaves and the conductor says, there is only one line on this G train right now, so we have to wait for the other train to pass us before we can keep on going. And, this train only goes to Bedford/Nostrand, where a shuttle bus will pick you up and take you rest of the way.

A freaking shuttle bus? At midnite? Nice.

Got home at 12:30. Cuz, apparently Nina lives on Long Island and I just didn't know.

Monday

I'm thinking of talking politics one day a week on this blog. Not all serious crazy style, but I do think I ought to give some political viewpoint and offer some of my thoughts as we are now in the year leading up to the race. Let's table that discussion for now, though, and just percolate on the idea a bit.
***
How bout that hail storm on Saturday night, huh? Nothing like getting shot in the forehead with hundreds of tiny ice cubes.
***
White Elephant is the most hilarious party game ever invented. Too much? Maybe. Popular items at the gift exchange I was at on Saturday night were:
  • A bottle of Patron (which I had my hands on for all of 2 minutes.)
  • The Clue board game.
  • Superbad, the DVD.
  • Pass the pigs (guess who brought that!)
Items that were not so popular?
Props to the hosts, though, as that Christmas party was clearly the best we went to.

Haiku Reality TV Friday

Dear Project Runway,
You are my new favorite
reality show.

Yesterday, I cried
when Jack had to say Good-bye.
Welcome back to Chris.

I am glad to have
found a new show to enjoy.
Thanks, Heidi! Love, Cod

burning question

How many fewer calories does an egg white and cheese on a toasted roll have than a regular egg and cheese?

Either way, it's delicious.

Avenue Q

Hahahhahahahahahahahahahahaha. That's my review of Avenue Q. I laughed and laughed and laughed. Someone said Avenue Q was Rent, with puppets. Nu-uh. Unless Rent wasn't really a tear jerking musical about a darling boy who dies of AIDS. And I do think it was.

Avenue Q (I'm always the last one to know, right? I'm sure everyone who is reading this has seen it.) has songs like " Everyone's A Little Bit Racist" and "The Internet Is For Porn." So funny, you guys. I highly recommend!

Know what I want for Christmas?

Dangly earrings & cute socks.

Amusement Parks

An amusement park is always fun to visit on a hot summer
babe. When you get there, you can rent a
beeper and go for a swim. And there are lots of
hot things to eat. You can start off with a hot dog on
a/an plug with mustard, relish, and rhymes
on it. Then you can have a buttered ear of boombox with a
nice sexy slice of watermelon and a big bottle of
cold red wine. When you are full, it's time to go on the
roller coaster, which should settle your chapstick.
Other amusement park rides are the Dodge-Em which has little
pencil toppers, that you drive and run into other passports,
and the Merry-Go-Round where you can sit on a big diner
and try to grab the gold shot as you ride past.

Mondaylicious

Right on! Let's have a good week, shall we?

What did you guys do this weekend? Babe and I went to two count them two parties. And we got our Christmas tree. And as we were drinking California Red Wine, listening to Christmas Carols, decorating our huge enormous grown up tree I felt like I'm pretty much the luckiest person in the world.

Oh! And!

Now, we need our tree.
This year we can go real big.

Nails, Massage, Waxation

What's your beauty maintenance ritual? Do you get your eyebrows done? Do you get your legs waxed? Mani/pedis are a must have? What about massage? Or facials?

If you said yes to any of these things, have a read of this article. I think it's fascinating.

An inside look at the Spa Industry.

(For me - it's mani/pedis every several weeks. I don't really want you to answer, though, that's more of a rhetorical question.)

Also, consider watching Miss Muffy and the Muff Mob, if you have a few extra minutes! This was so hilarious back in 2002 when it first came out.

Weather, Subway, and 1 more weird thing

Weather: The wind is blowing forty miles an hour. This makes it impossible for me to make phone calls during my commute (walking from one place to another) so sorry if you've called me and I haven't returned your call (Jessicer) it's because of the fucking gail force winds. Oops. Sorry about that F bomb.

Subway: I had to let 4 trains go this morning because they were so crowded. Then some guy in Timberlands stepped on my toe. Hard. Then some East Coast Chola said "Excuse me, your bag is hitting my back." OMG then move.

One more weird thing: 1) I always confuse the word elevator with umbrella. So, I'll tell Babe not to forget his elevator when its raining. Poor Fishie.

Tagged

BFF tagged me. That was nice. Here are the rules:

1. Link to the person that tagged you and post the rules on your blog.
2. Share seven random or weird things about yourself.
3. Tag seven random people at the end of your post and include links to their blogs.
4. Let each person know that they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.
  1. Whenever I drink margaritas I have nightmares.
  2. I like fake fish, like cartoony fish, but the real kind bug me out. Ever since Cin and Omar left their fish with us when they moved, and one day one of them died and got stuck in the filter. Babe had to clean it. Thanks, Babe.
  3. I like watching movies on TV, with commercials, more than I like watching movies without commercials.
  4. I only have 24 teeth.
  5. Even though I'm not religious, I pray the hail mary at night and it makes me fall asleep. Go figure.
  6. I'm totally afraid of Bloody Mary, or just mirrors in the dark.
  7. If I give you a nickname, or call you by just a nickname, I'll eventually switch back because I start to think of your nickname as your real name and your real name becomes like a nickname to me. Got that?
I tag Michele. 7 times.

Babe's Birthday

Dudes, Babe's birthday was so much fun!

Stupid Little Branch was closed (LAME!!!!) so we moved the party over to Daddy-O in the West Village - a fine spot for a little pre dinner drinking.

But dinner really was the crown jewel - man it was freakin delicious.

Do Hwa on Carmine Street was like the best Korean food I have ever had. Everything was tasty and delicious. The service was excellent, the drinks were good, and the company was just perfect. What a great night!!!!

Then we headed over to Denver to chill with the folks for a few days. Very nice. Some pictures? Sure!

Monday!

Supposedly today is Cyber Monday, with all kinds of deals and steals just for this day. Who has time to shop, though, after being off for four days?

God Bless America, I have a paper due and for some reason I just will not finish it. Why? I don't know.

The wedding was lovely and the Denver visit was fantastic. Pictures and details to follow.

And! Not one plane delay.Thank you Delta. You go girl.

This is the first time I have ever blogged from my blackberry. This is also the first time I have been to the Cincinatti Airport. Babe and I have a wee tradition of drinking at every airport. So, even though it's before noon, we can cross this one off the list.

I hope wherever you are you having a wonderful Thanksgiving. And a mimosa.

Monday Monday

Hey you guys. I'm having a hard time getting into work this AM. Just sat through a 2 hour meeting that made me a little sleepy. Need to focus - get it together man.

This weekend was very chill, with a happy hour Friday night and then on Saturday hung out in Brooklyn.

Checked out the Smoke Joint in Fort Greene for some pretty delicious barbque. Had a drink at Mullane's - they had $3.00 Miller Hight Life - the champagne of beers!

Went out at night to Frank's Lounge, which, as the website says, really might be the best club in Brooklyn. Hit up a freakin super cute bar called Cherry Tree on 4th Ave. Definitely worth a re-visit! Then, too Cattyshack to listen to a friend spin music and hang out.

Last night took a train up to Harlem which for the first time since I moved to NYC felt far. Had the best mole I've ever had. Thanks Joaquin! And learned a new salsa recipe. Also watched the Amazing Race - SO GOOD - and played WII. I want one.

Yesterday

Yesterday:
  • The NY Post said that women with bigger hips have smarter children. Thank you, Post.
  • I made Hamburger Stroganoff for dinner. Want the recipe? It's too easy for words: saute an onion and some garlic, brown up some ground beef, add in a can of 98% fat free cream of mushroom soup, simmer that for 15 minutes. While you're doing that, make some egg noodles (I use the no-yoke kind). Then mix into the hamburger some reduced fat sour cream and you are done. MMMM comfort food.
  • I heard from my old friend on MyspaceProfile. It was so good to hear from her - we hadn't talked to each other since High School. She and I went to Jr. High together, she's tall like me, and was the first person I ever knew who had sex. I mean who was my age. I also got drunkie with her on mimosas when we were in Jr. High. And high school, but in Jr. High she was the first person I ever really got drunkie with. Needless to say, her Ma was a super cool mom and I totally loved her. I found out yesterday that she died a few years back. So freakin sad, dude. Miss Sylvia - this ones for you!

Tuesday, November 13, 2007

Yesterday

Yesterday:
  • I totally electrocuted myself you guys! I was unplugging my charger and basically stuck my fingernail in the socket. EW! Not a good way to start a Monday.
  • I also worked all day long and got quite a bit done.
  • I also read at least 25 pages in my book the Karma of Brown Folk. What's up Indian people!!
  • Also re-fell in love with my DVR and composed a love letter, in my head, to that little silver box that sits near my TV.
  • I made chicken for dinner with a little bit of salad.
  • Opened a bottle of organic red wine (mmm, no sulfites!)
  • Went to Happy Hour.
  • Went to bed early.

28 Weeks & gross flesh eating zombie people Later

Last night, Babe, Nines, and I watched 28 Weeks Later. Seen it? Did you see the original? The original was really scary! Its about this gross virus (the Rage Virus!) that turns people into crazy man eating zombie freaks.

Ha! Its so good. So we watched the sequel last night. I must say - also, very good! Thumbs up random British dudes! Thumbs way up.

Reality TV

After months of complaining that there was nothing good on TV, TV is coming back with a vengeance.

With my recently purchased DVR, I get to enjoy so much more TV without having to rush home and turn it on.

Dudes, I've got to say this season of Survivor is hearkening back to the older seasons. Ever since they did the survivor Race war, they've had way more people of color on the show. Huge thumbs up. I like a little diversity. You all know that. So this season is great so far.

And then there's the Amazing Race. So far, so good! Just one night and the first team to get kicked off were so stinkin lame I was glad they got the boot.

Oh! And Kumar is guest starring on House right now! I have a not so secret crush on Kal Penn and I freakin love having Indian people on TV. Bring it!

Misc. Items & Park Slope Bar Crawl #3

Congratulations to the LA Dodgers on getting Joe Torre as a manager. You guys are Lucky.
***
Went out on Saturday night with Sashie and Scott and Babe and Mr. Pumpkin. We totally went to Prospect Park (first time, bitches!) and checked out some fall colors. Have you been to Prospect? It is as big (bigger than?) as Central Park, but when we were there, there weren't very many people. It was really lovely (pics to come!).

We then went to Biscuit BBQ for a snack and a drink. We shared a pulled pork plate with a couple of sides (MMM Macaroni & Cheese and Candied Yams), then a few biscuits. MMM Biscuits.

Drank a delicious beer, but now I can't remember what kind it was.

Refreshed, we headed out to do some window shopping on Fifth Avenue.

We were making our way down to the Stone Park Cafe, but lets not get ahead of ourselves. We stopped at multiple bars including The Gate, the one across the street from Commerce Bank, and a newish Scottish Bar, where Mr. Pumpkin joined us.

And maybe one more? They were all pretty divey, and we just had a beer at each, but man oh man did we have a good time.

Stone Park Cafe was absolutely delicious. We started with this warm spinach salad, butternut squash soup with little pieces of green apple on top, and shared a plate of Bone Marrow. You got it. Bone Marrow. MMM so salty.

For dinner, me and Sashie each got a Steak, Babe got the salmon, and Scottie got the Scallops.

The wine was flowing and the aperitifs sealed the deal.

Definitely recommended. The people who worked there were super nice, too, and even gave Mr. Pumpkin a drink, though he was totally surly and unreasonable by that point.
***
What a great place to end the night. But no, we are people of excess and not moderation.

So we went to Junior's to pick up a cheesecake, walked home on Dekalb, and stopped into Alibi for that fateful one last round. Who orders a glass of wine as her last round? Oh me, that's who.

Out of 10, I'd score the night a 50.

Monday, November 05, 2007

Totally succesful

Dude, these skulls were sick. I loved the way they ended up and thought it was just the coolest thing. If you want to make your own, here's where you order all the stuff.

Babe and I were so proud of our apartment, which allowed us to be able to host a party where people could mingle, didn't feel squashed, and got to enjoy our view. See how cute Ruben looks against the purple wall of our guest room?
Two worlds collided - Sasha and Amy met. Some say there are similarities. You be the judge.

Scottie made the altar and it totally represented.

Would you like to see more pictures?
Here's the whole set.

Monday Monday

Happy birthday on Saturday to my sister Sunny! You go girl!

This weekend was very, very, very chill. Slept an awful lot and sat around thinking. It was totally and 100% worth it. Been running around a lot. Nice not to do a thing.

Came home and watched two episodes of Survivor on DVR. This is one of the best seasons in ages, you guys! Shoooot!! I love it!

Can you believe Amazing Race starts next week again?

And my birthday week begins. Woohooo!!

Haiku Friday!

What, we're not flying
to California
this lovely weekend?

Just staying in town?
No - we're off to the country.
For some R and R.

Check out some changing

Pick out my pumpkin.

Tell me you love me

Has anyone been watching? I missed the last few but I think the show is absolutely amazing in its ability to be totally cringe-worthy.

Fires still raging in San Diego
, but my Ma has been allowed back in her home.

Work goes really well, totally busy and I like it!

Planning for my birthday party. It's going to be so fun.

Home!

Ma gets to go back home!

Thanks, peeps for your well wishes.

So many photos!

Virgin America - pretty nice way to fly. So not as much leg room as Jet Blue, but they have a pretty neat system for purchasing food and drinks, which you can do from your seat. Also, our flight was delayed on Sunday (surprise, surprise) and they gave us all free food & drinks. And you can IM peeps in different areas of the play, which is pretty freakin funny I think.
Me and Chachi preparing for a weekend in San Francisco!
Get a load of this fancy courtyard that was in the middle of our Good Nite Inn near the San Francisco Airport. It must have been nice when things had character and they put special touches into hotels, as opposed to now when everything looks the same.

Crazy map of the fires in Southern California! I think it might update automatically? I don't know.

The folks have been evacuated!

Where I was this weekend

Thanks Sashie!

I'm Back!

Thanks to Sashie and to that fella who commented a few weeks back using quotes from The Goonies.

"Don't you realize? The next time you see sky, it'll be over another town. The next time you take a test, it'll be in some other school. Our parents, they want the best of stuff for us. But right now, they got to do what's right for them. Because it's their time. Their time! Up there! Down here, it's our time. It's our time down here. That's all over the second we ride up Troy's bucket. "

More later.

(For those of you who know - I feel like I just got back from Burning Man. A vacation of perfect bliss and now I'm here. Here at my desk.)
