Hors d'oeuvres

Best blog ever, right here peeps. It could be just me, I mean we all have our favorite blogs, don't we? But this one right here, Waiter Rant just floats my boat. This guy can really turn a phrase, man, and his stories are like little delicious passed hors d'ouevres at a cocktail party - bite size and surprisingly delicious.

Happy Birthday Babe

Today's Babe's birthday! He's 28 on the 28th. There's a special name for this phenomenon, do you have any idea what it is? I can't find it on the web.

In any case, three cheers for Babe! Hip! Hip! Hooray!

For any of you who don't know Babe, here are some other people's birthdays that fall on Nov 28 so this is not just a huge waste of your time:

Judd Nelson (You know, Bender from The Breakfast Club)
Anna Nicole Smith
Jon Stewart
Manolo Blahnik

Happy Happy Chachi!

M&M Balloon goes crazy, Attacks onlookers

Despite "experienced balloon handlers" the M&M balloon went totally ballistic during the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade. Minutes after this picture was taken the M&M balloon went careening into a street lamp causing injury to two onlookers, one of whom was in a wheelchair. Way to go M&M.

Stealing

I stole this joke from a random indie paper that I took from the Ding Dong Lounge (The paper is called New York Waste):

A man walks into a bar and orders a beer. As he sips it and sets it down, a monkey swings across the bar and urinates in the pint.
The man asks the barman, "Who owns the monkey?"
The barman replies, "The piano player."
The man walks over to the piano player and says, "Do you know your monkey just urinated in my beer?"
The piano player answers, "No, but if you hum it, I'll play it."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
G'night.

Highlights

Boston was so fun! Me and Babe walked the Freedom Trail:

It was awesome. There, we saw such sights as:

The oldest pub in America, The Bell in Hand, where we had a nice Bell In Hand ale. Deeeeelicious!
And:

The cemetery where such legendary greats as Sam Adams, John Hancock, and Mother Goose are buried.
We went that evening to catch some Jazz at Wally's Jazz which was siiick and not just because it was totally packed - the first packed place I saw in Boston, mind you - but also because the music was goood ole jazz music and the bartender made the best-drinks-ever.

Lest I forget, though, people, I also checked out the bar where everybody knows your name:

The next day, we met up with my good friend Mawk(Scroll waaaay down) who showed us around Harvard:

Makes you (or just me, whatever) remember why you went to college, I tell you what.
I'll be back with more photos of Boston, though, people. I still have to show you the only other Indian in Boston, por ejemplo.

Alien vs. Predator

Updates on Boston to follow.

Last night I saw a great show - Pennywise and Bad Religion at the Nokia theatre in Time Square. Neat venue - sponsored by Heineken, clearly, the bars were all green & they only served Heineken and Amstel. The theatre is totally subterranean which is a trip because you descend about two stories underground to get to the stage.

The first time I saw Pennywise was 13 years ago when I was a sophomore in high school. I saw them at the now long gone Mayfair theatre. Those were the days when I'd actually go in the pit. Now I'm so much happier sitting in the stands. The first time I saw Bad Religion they opened for Pearl Jam on the Vitalogy tour - in the Polo Fields in San Francisco. Eddie was "sick" and had to go home. Luckily Bad Religion was great.

So, who is the better band? Bad Religion has been together for 25 years and have really smart, serious lyrics. Pennywise has been together for 16 years and rocks so damn hard you think your head is going to fly off.

My money is on Pennywise - they just put on a better show and they rock so hard! Bad Religion is excellent too, but in this very mellow we're well into our 40s kinda way.

U2

Does Bono work for apple?
I'm not mad, I'm just asking.
Cuz it seems like he does.

I'm going to Boston for a couple of days. I'll miss you, children. And Haiku Friday. Maybe I'll be able to get one in there on Friday, but I'm not sure. I'm not really hip enough to blog from my cell phone or anything.

Top Fives

Sometimes it just takes a nice, round top five to make the blog day a good one. Here goes, and please add yours, but know that I won't hold you to them.

Top Five Scary Movies (or four)

  1. The Exorcist
  2. The Shining
  3. The Sixth Sense
  4. The Ring (EW!!)

Top Five Books - in no particular order

  • East of Eden
  • The Passion
  • 100 Years of Solitude
  • Song of Solomon

Tip your 40

Vine Deloria Jr., great Native American writer who wrote Custer Died for Your Sins died on Sunday. Here's the Time's article.

But, more importantly, here's a link to Amazon, where you can buy the book which, of course, features my Grampa, Mr. Antoine Waupochick, another great Indian hero.

Thanks for telling the world another side of the story, Mr. Deloria!

That the pics are hilarious.

La Fiesta Del Babe and Cod

The party on Friday night was a success! Me and Babe had a great time and so did all our pals. The cupcakes were damn good if I do say so myself. I took everyone's picture after they got a prize from the grab bag so have a series of hilarious pictures of people holding little tiny toys by their faces. I may show some of them to you. For now, here's an Alien to tide you over.

Global Warming

Six months smoke free today!

Hello coodence!
Your Quit Date is:Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at 10:15:00 PM
Time Smoke-Free: 183 days, 11 hours, 8 minutes and 30 seconds
Cigarettes NOT smoked: 2752
Lifetime Saved: 21 days
Money Saved: $966.00

I'm finally started to see the results of not smoking in the old pocketbook, meaning that I literally hold onto money longer. Before, anytime I had twenty dollars I would spend it on smokes. 2,752 cigarettes not smoked. So gross, as my lungs breathe a sigh of relief.

In other news, nearly every day in the past 3 weeks someone has brought up global warming. Could it be because on my birthday (last Wednesday) it was in the 70s? Or because it is mid-November and 65 degrees out this AM? Or that the Christmas tree (all 9 tons of it! come to NYC during the holiday season - so effing pretty!) is going up today in rockefeller center and there is nary a snowflake, winter coat, or scarf to be seen?

(Not complaining, just asking!)
And Happy Birthday, Ms. Amy! Welcome to your late 20s!

California

Anyone who knows me knows how much I love California. LOVE IT! Best-state-ever. I'm not sorry, however, to live on this side of the country when they have the governator running the show over there!

My MIL (mother-in-law for those of you not in the know) sent this funny video clip about why the Governator should no longer be in office.

Today is election day here in the five boroughs, and all over the good ole U S of A. So get out there and exercise your civic duty!

Weekend Report

Most people have coworkers to whom they report their weekends - me, not so much. My main coworker is on his honeymoon and the other two I don't see too much. So you get the details.

Anyways, it was a pretty chill weekend. Not much to report. Drank some delicious wine - the pinot noir from the Angeline winery in the Russian River is my favorite right now - with Jessicurl on Friday.

Saturday me and Babe cleaned our wonderfully complex little one bedroom then we met up with my sister and her Mike and the Baby Katherine. We went to Afghan Kebob House which is so good!

Sunday we walked all the way down to Fluevog in Nolita so I could get my birthday boots. Up close though and not on the internet they were not so much what I was looking for.

So we had a beer at Puck Fair across the street from the Puck Building. I've never been there before, but its a great place!

Was a great weekend, but clearly not very exciting, so I'm sorry if I just bored you.
Haha, I had fun.

Old Place

Lots of conversations about the old place versus the new place. We have no clear winner yet. But this pic is a good one. Shows the old place quite well I think. I don't have a similar photo of the new place yet, but once I have one, you'll be the first to see. This of course was the kitchen in our studio, the door to the bathroom.

Twenty - Eight

This is from one of the coolest grrls I used to kick it with at Cal. I'm sharing it with you cuz if you are also 28, then this is relevant to your life:

Happy Happy Birthday!!!!

Here is why 28 rocks:

- 28 is a perfect number (the sum of its divisors, excluding itself, is itself- 1+2+4+7+14. The next perfect number is 496).
- 28 is the sum of the first 5 prime numbers
- 28 is the atomic number of nickel. And who doesn't love the nickel? I mean, its worth less than the dime, but its all "fuck the dime. I could kick the dime's ass 'cause I am super buff."
- Its the number of constellations in Chinese astronomy.
- Its the number of teeth in a "normal" human
- Its the standard number of bones. Domino motherfucker!!!

Welcome to your late 20s Cod. :-)

Haiku Friday

Feliz Cumpleanos A Mi

Strange birthday so far. I spent the day in the basement of an old church in the Bronx learning how to use various City websites to mine for data. Happy Birthday Codfish! But, I'm home, and its a little early, so I can't complain.

Me and Babe are having a joint birthday party in the next few weeks, so I'm not really doing anything to celebrate. Babe has to work late. I should go shopping.

Besides, 28 is kind of a random birthday. Its closer to 30, yes. It sounds to me much older than 27 did. I like 7s. 8s, well they just sound damn old. Anyways, I won't wax philosophical here but I will say that it was another A+ year. 27 treated me well.

The picture is a pic of the cake Babe made for my niece's 2nd birthday. Thought it was too good to use only for that occasion.

Niagara Falls

Have you ever been, friendlys? It's really neat. The amount of water that flows over the falls is enough to fill 1 million bathtubs - every minute. This is a pic of me and Babe and Solanar inside the falls. Neat, right?

Halloween

I have so much to tell you. It's true. I owe you pictures from Niagara Falls and from the Boda. But, I can't let these things bog me down, people. I also have to talk to you about Halloween.

Last night, I partied down (See hangover post below. By the way, the gatorade was such a good call!) with a martini and a Slim Jim. It sounds like I'm telling you what I ate and drank, but no, I'm talking about two of my pals!! HAHA That's funny, right?

Also, Bob Ross of PBS fame (there were actually two Bob Ross's at the bar, but my friend's costume was the better one) was there, an escaped convict, a long island muscle man, an OB GYN, a scary monster, and a priest. I of course was a pretty, pretty princess. (Or Glinda the good witch, who's to say, really!)

The parade was crazy and the bar we were at was packed. Milady's is one of my favorite bars and certainly my favorite to spend my Halloweener.

My Hangover Cure

Toasted bagel and cream cheese + large coffee from JB + 2 motrin + 1,000 dixie cups full of water.

I hope this works.

(Otherwise, please kill me.)
Happy day after halloween.
