What a week!! Man! I am super stolked for Halloween!! Plus Sashie is in town so we are having some fun! Then my birthday is on Thursday! YAY! Candy + Birthdays! So exciting!

Weekend was super chill and very fun. Friday night I went to the Independent Press Awards or the Ippies as they are called. Great event and the ethnic press could use your support so read it!

Played Pass the Pigs for a long time on Friday night with a certain Dinosaur who already knew the rules.

Hung out on Sat and went to where else? Afghan Kabob House where we take everyone who comes to visit. Why? Because it is good and you can bring your own beer. Then we had a few rounds at the Kemia Bar, which we've talked about before.

Now it's back to work! Go on! Get crackin, daddy!

  • Ooh, look at that, this haunted house creepiness - the designers polled New Yorkers on what their biggest fears are. Scary. Let's go!

Holdin it down

I keep wanting to tell you about that concert on Thursday night at the Warsaw. Pennywise - they're a band I first saw at the Mayfair in Ventura when I was fifteen years old! Babe and I weren't together (obviously!) but they were one of his favorite bands, too! So, we've seen them at many venues, from the trucadero in San Francisco to Webster Hall in New York City. But this time it was at the Warsaw in Williamsburg.

There were only about 150 of us there - Pennywise was literally playing for ME! and Babe! Anyways, so we went right up to the front, to the guard rail. I mean, when I was a kid I would be up in that mosh pit. Me and Jenn B. used to fly around with our flannels tied around our waists and our tall doc martins on over our stripey tights. But, dude, I'm no spring chicken, and frankly, I'm usually scared of being in or near the pit. I prefer to stand off to the side and sip a nice cocktail. But since there were so few of us, we mosied right up to the front, and Babe stood guard behind me, arms around me, being repeatedly knocked in the back of the head and what not but still having a great time! I left the pit unscathed and totally had the best concert experience I've had in a long time! Thanks, Abe!

I haven't been that close to the front since Mary, Maura, maybe Crust?, and I went to see Violent Femmes at the Ventura Theatre. Mary Friedrich was a strong, strong woman and she had her big ole arms around Maura and protected her much in the way that Babe protected me! So this post is dedicated to Mary Friedrich, who died a couple of years ago, for no good reason. Here's to holding it down for Mary Friedrich!

Goodness Gracious!

I nearly forgot to post to you, my little blog. What on earth is this world coming to?

Last night I took out D-Money for her birthday and we of course went to the Bourgeois Pig, then home to Babe and LOST. Which was good. Good, good, good. I burned myself on the baking sheet but the sweet potato fries turned out deeelicious.

Anyways! D-Money had this great list of songs that were the top 100 songs of 1985. And we knew all the words to all of them. As the other people at the Bourgeious Pig already know. Haha. For your enjoyment, here's the top ten:
1. "Careless Whisper".....Wham!
2. "Say You, Say Me".....Lionel Richie
3. "Separate Lives".....Phil Collins & Marilyn Martin
4. "I Want To Know What Love Is".....Foreigner
5. "Money For Nothing".....Dire Straits
6. "We Are The World".....USA for Africa
7. "Broken Wings".....Mr. Mister
8. "Everybody Wants To Rule The World".....Tears for Fears
9. "The Power Of Love".....Huey Lewis & The News
10. "We Built This City".....Starship

Misc. Items

  • BFF's SIL is in labor! How excited BFF must be!
  • My project did not get "greenlighted" yesterday so I have to revise and represent. Not like "represent, bitches!" but like re- present. As in "Do-Over."
  • I keep forgetting to tell some Anonymous Commenters that there is a huge halloween store just opened on 6th Ave. and 16th Street that rivals the big one that used to be in the building that collapsed on 6th Ave where now there are luxury condos being built.
  • I went to a birthday dinner at Tenement Restaurant on Friday night. The food was delish and the Macaroni and Cheese was the best I've had in this City. Is that true? I think so.
  • I've been on the verge of deflation for some time now. I feel like occasionally people are sticking pins in my hypothetical balloon and trying to take out some of my helium. Giving me funny looks or long lectures or snide comments. Sigh. I guess this happens to everyone.
  • My birthday is coming up soon! So is my Mom's and my Sister's. Yay Scorpios!
  • Going to see Pennywise at the Warsaw this Thursday. Siiick.
  • Here's some photos of me and Babe and the Bride from Saturday night. So cute!

What are you going to be? I think this would be cute for me and Babe.

One of the funny things about living in NYC is that a lot of stuff happens here. So, yesterday when I heard a plane crashed into a building I knew that one of my familials would email or call to see if it was my building that was hit. Out of the hundreds of thousands of buildings in this City the chances of it being my building are really pretty slim. Specially cuz that building that was hit was about 60 stories high and in the upper east side and my building is six stories high and in Hell's Kitchen. Either way, though, in case you're wondering, my building was not hit by a plane yesterday.

But it's like that a lot. Here, there are so many of us (8 million, in fact) that the chances of something happening to little ole me are actually pretty slim. Knock on wood. It's a nice part of living in this City, I think.

On the other hand, I see a lot of stuff that I think people living in smaller more contained places don't see. I see a lot of gross and weird stuff. Like lots of stuff involving bodily fluids which I won't go into here. Because it's early.

So kind of a slow roller of a post there but just thinking.

I wanted to write to you about pirates b/c I've found that people (Americans?) are kind of obsessed with them. I mentioned this to Babe last night:

Me: Hey Babe! I'm thinking of writing about Pirates on my blog tomorrow. I think people love them.
Babe: Yeah, Pirates are cool! AARGH!!!

Honestly, I got nothing but a whole bunch of baseball, some good times, and a hard pilates class to discuss. Baseball - hoping for a Mets vs As world series. Judging by the way the As played yesterday, we're looking at a series that involves the Tigers. After the trouncing that the Tigers gave the Yanks, though, I'm not saying they don't deserve to go on to the series.

Good times - man I've been having some good times lately. Just working hard and getting my shit done. Nothing makes me happier. Tonight Lost is on, too. Stolked about that.

Pilates is still my favorite thing to do in my spare time and is making me a very, very strong woman. I just hope I don't get all big and muscle-y cuz Ew.

Free Hugs!

Misc. Monday

I had a wonderful weekend and arrive at work today very rested...Stupid Columbus, I'm not hip to this whole celebration. Nina, pinta, santa maria? Who cares. In Berkeley, we called this Indigenous Peoples day. I've also heard Genocide Day. Whatever you call it, today we're celebrating the conquest and subsequent murder of lots and lots of peeps. Put that in your pipe and smoke it...Jessicurl is staying with us, or was, this weekend. Happy Birthday, Jessicurl! We went out to SRO on Friday night, yet another Hell's Kitchen speakeasy. Cute place, for the gimmick. Drinks were expensive but for one drink after dinner, I'd recommend. The fact that there is no sign, only a green light illuminating your way and that you have to ring a doorbell to be let in tickles me...I watched a lot of Sports with a capital S this weekend. Like playoff baseball (Yankees, que paso?) and college football (go Bears, bitches!)...Took a nice long walk up the Hudson River to Riverside Park. Also looked for the Riverside Cafe Bar or whatever it is called while we were up there. I was looking for a "Bar" with a building and a roof, but actually it was about 15 plastic tables and a gorgeous view. It was "the last day they were open," too so it was fortuitous that we stopped in...Finally a nice meal at Babe and My favorite spot, Dinosaur BBQ for a cheap and delicious (HA!) dinner and then home to watch the Amazing Race. All told? Fabulous weekend.

Haiku Finally We're Here for a Weekend Friday

Oh, happiest day!
We made it to Friday, dears.
Who cares, you may ask?

Well, I do. Babe does.
I know my sister Ang does.
Most worker bees do.

Maybe out for drinks?
Or a fancy pants dinner?
Either way, enjoy!

Bill Maher

Last night (after LOST of course) I caught Bill Maher's Victory Begins at Home on HBO. Talk about hilarious. This is a must watch hour of stand up comedy/lecturing that every American must see. He's not just a Bush Basher, either. He has a different take on a lot of issues that I think has wide appeal. If you have a chance, check it out.

The season premiere of LOST was great, yes, because we were all dying to see it. Not much happened though - it was like a very long introduction to what will be a fantastic next few weeks.

Drank wine at the Bourgeois Pig last night. It's my new favorite bar. There. I said it.

this isnt my dog.

but i wish it was.

I'm back!

My head is stuffed full of wonderful and delicious images of San Francisco and the Bay Arear and all the beautiful people I got to see and talk to this weekend. Unfortunately I come back to a full day of work and school so will have to share pictures and stories with you this evening. In the meantime, head over to BFF's blog. I will do the same.
